To this day, I'm still in denial about that. :-( I hope that one day I'll be able to accept this. I still haven't been able to accept it as the "rest" of BW, but I'm working on it...:shruggin: I mean, it exists so what are you gonna do :???:

The Rattrap episode is one of the best in a TF series. Overall I liked BM, the quality of writing was there although some of the changes were really major and I can understand why some didn't like it. I myself didn't really buy the idea of Cybertron being once organic.

Btw, another great element of BM was the whole cyberpunk feel to it with Cybertron as the backdrop. Imagine the possibilities of a War Within series.. =P~

Beast Machines is my favorite storyline as far as serious Transformers stuff goes. Not to mention it's the only series that takes place 100% on Cybertron ... no other Transformers series can boast that fact. I just recently watched/listened to the whole series a few weekends back while working on the galleries for Seibertron and realized the one thing that I really can't stand about this excellent series: all the bitching, complaining and bickering. It seems like every episode has at least one scene (if not a handful) where the characters are bitching at each other or bickering with one another. The bickering really gets old when you're listening to the episodes back-to-back.

Other than that though, I really like how it expanded upon the Transformers mythology ... and boy, did this series make the whole Transformers story really seem like a "mythology". It was dark, gritty, twisted, philosophical and so much more. Characters you knew and loved were turned upside down ... it really went to show you how much of an impact a situation like that would have on the key characters. Still can't believe that Rhinox turned to the "dark side" so easily but I still think he was pretty screwed up from Megatron's virus and wasn't thinking clearly.

The most fascinating thing about the series to me was how divided the fandom was about it. For once, Megatron's views kind-of/sort-of made sense. You almost wanted Megatron to win because of how he wanted to purge the planet of organic life, as did the fans themselves. Where your loyalty to Megatron's vision ends is with his fanatacism of being the only brains on the planet while everyone else should be a mindless minion of his. You kind of wanted Optimus Primal and the Maximals to lose because of how obsessed they had become with bringing organic life to Cybertron. In the end though, Primal redeems himself by finding the techno-organic balance.

And to the people who complain that there is any organic life on Cybertron period, all you have to do is watch some of the 3rd season of the G1 cartoon or the Japanese Headmasters series to see that there has been organic life on the planet in the past.

Beast Wars is probably ultimately the best series but the sheer f'ed-upness and craziness of Beast Machines makes me like it just that much more.

Beast machines is canon to G-1 but only if you agree that the temporal wave they road back to Cybertron was the only timline possible. I on the other hand would like to believe it's an alternate reality akin to Sliders and that the real ending, though never will it be done in cartoon format, the real ending would have been alot better. Or to me, the end to G-1 stops at Beast Wars. beast Machines is way too out there for me to like. I hated most of the toys, there were a few that intrigued me though.

That's what made it so good in my eyes. Usually I route for the villain to win. But in this case, I wanted both sides to win for the reasons mentioned above.

The graphics seemed inferior to BW series 3 IMO, but that was a minor distraction.

I'm just glad I can finally get a copy of it for a good price this week.

Like a good number of fans, there are things that I liked and disliked about Beast Machines.

Let's get the bad out of the way:
1. I hated the whole organic versus technology thing, simply because we hear enough of that environmentalist stuff enough as it is (not to mention that Transformers are ROBOTS)
2. Rattrap and Optimus's character changes really rankled with me. Didn't Megatron help kill Dinobot? You'd think that that would ensure Rattrap's desire to have Megatron's head on a plate, not helping him (I know that was a one-time deal, but hey, it has to be brought up. Other than that, Rattrap was okay.) The Optimus territory has been covered already, so I'm not going to go theire.

Now, for the good:
1. I confess, I loved the whole concept behind the Vehicons. The hive mind concept that went along with it should definitely been the major focus, with Optimus fighting for free will and Megatron fighting for total domination. Then there was the whole concept of taking a loveable character and warping him into something else. That is why I am probably one of the few people who likes what Mr. Skir did with Silverbolt. Imagine the regret that someone as honorable as Silverbolt would feel over being a homicidal maniac and liking it. Having that personality forced on you by someone else would only add fuel to the fire. Finally, the first three generals definitely appealed to me. I got a kick out of Tankor making like the Incredible Hulk. (Animated Lugnut, you have some big shoes to fill.) Jetstorm was a riot, and Thrust was pretty blunt.

I dont ever think that having Cybertron return to an semi-organic state will ever be popular.

However, like BW, Im sure this series popularity will continue to increase as the years roll by, the more adult targeted storytelling, darker aspects, designs etc will be appreciated more by audiences who did not have the G1 series as massive influences of their younger childhoods.

People will always fight for what they liked as children, people born in the late 70's early 80's will defend G1, people born in the late 80's early 90's will defend BW, and people born in the late 90's early 00's will defend Cybertron/animated.

Personally I feel that if BM had have been given at least another 12-15 episodes to fill before going the organic finale route, the show would have been much better. The ending to both seasons felt very rushed and forced.

If Transtech had have been made (and maybe one day it will, who knows) then Im sure BM would be remembered in a very different light to what it is now.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.
