neither Soundwave nor ANY of us fans DESERVED JACK SQUAT!
That is the single most arrogant, self serving load of crap yet. This movie, this franchise, none of this BELONGS to any of us.
This was Bay's Movie from the start and we all knew that. Getting Cullen wasn't something he HAD to do for us. Just because there was a lot of us making noise doesn't mean he HAD to cave and to be honest, I'm surprised he did. Would I have boycotted the movie if he hadn't? NO! I understood from the beginning that this was not a 25 year old animated show.
Getting Welker this time around was not something he had to do either. He didn't owe Welker, he damn sure didn't owe us and he didn't owe it to Hasbro. In fact, I wish he hadn't done it because all it's done is bring out the absolute WORST in the whole damn fandom! Who do you folks think you are thinking you are OWED anything because the hardcore fans aren't the ones responsible for the bulk of the box office sales and we certainly aren't the ones who are supporting Hasbro. The only thing the Hardcore fans did for this movie occured on the opening night showings. Everything after that was majority general public, i.e. parents and children. The fans just happened to be the mouthiest ones during all the after-opening-day interviews so that's who the press zeroed in on. All hype and no substance just like this thread.

Would some Mod please Lock this?? This ones DONE!

If Bay doesn't owe the fans anything, then why even make a movie based on Transformers? The whole point is to follow the previous, or at least the heart/main points, of the previous material. He does owe fans stuff, because they enjoy the material he chose to work with. When you use something other people think is important, you have to take into account that other people think its important. Its common courtesy. If he wanted to make his own thing, I mean COMPLETELY his own thing, why even name it Transformers? The number of nods to previous series can be counted on my hands: names, semi-truck, starscream is a jet, transform, Spike, from cybertron. That covers most of it.

You want a reboot where Unicron sucks up the planet while robots fight at random then the matrix appears at the end? That's what Bays first two movies were, my friend. A bunch of mindless fighting with a magic wrap up. BTW I showed the original to my 12 year old cousin. He liked it better, I kid you not, in his own words, because "I knew what was going on". But I'll guess you say the new ones were written for smarter people (guffaw!)

Hopefully Transformers will be like Batman and someone will pick it up and make it right after someone else tried to make it "xtreme"

Also late to the party, but....

Keeping in mind that I'm older than most of you, so my hearing has had many more years to be damaged by mosh pits/jet engines/howitzers and the like, but I really liked Welker w/o the vocoder. I think for geezers like me, it WOULD have been difficult to understand a heavily modulated voice in an already over-the-top Imax sound system. Considering his form changed so much, it gave me *something* I could latch onto in a massive redesign and say 'ah, Soundwave, yes!'

I base this on the fact that I had a really hard time understanding Starscream in the first Bay movie because they did...*whatever* to his voice to make it sound more roboty. I didn't mind him not sounding like Latta, but I didn't really hear him all that clearly. And considering he only had like 2 lines....! Thus I think there *is* some validity in the 'no vocoder b/c it's hard to understand' theme. To me, they proved that point in 2007.

Me, I was unhappy with the change in Starscream's voice. Yes, it was closer to G1, but it had no continuity with the first one.

HK, Starscream can whisper sweet nothings into my ear any time.... rowr!

yeah, I agree, the change in Starscream's voice was so drastic I thought it was another person. Did the same person voice both SSs??

Ok heres my (somehat late) opinion,
When I first heard Soundwave speak I was a little disappointed but got over it pretty quick as I felt the voice was pretty damn cool, very cold and calculating. Definatly suited the movie. I loved G1 and would defo class myself as a 'G1 fan boy' but at the end of the day the 2 movies had enough 'nods' to G1 to keep me happy.

The only other 'nod' I would have added would have been if he had said "Ravage, operation recovery" or something along those lines when releasing Ravage in space.
"he is way stronger and totally insane!

I thought it was another person, too! Glad I'm not the only one.

It's listed on IMDB as Charlie Adler for both films. Which is *weird,* isn't it?

I do have a slight preference for the less Geewunderful voice, but not as vocoded as the first movie. I'm hoping for a happy medium for the third. (I'm also hoping Starscream doesn't *die* in the third).

HK, I actually had a video loop for a while that ran on startup on my work computer of Starscream's blink.

thx HK. One of the only ways SS may die in the next movie is if Megatron becomes Galvatron & they decide to do a repeat of the g1 movie. Probably no coronation with constructicon bugles though. :)
