Recently, you may have noticed all those rubber parts on the latest TFs. Spikes, nosecones of planes are rubburrised. Parts detach if too much pressure is applied. There's reasons for that. SAFETY. TF toys are basically that. Toys. Made for children. You don't want your toys to be hazzardous, especially againstr the little ones. For all those (kinda recent) security measures to be, it mean that there must be someTF toys out there that actually hurt people or the risk is present.

Do you know some dangerous TF toys? Have you been actually hurt by one? Share your story here!

Lemme share 3 dangerous TF toys.

Recently, I finally got my hands on Cybertron Scourge! This is one cool figure but man... THOSE SPIKES! He got very long and sharp spikes all over the place. That are also made out of HARD plastics and are kinda sharp. Scourge may have poked many eyes out.

Image

Nest is MP-01, the original Masterpiece Optimus Prime. He's a big TF made almost entirely out of diecast metal. He's beeffy and pretty heavy. Call me a chicken but if he ever fall off a shelf onto someone head, serious damage may occur.

Image

Finally, there is one that actually managed to hurt me for real. ROTF Scout Rollbar. This one have some sort of auto-morph gimming that is like a MOUSETRAP! Seriously, the first time I transformed him, I manage to pinch myself a finger in that deadly mechanism. It took a good minute of careful and painful prying to get my finger out of that spring-loaded death trap.

Image

Got anything deadlier than those 3 I just mentionned?

I dont collect G1, which seems to be where all these responses are coming from. The only TF that actually hurt me so far is MP 05 Megatron. Both the acts of unplugging his arms when transforming him into a gun and pulling up his abdominal region when transforming him into a robot have really hurt my palms and fingers. The force required is unlike anything I ever witnessed.

The rubber nosecones thing has been around since G1.

Anybody with small missiles and springs that can actually fire them with force, particularly if said missiles are pointy. They can cause injury, the force means that if fired into someone's throat then there's a sharp jab... plus they might be juuust the right size to wedge in and choke someone that way, or else be too small to easily reach in and pull out. This also applies to Megatron's bullets. And even a neutered U.S. Megatron can be mistaken for a real firearm.

G1 Optimus Prime's smokestacks can stab somebody in the foot if trod on. Like, actually stab through the sole of the foot.

Oh man, I remember whacking my knuckles with Jetfire's landing gear a lot as a child! Curiously, I don't seem to have this trouble with my re-issue Bandai VF-1S. Either they made the spring less tight (which I doubt, as they still seem quite forceful) or I just have a higher pain tolerance as an adult.

fenrir72 wrote:30th RB and Jetfire (functional missiles!) :APPLAUSE:

How are these dangerous? Presumably, the missiles are of sufficient length to meet US child safety laws. Having gotten both of these recently, I will say that they are on hair triggers, and the only danger is loosing them if you're not careful! But if you think any functional missiles are inherently dangerous, then I should think you would have a list a lot longer than just two examples.

I hardly think that wounds as a result of an after market modification count as a toy that is, in and of itself, dangerous.

Valandar wrote:I'd think G1 Megatron, it's the only toy that got a kid shot for carrying it. :D

This is what I was planning to contribute if no one else had mentioned it. Any Trannsformers toy could be dangerous or cause harm if intentionally misused. But G1 Megatron or Masterpiece Megatron are the only toys that could get you shot for carrying it around outside.

Having removed the orange cap the importer installed, I definitely don't go outside with my MP Megs! Instead, I just don a tuxedo and pose rakishly with him!

Yah! RBs missiles more or less has the sam e ouch power as G1 Soundwave's harpoons. In my case, it just automatically launched at my face. Good thing I'm wearing glasses too. Btw, I enjoyed it........a nostalgia from the ole G1 days when the Japanese versions can really "hurt" you.

Eh, I just don't see, I suppose, how "ouch power" translates to, as this thread is so eloquently titled, "The most DANGEROUS TF toys ever."

The "ouch power" of a missile, assuming it isn't smaller than US toy safety laws mandate and it isn't deliberately aimed right down someone's throat, just strikes me as an annoyance. Yes, not awesome, but hardly what I'd call dangerous.

The self same safety standard also ruined the initial USA G1 re-issue Seekers. The G1 re-issue Hasbro boxes initially had an indicia of "adult" toy collectible but had a decal pasted over them. The remolded the nullrays (kind of acceptible despite beng oversized) but what ruined the look was the "missiles" The extended shafts really ruined the look.

It would have been better if Hasbro back then just removed the springs in the launchers if they were afraid it would puncture an eye intead of remolding the missiles that turned them ugly.

Not to mention those stacks on Optimus. I mean, who in their right mind would break it to swallow? :BANG_HEAD:

Oh, I will fully agree that modern safety standards have ruined the aesthetics of some of the reissued toys. While I managed to get an import for my reissue G1 Optimus Prime, when it came to both Pepsi Prime and my original mold Masterpiece Optimus Prime, I ended up with domestic versions with shortened stacks. Thank the maker for reproduction full-length stacks! Also, I made sure I ended up with a Godbomber rather then Apex Bomber, as Apex Bomber's elongated missile looks ridiculous!

But the toys you originally mentioned in regards to having shooty missiles, Generations Roadbuster and Generations Jetfre, do have long missiles, but were designed with them in the first place rather then having it be a modification for a reissue years later. So the long missiles don't ruin the looks of the figure.

No no. Not against them (the modern RB) missiles. I welcome them as you can see in my posts (the applause icon I use). In fact, I'm jabbing at the "safety standards" issue that come into play. The missiles' spring is by no means different from the Japanese releases. If Tomy/Hasbro lengthened them, fine and aethetically, not forced butt ugly like the previous examples I mentioned. If the only concern would be some 1di0t kid swallowing the item or shooting it up their nose, I really can't find the logic of trying to sue Hasbro/Tomy not unless proper warning/age appropriate labels be applied.Mark them 15 years up but then again, the toy market in the USA and the entire Western World is different from Japan's.

Please correct me if I'mm wrong but all this "safety" issues started in the USA with the Boba Fett figure right? Why onlyissues like that in the USA? Are American kids more lower in theIQ totem pole that Japanese kids?

A bit back to Ginrai/PM Optimus Prime mold. It is weird in this case that the USA version of the cab had longer smokes stacks compared to the Japanese which had a die-cast body but shorter stacks. I mean...........what the?

Nope. Boba Fett got neutered before official release with only a few very rare missile launching figures ever having been found.

The real culprit was a Battlestar Galactica toy (a Viper, I think) that some idiot kid shot directly into his mouth (on purpose) and as a result he choked to death.

Someone keeps mentioning G1 Soundwave's missiles being strong, but those didn't fire at all (in America anyway) just like most G1 (American) toys. (EDIT, sorry, I see in an earlier post that the Japan version was specified, somehow I missed that)

As for the ones that produced sparks, those were completely safe. I had that 2 headed dragon one and you couldn't even feel the sparks if you stuck your hand right in them, let lone get burned or injured by them. I had a similar spark producing toy gun a few years before, and same thing, looked a lot more impressive than it really was. Of course those things wore out pretty fast, I think I took back the Transformer when it stopped sparking within the return period.

Anyway, I'd imagine any of the ones with batteries could potentially be dangerous, if a battery should happen to explode inside. In reality, I'd be shocked if they'd ever damaged much more than the toy itself.
