Maybe we could steer things back towards the game itself, the pros and cons of the event, rather than bickering over departed members and making ourselves look bad to anybody who pokes their head in from the front page.
Yes, it does suck that only the top 80 alliances (roughly 320 players) are going to get 3*/4* Magnus or Galvy. But we already knew that the system for getting characters even above 1* was crap. You have a decent chance at a 2* from the free crystals, low chance of 3*, and practically nill chance of a 4*. Why? Because they want you to pay for those characters. They hook you with easy low level free play and then make it so you almost have to fork over real money once you've invested a lot of time and gotten interested in the game. At the end of the day, it's a game that's stacked to favor those who invest more money but you can get plenty of free entertainment out of it as well. Maybe you hit a glass ceiling in leveling up. So just keep attacking bases at a comfortable level and enjoy the new bots. Enjoy the game for what it's good at.

The only way to get that is to hit higher and higher zones.
This is not actually true. You could certainly get the necessary resources from your harvesters and hitting whatever zone you're comfortable in. It would take longer but it is, technically, possible.
