ULTIMATE BB; is he worth the price? come in to see.

Postby ZedzDead » Sun Aug 05, 2007 2:58 pm

i just got mine, and the answer is yes. even tho he is basically a masterpiece, the comparison to any other masterpiece is very different in the fact that UBB is so heavily reliant on electronics and lights (not a bad thing).
but has almost the same amount of detail. he is also MUCH bigger than a masterpiece (any of them). pretty articulate, but limited due to the fact that the gears and electronics are all connected. a little bit of kibble, but what TF (besides most masterpieces) don't? anyway, if you see him, you will want him, and if you see him at walmart (last one) like i did, and cant afford it, like me, you will go throw some charm on the customer care lady and get her to hold it for you so you may go out and hock your stuff, like i did.
:}

oh, and voyager megs is pretty nice too. funny, i much prefer him to the leader ver.

I got mine and I really like it. It's really not fair to compare it to a masterpiece transformer. It certainly is not as intricate in its transformation by far. However he is big, and loaded with alot of very cool gimmicks, and the animatronics work alot better than I expected.

very true, and i agree w/ you whole heartedly. the only reason i compared it to the masterpieces is b/c i remeber when i first saw pics of him, i immediately thought he would be more intricate w/ his transformation, but even tho he is not too complicated, he is still a very detailed, and an awesome fig, worthy of standing next to your masters. but he is not in the same realm whatsoever. i just wanted to inform the others who were still asking that question.

he is bigger than energon omega supreme and heavier. has great gimmicks. and the pretty articulated. not a masterpiece, but definately just as detailed. just the transformation isnt as complex as masterpiece goes. i have no regrets. but the one who passes him by will. me thinks.

I don't think so... he look very realistic but not highly accurate. To tell you honestly Unleashed Bumblebee is more accurate and more detailed than Ultimate. Though you might not agree you can compare pictures of any sort and see that Ultimate is only averagely accurate because he is, as you said, basically a master piece. Though Ultimate does display a fine electronic sounds and movement.

Here is a photo of mine with the chest properly transformed.

Gimmicks are transformation, Headlights light up in robot mode and car mode. Taillight light up in car mode. (sadly it lights up the whole rear portion of the car. I have no idea how they managed to prevent this in the front of the car but not in the rear. In robot mode it plays music. Waves its arms around, and fires its missile. In car mode it honks when you press the autobot symbol, makes acceleration sounds when you push it forward, and breaking sounds when you stop it. poseability is limited because of the animatronics. Over all its a cool toy. but if you're looking for a movie accurate bumblebee your better off geting the deluxe or waiting for an actual masterpeice version of this guy.

I'd rather spend my money on one single expensive and well done figure like UBB than waste the exact same amount of money on crappy Minicons and/or boring scout repaints.

he's not $$ wasted if you have $$ to waste. and of course compared to an unleashed statue he is not as detailed, but that is a given. he is a great fig. and really, 10 years down the line, you probably will kick yourself in the ass for not getting him. i wish they would've just kept the animatronics down to just lights and sounds, and made a more articulate bot. but he is still a great fig. and the car mode over a foot long. here are some size comparison pics in robot mode.

Id love him. But i simply cant aford £80. He is not worth £80, and no one is getting £80 off of me for him. For £80, I expect something that is better than any of the MPs, or something that is more collectable and sought after than a pristeen, stickers unaplied G1 Megs (ie something that is worth more money than any of the three most expensive tfs I have ever bought). Ultimate Bumblebee is not this thing. How ever, you are right, compairing him to a fricking statue is stupid.

doesnt £80 translate into 160 USD? sorry if my currency exchange is wrong, but you are correct, if he goes for that amount, he is not worth it. he is not worth 119 USD on ebay to me either. for what i got, he is woth 80 USD. he is huge, and heavy, and is a 13 inch sports car that fully transforms into BB. i definately would not pay more than 80 for him.

Wouldn't it be cheaper for someone in the UK to import it loose/complete from the US? Even after shipping, you would probably save a lot.

I'm not bashing him because I can't afford him, There are many more things that I would rather spend $80 on than an overpriced Bumblebee. That's great that he's worth the $80 to you but don't try to degrade the opinions of others who don't find him worth it.

I bought one last night for $80 before tax at the Target that I visit. Two of them available.

Yes...it took me several minutes looking at the figure/box to decide whether or not to purchase him. I mean, I rarely spend that much. The only two times that I spent over $60 on a single purchase, was $61 on a G1 Defensor, and $66 for 9 classics (3 voyager and 6 deluxes).

After getting the figure out of the box, I start noticing what makes him different from other figures - the Ultimate Bumblebee entertains! He's actually dymanic (movements and various sounds on his own with a trigger), while most other figures are just static displays (there's nothing wrong with that).

If there is a video demo of Ultimate BB (youtube?), it might help ppl to better understand what actually comes with this figure, than seeing him in photos. To me, if Target had a demo figure on display (like demo game consoles for a try), to show what the Ultimate BB could do, it might trigger more sales.

I'm glad that I got him. If one day I see him on clearance for $50 or less, I will buy another one as a gift for holidays - almost everyone likes Bumblebee :)

That's just my view. Thanks to ZedzDead for the good job on the photos and review that shows the great details of the large Ultimate BB. It helped me for sure.
