Transformers Falls Out of Box Office Top 10... And, For Many, Is On It's Way Out of Theatres

Postby Skowl » Sun Aug 12, 2007 3:02 pm

After talking to the staff of my local theatre, they've assured me that this coming week will be Transformers's last in the theatres of my city. It's down to only one showing a day, and will be gone by friday.

The film has also dropped out of the Box Office top 10 for the first time (see this weekend's numbers), a sure sign that the long journey leading up to the film, the first live-action movie in the Transformers franchise, a momentous milestone for the brand, and the main subject of fan discussion for the last few years, is finally coming to a close.

It's been a wild ride, that's for sure, and a great experience for me personally. When I went to Toys R Us a few weeks ago, and found they removed their huge TF display, it really hit home that this whole event that I had been looking forward to for years, that I had invested so much of my personal time and effort into (99% of that effort working here on Seibertron.com), is... well... over.

I probably won't see the movie on the big screen again, and I won't get to sink back in my seat with my eyes wide open and my jaw to the floor (which was the reaction I had during certain scenes), but that's the way it goes, isn't it? Next week, after I take in one final showing of Transformers, I will walk by my local theatre and the movie poster outside will be gone, and it'll be another chapter closed in the ongoing history of the Transformers.

Oh well, there's always the DVD to look forward to... now I just need to get a decent TV

Yeah it's a weird feeling alright. But near me, there are a few cheap little dollar theaters, I am certain Transformers will move in.

Which means Transformers should be entering the dollar theater now.

Woo-hoo, now I can go see the film again.

There is a drive-in theatre in a small town outside my city that usually plays movies that are a month or two out of theatres, which means I may get to see Transformers again, only this time at the drive-in (how à-propos!)

Don't worry, there is now Movies 2 & 3 to look foward to, as the franchise has been proven that it will make serious bucks  And not just that, there will be new toys along with those movies :P

Eh, all good things come to an end, I suppose. Now it's off to the dollar theater and eagerly awaiting the DVD.

When I first seen Star Wars it was at a drive in theater in 1978

I hope some child will get a chance to see it that didn't when it was in the theaters....and have the same experience with it as I did with Star Wars a long time ago

I went to see Rush Hour 3 on satuday and seen only one poster for Transformers when only a month back there were displays and such all over the place

In my local area the movie is being shown at 2 theaters, 3 times a day (2 matinees, then once around 6pm). I'm glad I saw it at the drive-in 2 weeks ago, because last weekend it got bumped. It hasn't shown up at the dollar theater yet, but I hopefully it will.

Aaaaah.. Drive in theaters.. They were brutal in the summer down here.
I remember seeing SW in the drive in format in the late 70's. My first time seeing SW was in a regular theater the day it opened in 77..

It would be nice to see TF at a drive in though.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Yeah - there's the cheap theater run - and also, for cities that are lucky enough to have them - there's always the outside chance of a midnight screening of old movies every now and then.

Cool to see that the movie eeked out a $300 million U.S. box office take before bowing out of the top 10.

It's amazing though how fast movies are going in and out of theaters now. Amazing in that it used to take movies almost the entire summer to reach $250 million (see Batman in '89) - true, two big reasons are behind this: higher ticket prices and more theater seats. But conceptually, it's amazing that a movie like Pirates and Transformers can storm in - make almost $200 million in two weeks, and three weeks later, be on their way out to the second-run theaters.

Overall - I wasn't a huge fan of the movie - but was glad to see Transformers fans get their moment in the sun again. And we have the badge of honor knowing that this was the only non-sequel release this year to rake in $300 mill.

Well, it may be going out in your neck, but over here we're still getting regular showings... but then we did open three weeks later. I just got to see it for the first time today, and my local cinema's doing about five showings a day, I think.

Well, I'm stationed over in Kuwait right now and they've been showing the movie every weekend. I went last night and it's still drawling a decent crowd with us military folks. I've seen it 5.5 times (there was a comedy show last night so I skipped out early:( ) and I plan on going back on Sunday. It's free for us. All I can say is I can't wait for it to be released in DVD or whatever and I can NOT wait for #s 2 & 3.
