I'd actually like to nominate Beast Wars as a whole. Sure you can argue about TRUKK NOT MUNKY 'till you're blue in the face, but there's no doubt that with the exception of some of the earliest releases, the Beast Wars toys were superbly engineered. That, combined with the stupendous sculpting and paintwork (especially the Transmetals and Transmetal 2s with their biomechanical asymmetrical sculpting and beautiful airbrushed metallic paint) makes Beast Wars one of THE heydeys of Transformers for toys alone. Even the shelfwarmers of the day were absolute works of art, especially compared to stuff that clogs shelves nowadays. (Injector, Transquito and Scavenger/TM Inferno spring to mind). And that's not even taking into account the cartoon, which is at least in my opinion one of the best Transformers cartoons ever made, and a damn good show in its own right.

That'd be cheating ;)

Pick just one year and think about why and tell us! :D

Oh, now that's just cruel.

If I had to pick a year though I'd go for 1998, simply because some of the best toys of the era were released- notably Transmetal Megatron, Scavenger and RAMPAGE. Also it's the year my sister was born, so that was awesome. I'm also fond of 1999 though, for the Transmetal 2s that exemplify everything I love in a toy- Gigeresque, biomechanical sculpting, chrome and airbrushing. The Transmetal 2s were, in my opinion, Transformers' equivalent of Kenner's superb Aliens toys.

I would like to throw in too. To me, 2007 was a major turning point with the live action movies making transformers big big. Then came the thrilling 30 line, that truly was a great time too. And finally, the revival of the combiner and the headmaster. All good times for me :BOT:

Thinking more, I might amost change my year to 2003. That was the year we got the first prototype pictures of the first masterpiece, and the first BiCaltech car.

I remember that time, and I remember the hype on these boards. Discussing them (and armada Unicron) was a huge part of why I joined these boards. I don't think the actual figures came out till the following year, but if you're an old timer like me, you can remember the out right magic of those images. We poured and poured over them. Hell, the anticipation may have been just as good as when we actually got the figures themselves. They were so radically different, and better, than anything before, I don't think we'll ever have a time like that again.

2007 was a great year. Some great toys too, actually. Though toy-wise I'd rank 2008 as better- some of the tail-end releases from the movie line were superb (especially Stockade).

I feel we had that a bit last year with Devastator and his slow reveal.

Yes and no. 2003 was simply a different time. Leaked images on the net was still a relatively new thing, and those figures were so amazingly new.

As cool as Devestator is for many of you, its really nothing that new or amazing, especially in light of 3rd party offerings. Plus, there were a lot fewer members back then, so discussion seemed more relevant.

Not trying to take away from your experience, just stating how I see things with hindsight.
