Keep in mind too, alot of old fans of Simpsons HATE it now.

...To say nothing of those who've moved over to Family Guy and South Park.

It's too... novelty... this Simpsons movie.
I highly doubt it'll do incredible.

I think this movie should be supported by fans and people as they did to Star Wars a New Hope in the late 70s..

I loved this movie, though not entirely huge on Plott, it was still a nice ride and a great show. It was like Star Wars "A new Hope" in that it was non stop on the road action, almost all the way through it. the begbiniong set up the precadent, and unlike Star Wars, didn't need a prequel to tell the story spralled out over 3 Movies..like Episode 1,2, and 3.

I think this movie franchise has the stuff to make a profitable series..

I havent watched an episode of the simpsons in nearly 5 years and think the movie is probably 4 years too late.

So far Transformers is at 246 million worldwide, I wish I could make that much money in 3 weeks and still be called a dissapointment by people that are would be critics because to me that seems pretty successful seeing as the bulk of that (150 mill.) is within 5-6 days with much of europe not getting it for another 2 weeks or so. To me this looks like something thats going to be around for a while even with wizards lurking. People said that John Mcclaine was going to steal some of Optimus' thunder. I sure as hell didnt see that happen.

Yeah, because who could have possibly thought a film pandering to the very lowest common denominator would be profitable?

Let me make something crystal clear....

THIS IS A MOVIE BASED ON A SHOW THAT CAME FROM A TOY LINE IN THE 80'S. IT'S ABOUT GIANT ROBOTS THAT TURN INTO CARS!!!!

Either this movie was going to take itself way too seriously for anyone but the die hard Transformer fans to enjoy, or it was going to roll along with the absurdity of the concept and make it enjoyable for everyone. Seriously, what the hell are you thinking? Movies need to make money, and if they don't then it's a waste of time and money no matter how wonderful the end product may be. Not to mention that the entire FOUNDATION of Transformers was fluff to begin with.

I dont see why it would. I mean I was not a hater, nor was I a lover of the overall movie, but since when does the box office turnout, in this case North American box office turnout, mean it was a good movie? Just look at Wild Hogs. What it makes and what people think of it afterwards or for some even before, its different sides of the coin.

I havent really seen people saying that just because the box office is good that means the movie is good. Take a look around here a little bit many people have gripes, some of us don't. The overall feeling is that it was good for what it was meant to be A "Summer action movie". The "haters" were talking about how much this movie is going to bomb and not even make its budget back. Thats what
Maju Garzett wrote:Makes all the pre-movie haters feel stupid, doesn't it?
is reffering too.

It all means 1 thing. More exposure for tf's and inturn more toylines and a good shot at many more movies to come.

I dunno... when's it come out?
So far, I haven't seen the massive media blitz of advertising like Transformers were given.

And it's quickly missing the "summer movie" boat made of gold.

It's due out the end of the month and I think the reason they Don't have a media blitz is because they don't need it.

Evryone knows about The Simpsons.

Transformers on the otherhand, even though they have had some varing but continuos series, has been out of the mainstreem spotlight for years.

The Transformers movie, with unorthodox designs and lack of spotlight realy needed every promotion that it has gotten. I believe without all the banners and TV spots, this movie would already be out on DVD.

The Simpsons movie probably won't bring in the people they're expecting. It's gone downhill for a long time and they've lost more fans than they care to count. Sure, it's still a widely watched show, but unlike Transformers it's not going to bring in the action crowd. I think the last estimates had The Simpsons being watched by 30 million people. This Transformers movie has been watched by over 200 million so far. Big difference.

246 million divided by say $7 average ticket = 35,142,857

He was off, but by my math which could be off because I don't know the exact average ticket price.

...Oh wait. I misread that. 22 million. It was in a newspaper I picked up today. Transformers is also doing better in the foreign markets than I'd expect The Simpsons movie to do. I guess the gap isn't nearly as big as I thought it might be.

It isn't based upon a cartoon about a bunch of teens, their inept parents, a top-secret government MIB organization, and a a bunch of people who can do magic by with their magical hacking skills, either. Yes, it was based on a silly children's cartoon with transparent social caricature characters but that doesn't mean there has to be 2 hours of puerile humor. It IS possible to be tongue-in-cheek, self-referential, and NOT resort to "this human boy wants to mate with the girl (cue Sam trying and failing to emote embaressment) hur hur hur hur" schtick.

The Brady Bunch movies were funnier than this tripe. Hell, even the Mission Impossible films (as much as I dislike them) had funnier jokes.

I'm sorry, but you are apparently takingn the concept of GIANT TRANSFORMING ROBOTS too seriously.

IT'S SERIOUS BUSINESS GUYS!!!! WE NEED SERIOUS JOKES IN HERE!! No cheese! That is most certainly NOT what Transformers, an 80's toy line that made TV shows and movies just to sell said toys is all about!!!

What's next? You're going to tell us that laughing at any jokes in this movie makes us Communists? Wouldn't surprise me, since you apparently think that you're precious childhood memories are beyond reproach. Go ahead and watch the original cartoons right now and keep telling yourself how much better those are.

Guess what: the original cartoon wasn't a PG-13 multimillion dollar film and it was meant to be funny TO 8 YEAR OLDS so that they'd but more toys. You're going to try and defend the endless bad jokes in this (what Bay has so proudly declared to be more than a silly toy commercial) based on THAT? Where did I say the cartoons are any better? They were great when I was in elementary school but the last time I tried watching them with my nephew I laughed because of how stupid it was, not because of the jokes. And I LIKE good slapstick and irreverent humor. There's no such thing as a serious joke, but there is a such thing as WITTY humor (as opposed to the witless variety).

As I said, it panders to the lowest common denominator. It is to cinema what Carlos Mencia is to stand-up comedy.

If this movie is based on some hybrid of an American Pie 2 (the one that retreads the same tired schtick) and Scooby Doo 2 named Transformers that I've never heard of, then yeah.

Wow, you know, randomly putting movie titles together that have NOTHING to do with what you are attempting to compare makes a terrible comparison. American Pie 2 and Scooby Doo really don't have anything to do with Transformers, unless they're action movies. The largest complaint for Scooby Doo 2 is how horrible the CG Scooby Doo looked in comparison to the rest of the movie, and I assume there's more because I never cared to see it. I guess for the next movie, you can ask Michael Bay to have people dress up in suits and beat on each other. Not to mention the fact that NEITHER OF THOSE MOVIES ARE ACTION MOVIES. And you keep mentioning 'retread'. How many other transforming robot movies do you know of? Because I think we'd all like to see those too.

I'd compare the comedy in Transformers to Dane Cook's humour. Juvenile, over the top, cheesy, but it sometimes works and is funny in spite of itself.

Try to keep up. I'm not referring to the movie itself as a retread (though apart from the invading aliens being transforming robots everything else about the plot is 'borrowed' from some/numerous other film/films), I'm referring to the humor. American Pie 2 and Scooby Doo 2 were comedies. Tired comedies with tired jokes, in Scooby Doo's case, jokes that cgi characters didn't make any funnier.

There's like 70-80 minutes of action in Transformers. The rest is crap attempts as humor, and it's over 2 hours long.

I do hope Transformers does not fall to the wayside for The Simpsons. So far it has been a bigger power house than I think anyone expected, and I'd live nothing more than to see it run into the holiday season like Spider-Man 1 did. But I guess time will tell on this one.

"It's highly technological. Probably Japanese. Because the Japanese are one of the world's leading exporters of technology. See what I did there? Hur hur hur hur hur. Ironhide has a cow's head. So he's probably from the United States, because they're one of the world's leading exporters of beef. Hur hur hur hur."

Look, he said masturbation. That's a funny word. Hur hur hur. Ladiesmanwhatever is a funny screenname, hurhurhur. Oh look, he's peeing on them. Hur hur hur. Oh that Frenzy, he's so funny with his crazy little frenetic behavior, hur hur hur. Wow, he needs them to hide, but they can't, because they're so large, and they're not familiar with Earth, so they think that parking on the lawn is a good disguise, hur hur hur. That chihuahua thinks its tough, hur hur hur. Hey, he said "bitches" and is throwing out gang-signs because he learned to be black from the magical internet. That's funny! Oh, he died. ::Crying or Very sad::.

The Brady Bunch movies were funnier than this tripe. Hell, even the Mission Impossible films (as much as I dislike them) had funnier jokes.

Exactly.
All that time, that could have gone to brilliant things like character developement and such... wasted on throw-away TRASH that's been done to death.

The only thing missing was the CGI artists showing off how "special" their effects were by having a robot do something INSANELY CLEVER (that's been done by more movies / shows than I can count)... pretending to be Elvis Presley.

It's tired junk.
It's not new, clever or witty.
And there's just way too much of these ancient cliche's used.

It's like watching an hour and a half of commercials and counting every time a "stupid husband vs. sly wife" stereotype shows up.

That's not sticking to the source material.
For all it's problems, and depending on the episode, I never felt like I was actually wasting time while waiting for the robots in a G1 cartoon.

I kid you not, with no exaggeration, I WAS falling asleep by the end of the movie.
I think my exact words were, "Wow. God damn it."

This is EXACTLY how I felt after getting done wasting my life watching damn near every single attempt at humor:

I think the humor is awsome. I mean the freaking crowd was ALL laughting. Tell a movie capable of putting the entire full theathre laughting their arses off.

Nemescream wrote:I'm sure Bay is relieved, after The Island bombed so bad last Summer. Career saved by nerds and car robots! Must be pretty sobering for him considering how much he initially loathed the idea, and still hates the G1 cartoon.

Now they need to bring in a new writer (SIMON FURMAN PLZ), and a new director for the sequels.

NO, NO, NO! Please, let's NOT do that! This one was an excellent movie! I would hate for Transformers to go the way of the X-men trilogy: First director's movies = SWEET!!! that new guy's movie = OMG, WHY???????

Seriously, Micheal Bay and his group did a great job, so keep them on. hehehe ^_^ They know where their version of the Transformers universe is going, and to get anyone else in there would be to screw it up. Two different points of views of one creation, though they may have similar ideas, are always going to be two completely different stories.
