Re: Transformers The Movie Too Sexualized?
That's right.
The Witwicky's were portrayed very badly in this movie. Almost no dignity at all. Save for the "no sacrifice, no victory" motto.
It's like they are not the Witwicky's at all. But The Three Stooges wearing the Witwicky name tags.
Spiderman got its share of this boy-girl angle. It even got a sizzling kissing scene. But done gracefully. Peter didn't have to drop his dignity whenever he daydreams about MJ. Even though obsessed, he had always treated the lady with care and respect.
Unlike the sex-crazed bumbling idiot image given to Sam.

Re: Transformers The Movie Too Sexualized?
I really am suprised at the level of prudishness here, I watched this movie with my mum and my sister on christmas day, and they cracked up with the masturbation scene.
as for too much midriff, i've seen more at the local swimming pool, i seen more at the beach, quite frankly if anything was wrong about it it was them snogging on top of bumblebee.
it's a PG13 which means
if you watch the movie(you can close your eyes or go out the room at the bit you don't like) with Bay's commentry he says he's not interested in making Transformers a kids film, the target demographic was people who had G1 toys and had grown up with transformers, not 4 year olds, as bay specifically states during barricade's "are you username ladiesman217?" and that he'd be worryed about pearants who would let their kids see a PG13 film as it's quite violent and a bit scary. Nor was it meant to pander soley for TFgeeks, so some squishies have to be in there, it can't just be robot et robot action.
and if mikela ends up with sam(witty, but not physically attractive) is she really that shallow? or is the man whose perving over her, and kicked his best mate out the car (which he beleived he needed to get to have any chance with women) to give her a lift home the truely shallow one?
and i agree, if girls are getting pregnant and dying at 12 then there sex education has been very badly handled.

PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.

Re: Transformers The Movie Too Sexualized?
I personally don't think Sam's too perved. I generally think they make a film portrayal more human when they show all aspects of his character, and really, every male I know engages in what most would think is 'locker-room talk.' This all was tame.
I thought the car thing was one of the first ten man-laws...
though I can't say Sam isn't good looking. Frankly, I can't think of an average fellow I've met I'd think would actually be considered attractive. I'm at the stage where chicks still go after the flamboyant douches.
And, for the last segment, you can blame 'abstinence only' programs for the States.

I don't think so. You could watch the 6 o'clock news or Mtv any time of the day, and have more sexuality. Regular Tv is way worse than the movie was.

Re: Transformers The Movie Too Sexualized?
Count me in with the "y'all are repressed baptists" crowd. This was, for me, a fairly realistic depiction of teen sexuality. Sam wants it all the time, though he isn't quite sure what it is yet. It's a difficult time. For a 16 year old, he's pretty respectful in the presence of blistering hormones.
I despise the way hollywood cashes in on T&A, but this movie HAD to have it. It's a testosterone thrill ride, a man-brute film to eat pizza to in between Halo and touch football sessions. Considering its demographic, we got off fairly light in terms of flaming T&A.
Also, coming out of a puritan house that deeply feared sexuality, Sam's mother's comment was not only A.) deeply funny, well-timed humor, but B.) a healthy outlook on sexuality. It's allowed, it can be discussed, there's nothing to fear, and your boundaries are your boundaries. More parents should be able to simply blurt stuff out like that, it assures kids that sexuality exists and they're not running around with evil demons for genitalia.
Europe is way more realistic about this. In USA, the only options are puritan abstinence and fisting porn. Pretty extreme.

Re: Transformers The Movie Too Sexualized?
There's no nudity or love scenes in the movie.
But the attempt to make a joke out of something sexual, and boob-rubbing of Mikaela just is so out of place. Inappropriate for the movie and the scenes.
It doesn't add to the overall entertainment value of the movie. Just makes you wonder what kind of sucker even thought of injecting these things in. It's like square pegs on round holes.

Jealous? I was.Anyhow, the 6 pm news/ MTV comment should end this arguement. With so much of the media using sex because it sells, a teenage girl pressing up against a teenage boy in the last 45 seconds of a movie is not really much of an issue. My issue was with the masturbation line. No moral objection or discomfort, I just find it massively pointless and ham fisted dialogue in a movie that had plenty of pointless and ham fisted dialogue.
That's a good point.

Re: Transformers The Movie Too Sexualized?
its hardly stuff most young teens dont do.
Most characters in shows and films are older than the target audience.
Bratz is made for young girls but theyre about 13.
Spiderman is a collage student but all age groups love it.
i thought it was on the right side of subtle.
Be kinda bad if they didnt find love.
I hate that when they dont have a nice sweet story in a action filled film cos its so incomplete.
and depressing.

Re: Transformers The Movie Too Sexualized?
Our church had Transformers as their movie for the movie night. It was great. One of the families with a home theater system played it. They tried to hit the mute for the masterbation word but the stereo was up so loud that it still came through. That actually made it funnier. Especially all the "nice try" comments the effort got. The kids especially the guys loved it.
It was just released when our church played it so several of the kids had not seen it yet. That was an experiance. When Bumblebee turned from the piece of crap to the brand new car the cheers were louder then the movie which was extremely loud.
I have seen on some parenting message boards that discussed the movie how they were not going to let their kids watch the movie even though they loved it.
The one problem I have had with the movie is my daughter will scream giant and run from the room. I think it gave her nightmares.
