What's up with all the weird topics?

Postby robofreak » Sun Jul 12, 2009 4:41 pm

Lately, I've noticed a bunch of weird topics and threads. Some are in lagnuages that I don't know and some are blatant advertisements to porn sites.

Is there anyway this can get fixed soon? I'm concerned about kids who look around on the site and click the links.

I've seen mass spambot attack before. But not this many at once, and not for weird **** like this. I mean, just once, can a spambot link to something actually worth seeing? It's always free WoW gold, or cheap electronics, or whatever. For once, can a spambot link to a site with something worthwhile? Like a 3D TF viewer or something?

I doubt it. They spambots want to get you to click on stuff that you have no reason to click.

I know that Seibertron is trying to gear itself around being kid-friendly, but I don't see how it's going to work with advertisements for adult-oriented sites being linked to from those who are clearly just spamming and have no interest being here other than to direct traffic to their lousy sites.

Close. They're advertising, the same as any banner ad. However, what spambots advertise is usually much lower quality.

i reported about half of the spam posts. i seem to find 2-4 spambots a month, but thats when i'm not looking.

normally any abc### or similar is a spambot. really annoying things.

i wish there was a "report this user" button. might help get them booted quicker

I spotted some of them right after they started showing up and went through the Mod list til I found Cyber Bishop was online at the time. I PM'd him immediately and continued to try tracking them as they popped up and provide updates. I wish it were feasible to send some kind of a counter-virus to these sites in an effort to counter-act their crap. Their are entirely too many kids on here as well as a number of adults who neither need to see nor want to see this sort of stuff on here.

Thanks for your dilligence CP. Hopefully there is a way to report these individuals for targeting a site known to have children as part of it's member-group. The way in which these threads were set up doesn't strike me as the standard attacks we get normally see from the spam programs but then I am no expert on this sort of stuff. What struck me as unusual is the fact that more info than need be was filled out on the individuals profiles. Why would someone waste one second more than necessary if they were setting up a user account on here just for the sole purpose of spamming for explicit sites? If this is some sick **** trying to bait kids online then may God have mercy on his soul because his a** will belong to me! :-x

Thanks CP!

Yeah, the spambot posts were excessive this time around and were just sick. I didn't click any of the links, but I get the feeling a fair number of kids may have done just as I predicted.

What disgusts me is that they took the time to invade the toy forum and TF general discussion. The 2 most likely areas for kids to go on a clicking spree.

they were in all the forums but the RPG.

even in the help personal problems and philosophers forum. what watching a transsexual granny perform lewd acts has to do with philosophy, is its self a question for the philosophers

Guess you all missed the spambot attack Friday night.

Oh that's right, it's because I took care of it straight away. 8)

I was around this morning for the latest, unfortunately I had to head to work, but today's was certaintly a doozy.

But do us all a favour, simply report the post, do NOT post in them.

Well then, thanks for friday night Burn. The fact that nobody noticed is a testament to just how effectively you performed your duties and it is appreciated. If you were part of yesterdays clean-up crew along with CP (and I imagine a few others) then I'll commend you, and everyone else, again.

I am reminded how there are several people here on the site who would be a lot of fun to watch ATHF with while drinking.

Consider yourself blessed, Rodimus. I didn't click on any of the links (I'm crazy, not stupid) but the titles were such that, well...eewww is all I can say. Gouge your eyeballs out kind of stuff and they were all over the place. Gotta hand it to our Mods for cleaning house and keeping things safe for the kids and the faint of heart and/or stomach. You guys rock and your ability to keep this place a class act is one of the reasons I keep coming back.

The fact that only one other place will have me is the other reason I keep coming back but that's beside the point. :P

Yeah yesterday was an all new kind of spambot, haven't seen the sex ones before.

Got plenty of Russians, we have a regular posting about the latest movie releases (and they only stick to posting in the movie forum) and the good old fashioned viagra alternatives.

The chinese ones are good because they mostly hit when the northern hemisphere is in bed so either Mkall (who really should work on a normal sleeping pattern :P ) or myself deal with 'em.

You read the titles and STILL clicked on the links??? Dude...that's disturbing! That you actually ran the risk of viewing naked geriatric gyration, that's just...damn! The lesbian/farm animal thing is one thing but grannies???? I think I need to step outside and get some air...

I'll sleep when I'm dead, or not doped up on diet coke.

I think we mods really need to keep a score going on how many each we get.
