I DID! Very interesting. Love knowing that Takara went to bat for all that is good and right. But this raises one question. If the masters were at the helm, why the heck do her arms just dangle in Alt mode instead of pegging in neatly. As I just got her yesterday, I will spend the rest of the evening analyzing, surveying her more carefully.

Sabrblade - thanks for the link to the interview.

I might be misremembering it, since I only fiddled with a friend's copy once, but one of Arcee's pistols stores underneath her car mode and tabs into her hands, locking them in place.
Like this?

Takara being at the helm would explain this post that came up a while back, showcasing that she has a bunch of hidden functionalities. It explains the arms.

Actually answering the question (exchange rates are for that release month, not today's)

Takara 2004 Predacon gift set - ¥14,000 (US$133)
Takara 2010 Predacon gift set - ¥15,000 (US$182)
Hasbro 2013 Predacon gift set - US$119.99 (¥11,922)

So it depends on the year. In 2004 the US dollar was stronger, in 2010 the yen was stronger, and in 2013 things finally broke even. Right now the US dollar is very strong against the yen. So Hasbro's Predaking was cheaper than Takara's, BUT Japanese online retailers like HLJ and others were selling the 2004 set for ¥11,200 (US$106) and the 2010 set for ¥12,000 (US$146) so in the end we all paid about the same from our domestic shops.

More relevant, let's look at reissue Insecticons:

Takara 2004 TC Insecticon set - ¥3,500 (US$31.94)
Takara 2004 e-Hobby Insectron clones - ¥3,500 (US$31.94)
Hasbro 2009 Universe Insecticon set - US$34.99 (¥3,173)
Hasbro 2015 Platinum Insecticon set - US$79.99 (¥9,371)

Until 2009 the Hasbro vs. Takara prices were pretty even. Then 2015 comes along and Hasbro (or is it K-Mart?) loses their mind and raises the price by more than double.

That one we can attribute to TakaraTomy designer Hironori Kobayashi, who designed the figure at his own personal insistence. As it was Arcee, he wanted to give fans the Arcee toy they've been wanting for 28 years, and had to really push for Hasbro to let him design it as close to the G1 animation model as possible, since Hasbro was more wanting an updated design that differed from the original G1 design a la the other Classics-style figures.

In fact, Hasbro was even considering wanting an Arcee toy that could possibly retooled into new Blurr toy, but Kobayashi-san, along with Yuki Ohshima, managed to convince them how cool a G1-faithful Arcee would be, and so Hasbro accepted.

Though, Hasbro's Arcee isn't quite an exact match for G1 Arcee, color-wise, what with all the black parts it has. But Takara's Arcee will be colored much more faithfully to the cartoon.

That dirty son of a ****. :D

Buy a third party Arcee if you want G1!

I REALLY like IDW Arcee. Even the red over the pink is better in my opinion!

Go buy MMC Azalea if you want IDW Arcee.

Do you know what the acronym "CHUG" stands for ?

Classics Henkei United Generations.

Combiner Wars is part of the Generations line. Read the package. It says "Generations".

Classics is far from dead. it's now expanding to Beast Wars and Armada homages. And Funpub exclusives are also accepted by the fandom as being part of the "classics" line since they homages to characters from different "Generations" of Transformers.

I wouldn't mind seeing that Diaclone version we saw a few months back that had a blue and white Mix-Master.

Thanks Chuckdawg, glad you took it the right way! And yeah, your comments did get me excited though I find it really hard to see Takara releasing those constructicons individually as MPs. But hey, it will be you who says "I told you so" when the time comes.

And as for the G1s, Haha, yeah all in one set would be nuts. I am really curious about that Trypticon rerelease. Will he come with all his parts, how expensive will he be. The Predaking was reasonably priced and that's been the most recent reissue before the insanely expensive Insecticons so it could go either way.

Speaking of Predaking, I realized that he is a gestalt made of figures that are roughly the same size as modern day voyagers. He is made of 5 figures though, instead of six, so Generations Devastator would be bigger. But I dont think it would make him THAT much bigger. And I took a picture of him compared to Energon Omega Sentinel (sorry for the crap quality and the fact that its against a mirror) and it seems he would have to be A LOT taller to reach Omega's hight. So from this assessment I am going to guess that Generations Devastator will be in between these two toys, so not as big as everyone thinks.

with all the speculation on size, ill toss in my opinion: titan class doesnt mean titan sized.

6 voyagers = 4 voyagers / 1 leader

which either way, i assume will be about the size TFC hercules, so a bit taller than the current CW guys. which in my opinion, devy should be a little bigger than the average scramble city combiner.

I'm not picky on size. I would not rage one bit at a faithful IDW-based version, but I know that this would not make many collectors happy.

My guess is 4 Voyagers, an Ultra to Leader sized Long Haul, and some compatibility in some weird way with the Prowl deluxe Humvee.

Aren't there only 5 living constructions in IDW? If hasbro's going to follow that, I wholeheartedly subscribe to that train of thought despite what I really want. However, if it's 6 figures, two torso, four limbs, I wonder if they'd make it so that Hook could become a leg, so that that the Humvee Prowl could become the upper torso.

Fellas, I'm not far enough in RID to understand much about Prowlastaor. I know he exsists. Im cunfused about your conversation. So Prowl has a new beefy Humvee form? So he is big enough to fit with the Constructicons? But what I really want to know is, do we know there is a Hunvee Prowl toy coming, or is this all speculation? I don't mind any comic spoilers either if thats what it takes to answer the questions. Thanks.

Well, after Scrapper's death, they tried using his body as a dummy leg, but that didn't work as it was just dead weight. Late in RID Season 1, it's discovered that Prowl has been mind controlled by the Cons, and he's been given a new body (humvee) to act as a prototype for a modular Devastator design that, if it worked, Megatron could take over. This plan was thwarted, but the Constructicons decided to stay with Prowl since they liked his way of thinking, having shared his mind in combined mode.

Point being, with the different body and a healthy dose of mass shifting, Prowl's the head/shoulders, Hook is the right leg, and Long Haul is bigger to fill in the torso a bit.

Thanks! Its been bugging me for a while because everyone is so excited about the toy possibly incorporating Prowl. It sounds like a cool story arc in the books, but I just really don't see it happening with the toy. At least, not at first.

Thats what I thought. But now I better understand peoples speculation of a Voyager Prowl. That would make sense for a Hummer.

And Cobotron, you will notice a lot of people are talking about him transforming into a head, that's because visually, that is pretty much the only part of him that is recognisably Prowl:

I dunno... we've been getting a lot of IDW designs, but Devastator is one of those iconic characters where people not following the comics would scratch their heads if he didn't have a G1-esque, 6 Constructicon configuration. Particularly in a 6-pack that seems to homage the G1 packaging.

I see what you mean, but at this point it's not unheard of. CW has already subbed out Slingshot and Wildrider with new characters, so it's still in the air.

Personally, I'm game for whatever. As a fan of the comics Prowlastator would be neat, but an up to date oiriginal 6 Devastator would be cool also and I can see why some might want that more.

If I had to guess, it'll probably be an all Con Devastator, but that might not mean that the team is re-setting in IDW.

I see. It's cool how his head is a hybrid of the two.

Yea, I totally doubt IDW would reset Devastator - Prowl will remain in charge there.

As far as CW replacement limbs... those guys aren't yet known characters in the comics (to my knowledge), so the situation is somewhat different.

I dunno... I'm rooting for a Devastator made up of 6 voyager Constructicons (even 5 voyagers and 1 leader would be acceptable to me) - especially given the gift set nature of the packaging.

All of this.
After looking at those pics above, all he needs is a pair of clip-on red head fins to make him look Prowly.
I want the update, for sure. I'm old.
But I'm liking more the fan idea that a voyager(or leader, etc.) size IDW Prowl, that works with the limbs, would be a cool way to bring it all together.
