I recently purchased a whole load of Castle stuff ranging from many years ago to recent times... I can 100% state that the NEW shiny lego is nowhere near as awesome as the old 'not so shiny' lego. The older Lego holds each brick better than the new. A set could literally fall to bits compared to the older stuff. Sure, of course, it's not bad but I definitely noticed the difference (Then again it might be due to many parents complaining about separating lego parts withe their teeth).

Uncalled for.

Álso, as much as I dislike 3rd party knock-off crap, I equally dislike KREO. This just isn't a LEGO fansite, so there's your difference.

The main core of Lego production is still in Denmark, Hungary and Mexico. The minifigure line and things like those watches and pens are produced in China.

And yet no-one ever talks about how Lego ripped off another company to get the ball rolling. All's fair in love and plastic war.

In fact, Lego doesn't even come close to Eastern Asia. It's all done in Denmark, Hungary and Mexico, with an additional plant in the Czech Republic focusing on packaging and decorations alone.

And yes, it is surprising to hear this, but The Lego Group has been at the brink of bankruptcy at least once somewhere in the late 1990's. The move to extend the brand to other areas, acquiring licenses of multimedia properties plus bring fans on board the company has brought the company back.

Well so I googled and I must have mistaken.

People were complaining about the overall poorer quality of bricks (Particularly the Monster fighters), and it probably had nothing to do with factory shift, but just sloppy QC due too budget cuts.

Although, it appears there are starting a plant in china from 2014...

Isn't transferring to China a form of budget cuts?

I collect Transformers, Marvel Universe and Lego.

If I hear about a Transformer or Marvel figure I like, I buy it on eBay or BBTS. If I hear about a Lego set that I'm interested in I go to a shop and buy it. Lego seemed to have grasped the idea that by making sure product is available that they will sell more.

There is beef in the toy community, it seems.

This was an article comparing Hasbro and LEGO brands, in terms of their reach and following, and more categories: http://www.eventmagazine.co.uk/brand-sl ... le/1440509

Their verdict? LEGO does a bit better:

Lego has a larger social following, and has partnered with well known brands to enhance the reach of its experiential endeavours. The events are all inclusive, appealing to children and adults alike, and events such as Bricklive feature live elements to make the experience more exciting for guests. The experiences are wide ranging, and encompass event types such as interactive gaming, exhibitions and roadshows.

But a LEGO fan site actually had more to add to the comparison, and I share their point almost entirely:

The articles misses the clearest reason that LEGO is recognised as a stronger brand than Hasbro – that consumers enter a toy shop looking for a LEGO product, whereas they look for a Nerf or Transformers product rather than a Hasbro product. There is no Hasbro aisle, but there is a LEGO aisle, demonstrating the long standing affection that consumers have for the largest construction toy manufacturer.

That's actually some really old info form 2013. Currently the order is 1. Lego, 2. Mattel, and 3. Hasbro. However, it's hard to find consistent and current information, partly because nobody seems to be able to decide if the Hasbro and Lego movie studios count or not when ranking toy companies leading to a lot of inconsistencies.
