Overall, I thought it was fun action movie. As an adult, I feel like it should've been something like Blackhawk Down. But the kid in me loved it since it just felt like the cartoon. Really enjoyed it.

And this video points out Larry Hama's cameo, which I completely missed.

funny that you mention that movie, b/c my friend who worked on Joe told me that they used a scene from Blackhawk Down. In the beginning of the Rex & Duke in East Africa flashback, there's a shot of a dozen or so blackhawks going over the city -that's it. Should be in the credits.

Shadowman -- and you are cool with the atrocious mouths on SE and Prime?? Might as well put Groucho glasses on Megatron --that'll make it really accurate.

the Hama cameo was awesome. Missed it - never really knew what he looked like

What is the title of the song that plays at the end credits. The one that's kinda rap kinda techno? For some reason it sounded good. I wanted to listen to it again, but I can't find the song list for the movie.

Yep. Prime's mouth made him more expressive and actually looked pretty good. And while I haven't seen GI Joe yet, as long as Snake Eyes doesn't use his mouth for anything more than eating, I'm fine.

"Boom Boom Pow" by The Black Eyed Peas. It's a remixed version, but it's unclear which version that is.

The one I want is "Bang A Gong (Get It On)", played during the training sequence in the Pit. It's a remix, and I'm not sure of the artist. I don't think it was T. Rex, either.

I agree, there was no reason for Snake Eyes to have a mouth on his suit. If anything, that tells us that eats and drinks in the suit, which would lead one to assume that he rarely, if ever, removes the outfit. How disgusting is that? It's one thing to take a vow of silence, it's another to stew in your own juices for God knows how long.

Yuck.

...I feel bad for Ray Park. Can you imagine running around, doing stunts, etc in that get up all day long, and in California no less? It must've stunk, for sure, and it must've been a pain to remove.

Regarding the mouth on Snake Eyes' mask...I thought it was a nod to the version two action figure, which the costume is mainly inspired by. I have that figure in my collection and right beneath the armoured visor is a sculpted mouth. Does it make sense in a practical fashion? No. But it is something for the fans to get a kick out of when they spot it.

As far as the movie, I really enjoyed it. Like Transformers, I went to G.I. Joe with an expectation of a mediocre experience for me. I came out with a smile. It is no piece of master cinema by any stretch of the imagination but it isn't meant to be. The entire movie was a project wrapped around the aim of pushing the nostalgia buttons that most people in their late 20s and 30s have as those are the ones who grew up with the "G1" of G.I. Joe. Much like Transformers, this movie is a fun popcorn flick.

The standout character for me was Zartan. In typical fashion, he is one of those characters who get little screen time but the actor makes the most of the time they have. Arnold Vosloo is a great choice for this role and how the movie sets up the sequel, I can't wait for Vosloo's return!

Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes made me giddy, my childhood memories of the two rival ninjas all coming back.

Quaid brought some weight to the movie, though he did bring cheese as well but not overwhelmingly so. I really like him as General Hawk. It's too bad he isn't younger because I would like to see him take on the role of a proper Duke for G.I. Joe.

Tatum as Duke...I just don't get. Tatum always comes off in the movies I've seen him in as essentially the love child of an emo and a jock. Don't get me wrong, I like darker attitudes in movies but Tatum's not capable of taking things to the level of brooding of someone like Christian Bale. It may be due to the script but I found Tatum to be on autopilot as Duke.

Sienna Miller as the Baroness...she is so beautiful with dark hair. And those glasses. Good lord, she is hot. I won't lie, I was enraptured and whatever merits she has an actress in the movie takes a back seat to her attractiveness. I apologize to any women reading this but dark haired women with glasses do it for me.

Wayans as Ripcord was good. I expected to be neutral at best towards his performance in the movie but I found it to be a good use of his humourous talent. It seems to be very tempting for directors to use any of the Wayans brothers as silly comedy fodder but I found that Ripcord was a good part of the comedy in the movie.

Eccleston as Destro was lukewarm for me. I haven't seen his other work but he seems to really lay it on thick with the Scottish accent. It felt like much of his effort in his scenes was just delivery of dialogue as Scottish as he could without stepping over the line into the realm of parody.

Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander...ehhh. No. No, thank you. It's just that he doesn't have the physical presence nor the performance ability to make me invest in the character. He's actually a great actor but for how the character is scripted, it's like mixing oil and water. His talents are simply wasted on the character. I think that he would have been much better in other roles such as, say, Tomax and Xamot. I could envision him doing an outstanding job as the the cunning and deadly twins.

Nichols as Scarlett was okay. Nothing outstanding there. She brought the physical presence that Miller did as the Baroness but without the screen presence and charisma. Also she didn't wear glasses and dye her hair black.

Saïd Taghmaoui as Breaker was a pleasant surprise. Like Vosloo, he didn't have a lot of time but he did a lot with it. I love the part where he's talking about finding a needle in a coal mine.

Breaker: "Like finding a needle in a coal mine."
Ripcord: "Haystack."
Breaker: "Oh sorry, like finding a haystack in a coal mine."

I mean, that kind of goofy, cheesy humour can so easily be messed up but Taghmaoui's performance just brings it home. Great stuff. I hope to see more of Breaker in the sequel.

Overall, as I mentioned earlier, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie just like the first Transformers live action film. Both are certainly full of faults but as a fan of the fiction and history of the toyline, the G.I. Joe movie hit the right notes for me.

The only other movie I've seen him in is the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds with Nic Cage and Angelina Jolie. He had the same accent, and I actually bought him as a menacing British asshole. Here, I wasn't entirely convinced he was *the* bad guy, and he wasn't Cobra Commander was pulling the strings.

It looked like it was molded into his mask, not like it would open, especially since it never moved. Also, isn't all of that something that was already assumed about Snake-Eyes?

I figure it probably had a cooling system, running cold water through the suit, like they did with the Wookie suits in Star Wars Episode III. The Snake Eyes suit seemed a lot more muscular than Ray Park really is so it's probably a safe bet.

EDIT: Also I'm going to be the weirdo and say I thought Scarlett was hotter than the Baroness. Mostly because I prefer redheads.

Just saw the film today, Well I will say it did kinda win me over because I have not paid attention to G.I. Joe for ages and I really wanted to see this movie that badly. It lived up the expectation that it wanted to, wernt many problems since it was all explosions & big fights.

One minor thing that did kinda put me off was Baroness managing to be good...yeah, I wasnt really that pleased about that. Aside from that though I thought the cast was decently assembled as well as Chris Eccelston as Destro & Joseph Levitt as Cobra Commander, Levitt especially I think he slid into CC very nicely.

I now might start watching G.I. Joe again because that movie managed to win me back onto the series as well as maybe getting a few Rise of Cobra Figures. All I can hope for now is 2 more films so they can introduce the Dreadnocks, Flint, Sgt Slaughter etc.

[Annoying that 2/3 insecticons names got changed for the upcoming TRU G1 re-issue)

But doesn't Hasbro posses the name again? After all, Roadblock's been released in the G.I. Joe 25th Anniversery line, and there was a Transformer named Roadblock in Energon a mere 5 years ago.

I did a quick Wiki search and I guess Heavy Duty's been pretty prominent since Valor vs. Venom and Sigma Six. In Sigma Six, he's Roadblock's cousin. I guess Roadblock didn't appear in Sigma Six(only saw part of an ep., wasn't impressed and Scarlet looked like a teenager), so maybe they put him in there cause kids might recognize him more. Still, I wish it had been Roadblock.

Also, about Snake Eyes V2, I never had that figure, so I didn't know it had a molded mouth. While I understand the homage and intention now, I still think it looks kinda dumb. As for the relation to Prime with a mouth, well he had a battle mask to cover the mouth up, and in Marvel G1 Prime was shown to possess a mouth underneath his faceplate.

as far as the Roadblock stuff, i was only going off of what my hardcore GI Joe fan friend (has every US comic) was saying. Hasbro's let many big names lapse though unfortunately.

As far as SE V2 --i've never seen that figure really. Out of all the SE to pick, they pick the one with a molded mouth. Stupid. No mouth -ninja style - that's all they had to do.

I saw this movie on my birthday; the 16th and I gotta say it truely sucked. Too unrealistic, I realize I've been defending a movie based on giant robots, but this movie just shot for outrageous and down right stupid. A huge underwater base? common! Also a quick plothole question, if the nanotech stuff was so important and so dangerous in the worng hands why did they have so little security around it? 5 trucks and 2 helecopters aren't enough, where are the raptors? And additional backup? Action was subpar, sure Sienna and that red head were hot but they didn't have enought cleavage in the world to save this one.

You do know this is GI Joe, right? Underwater bases are like Starbucks, and 'realism' is a language no one speaks.

First off, that Cobra jet made what they had look a lot weaker. Second, they said that they were supposed to meet with a second team, so that wasn't all the back up they were supposed to have.

Action was subpar, sure Sienna and that red head were hot but they didn't have enought cleavage in the world to save this one.

you're thinkin about it waaaay too hard man. No way u can enjoy the movie with that mindset. It's an action movie based off a cartoon, comic and toys. Didn't know u were expecting Blackhawk Down, Bourne Identity realism. Even with the great Bond flicks u have to suspend your disbelief just a little bit! :-B

THANK YOU.

Overthinking TROC or ROTF? FAIL.

If it had been Black Hawk Down, played by G.I. Joe, there would've been an outcry.

If it had been Bourne Identity realism, it would've sucked the fun out of the entire experience for me. (Seriously, the Bourne series took the fun of going to the cinemas, took it out back in a darkened alley, and beat it to death, took another turn, and then handed it back to me beaten and broken.)

From the opening credits to the end of the films of the Bourne series, I was so dismayed by the lack of anything human in the film that I just couldn't find the energy to muster a smile during the wickedly cool fight sequences. No, not even they could save me from it's funsucking properties. A joy vampire, all happiness and fun killed.

And what little humanity was there (basically his love interest), she gets offed.

Yay. Give me an upper, before watching this downer.

G.I. Joe had none of that. Thank God. In fact, Channing Tatum turned the role down, initially because he thought it glorified war. After starring in Stop-Loss, he can't stand the thought of war. Once he saw that his SL co-star (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) was going to be Cobra Commander and was finally coaxed into reading the script...he realized it was an unrealistic, silly, comic book themed, action/adventurer flick.

And that's exactly what it was. It had enough darkness, enough seriousness, just enough...to sell it. The rest of it was pure popcorn spectacle and it was FUN.

I had a smile from beginning to end. Like a kid again.

If you want dark, tough as nails, bad-ass, go watch Resolute. If you want a good time, comic booky feel, bad-ass, with a regression back to the age of 9 for a little under 2 hours, then this is the movie you want to see.

Looks like most of us want to be a kid again for a couple of hours and have a good time.

We'd save you a seat. You'd just need to remove the stick first.
