Not giving the production staff enough time to properly dub Armada and Energon. I believe there's unfinished animation abound in both of them, and the script, particularly Energon, was very, very bad. The voices in Energon were equally bad in most cases, quite generic really, and it just makes a poor show to watch. I'll admit it was decent at times, but it's crap compared to other dubbed anime's I've seen. I hear the Japanese versions are supposed to be really good though.

For the record, Cybertron's another story. Pretty good voice work overall with distinctive voices(accents do make a difference), the best animation out of the trilogy, and barring the loose connections to Armada and Energon, a good and fun story.

Adding to that, I'm not sure how exactly these things work, but not pushing Cartoon Network to air the Energon and Cybertron at a decent time for more than six or seven weeks at a time. 6:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. weekdays is not a good way to sell an action figure line, or gain much popularity in my opinion.

Unicron's Head wrote:For me it was the Pretenders. An awesome idea with a horrible delivery. The outer shells looked rediculous, and as far as being a disguise went, give me a break. The robots were pretty piss poor too- they all looked the same and transformed the same and had those weird tiny feet. Even nostalgia couldn't get me to buy the classics (Starscream, Grimlock, Bumblebee). I even liked the idea of the ultra Pretenders where the shells would transform too, but those were just as bad if not worse.
P.S. I thought the more recent comicbook take on the Pretenders was freakin' awesome. Great idea, cool characters, but terrible figures.

dude, i hate to admit it, but yeah, the pretenders were pretty bad. bad, bad molds, they could have been done better. i really thought it was a great idea, but not because of the comics, but the the japanese continuity "Super-god Masterforce" series. i have the whole subtitled 42 series in dee-vee-day. 8) :P

The biggest mistake was Action Masters. Non-transforming Transformers was a very bad idea. It pretty much killed G1 and was the main reason I stopped collecting TFs for awhile. Taking away Grimlock's ability to convert to Dino mode made me want to cry.

While I love it, I think the storyline of TFTM was a huge mistake. For a "kid's movie" TFTM was, and still is, pretty mature. It has loads of death, not just Prime (although his is the most gut wrenching). Just off the top of my head, I can think of at least a dozen characters that are killed or shown dead. I mean, they killed off much of the first two season's characters in a matter of 20 seconds. And yes, I realize that they needed to introduce new characters for the next year's toys.

On a personal note, the cancellation of Alternators ranks up there. I love those figs. Whoever called them Masterpiece Lites was dead-on. It's a shame that we never got Bumbles and Cliffjumper. It wouldn't have bothered me if they were released as an Audi TT, a Mini-Cooper, or even a Chevy Cavalier/Cobalt. There are so many possibilities, but that's for another thread....

As far as the alternators go I don't know about audi, but I know that Mini-Cooper is owned by a german car company so it can't be used as transformer.

has to be when they killed OP and Megs in the movie, along with Starscream, Ironhide, and Ratchet...

AND that G1 Arcee didn't get a toy... hopefully it would be done soon, making some justice to the original cartoon look, an.

I think that whole thing is a kind of urban myth..

Since there *ARE* Jeeps in the alternators line and Jeep is part of Chrysler which is part of Daimler-Chrysler group and you guessed what.. Daimler is german.

so maybe it's just the VAG group that does not want to participate (Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Seat)

I hope that was sarcasim, cuz Pat Lee was a hack. And a rip off artist to boot, look what he did to Dreamwave. Yep, he ranks up on my list as well.

Here are my others:

Glen Hallit: Yeah 3H gave us Botcon to begin with, but when he took over, he killed it. Way to go Glen :-x

Mass retail's handling of the movie toys: I used to work retail, so I kinda know how things work. Hasbro didn't drop the ball, places like Walmart, Target, TRU, ect. did.

G1 post movie: Ugh, not enough space to type how horrible the post movie G1 crap was. The Rebirth tried to save things cartoon wise, and Headmasters, Targetmasters, and Powermasters tried to save the toyline. But it was all too little, too late.

Cartoon Network: Wanna kill off the momentum for a TF series, let CN handle the shows. Yeah I'd much rather watch crap like Code Lyoko and Foster's as opposed to TFs. Ugh. I really hope they don't F up with TF:Animated.

Well, everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions, but I simply don't agree. Pat Lee didn't do anything to Dreamwave. In hindsight, bad business decision were made, the company spread itself to thin and he was forced into bankruptcy, as ANYONE with a failing business would have done.
Pat Lee and Dreamwave basically brought TF comics back to the Fore again, and then upped the ante by bringing in superior art. I seriously doubt you would be buying anything IDW Transformers today without what has come before.
And for that alone, I give him a certain amount of kudos.

SnapTrap wrote:Actionmasters—The Transformers that don't transform.

Like I said, it would have been cool as a sub-line, but not to hinge the whole franchise on. They were more articulated than most TFs and the scuplts were pure gold. Outside of some bad paint on certain figures, they were not bad looking in the slightest.
But I will have to agree, while I don't think they alone are responsible for the death of G1 (the line was in a lot of decline by then anyway), it was the final nail in the coffin.

Grandus, The most obese Transformers ever.
Retrax
About 60 % of Transformers Armada toys (I'm looking at you minicons, Armada Super pants prime, Sideswipe, Jetfire, Thrust and some more)
Ultimate Bumblebee
Pat lee, that son of a *****! Not paying good artists! See you in hell from heaven ofcourse.
G1 cartoon after the scene in the movie in which Starscream dies.
And many more....
