Count me in that club. Here's a question, though: of the people who really like the film, how many of you are primarily Autobot fans (ie., favorite character is Optimus, BB, Jazz, Rodimus, etc) and of the people who really dislike the film, how many are primarily Decepticon fans? I'm more of a Con fan myself, and I was curious if there's a factional bias towards the film.

I agree. I would bet that a good chunk of those that are singing the praises of this movie are in fact Autobot friendly. For me I have always liked the Decepticons more, hell I went to the movie wearing my Decepticon emblem T-shirt. Also I have always prefered the bad guys over the good guys, they always seem more interesting to me and have the better designs and colors. And this is one of the biggest problems with this movie, the Decepticons are basically just cannon fodder, which really kills any ejoyment that I could have gotten out of this movie.

As far as the movie goes, no I didnt really like it. As a TF movie it failed horribly, as a dumb summer action moive it was barely entertaining. You can check out my review in the review sticky thread.

Wars are supposed to be fought.

Fortunately, in here, just with words.

See, I don't understand why this happens.

I don't like the non-transforming stuff, but I don't let it ruin the rest of the 20+ years of TF history for me.

I didn't particulary enjoy the Armada/Energon/Cybertron cartoons, nor did I really like the gimmicks and some of the toys absoloutely sucked.

But I didn't let it ruin the rest of the 20+ years of TF history for me.

So i'm curious as to why people (not just you Asderiphel, because i've seen the same statement from others) are allowing the movie to erase 20+ years of enjoyment.

Well, Beast Wars, being respectful / part of G1's continuity, got alot of us guys interested and in geek mode again for Transformers.

Then Beast Machines, done by a guy or two who didn't even want to be doing it... took that image down a bit.

Robots in Disguise brought forth a few interesting toys and returned vehicles to the line. But the cartoon was silly and comedic.

(Enter years of JUNK cartoons)

So then this "movie" was coming out. A chance to return, go back to G1 and with a GIANT budget!
Oh my god oh my god oh my god, they're redoing G1 but making it more serious and live action!!!

Only, it was not.

It's really not much more complex than that.
For many:
Expectations- G1 done more seriously in live action.
Reality- Goofballs. Teen movie with American Godzilla humor.

Growing up, my dad started buying me TF's when I was 3. In fact the first TF I got was G1 Megatron.

Sonce that time, TF's have always been a common ground that my dad and I can get along on.

I took him opening weekend for the movie and he still remembers all the old episodes. No he absolutely hated the movie until about halfway through, the Bumblebee kidnap scene. After that it was all good.

I on the other have seen the movie twice now. The first time, I just didnt want it to suck. That was my only expectation and hope. And it didn't. I honestly like the new designs and take on the TF lore. For a 'reset' I think it was pretty good.

The 2nd time I saw the movie I went with a more jaded view. As a MOVIE, not a TF movie but just a movie, it has plot holes, terrible dialogue, poor acting, and really I was hoping Prime would accidently step on Spike. But it was still entertaining and seriously, the SFX make up for the shortcomings. I mean Ironhide doing a rocket-propelled somersault was sweet. And Megs, I mean except for the design I think they got the character 100% right.

To bring this post in full circle, the crushing of Spike was something both my Dad and I agree should be in the sequel. But we're both looking forward to it .. the sequel I mean.

Well, I liked it. It was thus far my favorite movie of the last couple of years. (way better than Spider-Man 3) I dont't hink I've ever seen a mvoie like this that so many girls enjoyed as well. And for all those who had problems witht his movie (that it was not comparable to G1) I remind you all of...Autobots playing basketball, and "A Decepticon Raider in King arthur's Court." The movie was great.

I just saw this for a third time yesterday and still liked it. Sure, the humor was too much, the lame Bay slow mos are over the top, and the dialogue was not the best. What did we expect was going to happen with him at the helm. And yes, I did dislike the camera work. I understand why they did what they did but I just didn't need this movie to be Saving Private Ryan. I wanted LOTR's styled camera work-broad pan outs so that I could visually take in all of the action and see the effects clearly. But overall, the movie succeeded in my book because it was easy to follow, entertained a broad audience (what, it wasn't taylor maid just for us???), and brought the Transformers back into the mainstream. It's going to give us expanded animated opportunities, more opportunites to collect, and future movie sequels. My hope for this movie is that the DVD release contains extended sequences and extras showing the construction of the CGI models. And for the sequels, listen to the fans and give us more character development and screen time of the the Autobots and Decepticons. The seeds have been planted now so it's time to focus on what's important in these movies: the TRANSFORMERS!

Yeah, and the commercial failure of the 2006 movie. Sure, I saw it-but I couldn't have taken my girlfriend to it.

<---- 33, grew up with G1, saw the '86 movie in the theater, didn't much care for aspects of G2, loved Beast Wars AND Beast Machines, didn't like the shows for R.I.D. or Energon, and have not seen one episode of Cybertron.

I was originally very sceptical about this movie, especially in regards to the designs. After the first trailer (not the "Mars" teaser, the first real one,) I decided to go neutral and adapted a "wait and see" point of view. The more I saw of the movie before it was released, the more I was looking forward to seeing it. After people from the fansites (especially this one,) had given positive reviews of their preview experience, I then decided to just let go of my preconceptions of what I thought I would want to see, and went into the theater to have good time, rather than a time spent over analysing what could have, should have, been done like what has come before.

I ended up having a great time watching what I thought was a fun, action flick with some cool looking bots. I don't care about what anyone else said or felt about the movie; to me, I was watching Transformers, Autobots and Decepticons continuing their war on Earth. I've seen it twice, and I'll be buying the DVD for sure.

To Transformers or Spidey 3? I took my g/f to Transformers, and she really enjoyed it. And Spidey 3 (now that I think about it), which we thought was kinda lame.

Talking about the 1986 movie-sorry if that wasn't clear. My point being that the new movie attracts guys and girls of all ages, especially middle and high school aged kids. The 86 movie was really just for the fans-no mass commercial appeal.

We were strung along and people got their expectations up for something that was never going to be.

Forget blaming Bay, it's Murphy they should be blaming. Blaming for promising things that were never going to be.

Oh, I was wondering where that G1 expectation had come from. I obviously missed Mr. Murphy stating that during all the hubbub. That's certainly unfortunate that he would say that, and then not truly follow-through.

Yes. If I were to use the star rating where 1 is worst and 5 is best, I'd give the movie a solid 4. Maybe 4.5. No where near able to usurp my favorite movie from it's spot, but great none the less.

Phoenix_306 wrote:PMy problem is this. Op - BB - Ratchet - Jazz et al, they've all gone through loads of changes, but they've all had character. This movie seemed to bypass that.

I understand the issue of being able to tell one from another during the final battle you mentioned later in your post (my issue would be with characters like Bonecrusher and Brawl), but I feel more character development beyond being clearer about who's who in the Decepticons' lower ranks would have done more harm than good.

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

I've seen the movie 5 times now so yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of it. I knew I wasnt getting a direct G1 movie...I think of it as the Ultimate version of Transformers, but it was everything I wanted it to be...big, dumb action!

And for the record I like Michael Bay movies too...granted, the shakey cam action needed to go in some places, but very few directors would have done this movie any better

my thoughts exactly, before people started to bash bay you should have made sure that no one else could have done any better. because if someone else had been chosen to direct tf you would have probaly complained about him as well.
