Transformers Masterpiece: General Discussion
Re: Transformers Masterpiece: General Discussion
ugh, time for a new Starscream! I just grabbed the MP-11 from the drawer. I got it mostly because Starscream was a glaring hole in my MP roster and I had big discount at HLJ. The torso never locks, the articulation is limited compared to some other figures, lots of kibble on the legs and back, wings must be splayed out for some poses, canopy sits too high in robot-mode, the likeness of the face could be better and he needs more expressions. But with the way the line is lately, he'll probably have a huge packpack and be over complicated... Wish they'd go back to fun transformations or at least better durability.

Well, so far the best "MP" Starscream is from Maketoys. But I'm sure the seekers will have a proper new mold eventually, MP-11 being cheap and overpriced garbage.

I'd rather TF Prime.
Just imagine, a MP TF Prime Optimus and Bulkhead without unpainted fake wheels but the actual wheels of the vehicle that go to their proper place in bot mode instead. Also, a MP Airachnid. Poor girl deserves a good toy.

To be a TRUE MP Nightbird, she would only be a non-transformable action figure.

I bet that she would be one hell of a deluxe "accessory" coming with another small MP. Who would that be though?

She can be standalone, car mode and all. Just put in the bio she's a mass-produced maid.

Well, with all those that threw money at them for the grossly overpriced MP-44, lowering prices is never going to happen now.

Is it just me or the G1 Masterpiece are not worth it anymore? Overpriced, fragile, overcomplicated, and especially not good looking at all. Especially with those backpacks that look like a scrapyard of shredded metals.
On the other hand, the Beast Wars MP are killing it, with only the price as an issue.
However, ironically the BEST MP are the movie MPM line. Complicated, yes, but not fragile at all, amazing looking even from the back, and most importantly, very, very fairly priced.
Any reason for this trend?

Re: Transformers Masterpiece: General Discussion
So far I think only the new MP-45 Bumblebee looks terrible.
MP-44 Optimus Prime's backpack is a bit bigger than should be because of the voice box. Don't know why Takara compromised his silhouette for a kiddie gimmick. But at least it's tidy.
MP-47 Hound looks great, too. But like someone said in the other thread, transforming him is like defusing a bomb because of all those cracked Hounds.
So I guess I somewhat agree, I'm done with MP until further notice.

It could be argued that there was a change behind the scenes, maybe some designers were transfered over to work on the new projects (and maybe some attention was diverted to Takara's own ip that they don't share with hasbro) who knows though for sure. Afterall Takara really only cares for their home market. Maybe this is the direction that they want to go in? The ole be careful what you wish for trope.

Hound just needs a second run with stronger, reinforced plastic in the spots where the first runs have cracked.
Then again, I'm one of the few who still owns and enjoys the old Alternators Hound toy. Probably the only Alternators mold that I actually enjoyed playing with.

Alternator Hound is my default MP. Especially with the 3D printed accessory kit that a long begone Seibertronian made me years ago. Unfortunately the plastic bar that hold the seats got fragile and brittle over the years so it broke in two. Fortunately, Gorilla glue did the job to fix it.

It amazes me that the MPMs are the most affordable right now, and they have still put out some good quality MPs too for the most part.
