I personally don't mind the robot designs in all the films, but is it really completely ALL of Bay's fault for how the TFs look? He does have concept artists that worked on the designs, like Ryan Church and Josh Nizzi, and all those other guys.

What I'm more wondering about are how both factions have distinguishable looks, like most of the Cons look like bugs and the Bots more human-like. I'd like to think of the TFs loyalties to their respective factions as being more based on political views, rather than hereditary. But I don't look too much into it, though.

Wheeljack's in DOTM? no offense DevasTTator but couldn't you have left that in the article itself? I was sorta trying to not spoil any DOTM stuff before seeing the movie, and I'm sure some other people are doing the same thing. =L

What's the deal with hair on robots anyway? How did Jetfire have a beard and now what's up with ruining wheeljack's perfectly good G1 head with ...hair!?

Guess we should thank Bay for at least including him in the movie... here's hoping wheeljacks 'prototype' will be the creation, or finding of the dinobots on Earth .. how else will they beat the drill thing?

Hoorah, Wheeljack! I was hoping it wasn't Perceptor or Kup. I really like the Einstein connection, and I can't wait to see what he's like in the film (he must be reasonably important if he's standing next to Prime in the trailer).

Sorry if this spoiled something for you but it's not a big secret that he's in the movie. Unfortunately, the Internet is full of plot spoilers and movie secrets. How is this any different than knowing Shockwave is in the movie? You have watched the trailers, right?

The people who like Wheeljack's head seem to be those fanboys who go along with anything.

I just don't see how anyone can look at that head and say "yeah, that looks great." It is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing Bay has ever created for these movies. Even more ridiculous than the Twins faces and Devastator's wrecking balls.

And if they give him the British accent from the comic? Good grief.

It isn't a great design, but it's different. And that's what I like about it.

Eh his head is OK, I agree it looks goofy and slightly stupid but you can't change Bay's mind now >_<

Shockwave is the main villain of the movie, he's getting a toy, and (like you said) he's in the trailer, though I do see your point, and he is just one character so I shouldn't be too worried.

As for a valid reason for disliking the hair specifically on Wheeljack, refer to my post on page 5... The hair isn't the main problem, its the complete 'Einstein' stereotype thats the problem.

I don't normally weigh in these sort of things, but I think WJ looks ridiculous. I'm not a hater of movie designs and I'm fine with them changing things up, but making him look like Albert Einstein is just too much for me. Oh well, I'll still enjoy the movie and buy the toy.

Wheeljack IS in the newest trailer, in bot mode but sadly for 3 seconds, if that long. I was on Bay's site and viewing the trailer once more and at the 45 second mark, just to the left of Prime, he is standing there. I assume it's Wheeljack as his head, what I can see of it, does look like the cardboard cutouts they used on the BTS pics. He's the same color blue as the car in the images I've seen and probably Bumblebee's height, or near it.

Now i may be ignorant of the movieverse lore, i only know the movies, but do the transformers have generic faces which they change when they choose alt mode.

If not, there is no logic that wheeljack would look like einstein. its a surely to big a coincidence that the genius bot would look like einstein. Unless he was constructed whilst einstein was alive and they chose the face as homage

if they choose their faces after selecting new alt model its childish as stated above.

Its no secert that i'm a big movieverse fan. For the most part i've liked most of the movies's visual portratal of the cast characters. I thik this is because the ones with facial features that have been drasticly changed ( Ironhide, Ratchet, Starscream, etc) have had more "Human like faces" and it was easier to accept their more "robotic" facial features. (at least for me). IN the case of Wheeljack however, i think they missed the mark. HE (like Optimus and Shockwave), had always had a very discinct face whitch in itself was more "alien" than human. I think this would have been a perfect starting platform for which the movie designers to start from. BUt instead they chose to start from scratch. This is a bit disapointing. Oh well. Things change and evolve. Hopefully he has a real purpose and at least does live up to his "Einstien" looks.

Im hoping the film has a Terminatorish vibe, brutal with plenty of killing, real sense of alien invasion. I hear thats what we're going to get so that is a complete turnaround in tone from ROTF so kudos there.
While we're discussing Wheeljacks head, it does indeed look awful. Why even call him Wheeljack when he bears zero resemblance to any previous incarnation? By all means they can put their stamp on it but it just seems to me like the designers are not and were not ever fans. Would they get away with overhauling Spidermans costume or Batmans so radically? No. Just calling something like THAT Wheeljack to shut us fans up does not make it Wheeljack in my eyes. What they're demonstrating with these deigns is that they do not believe in the original characters, they do not recognise them as icons... thats a shame.

Agreed. Good to hear someone else who comprehends the main problem to be had with the movie characters...
Hopefully they pull off a more terminator feel of seriousness... And for those who think I want a super dry movie, Terminator (the first 3) had its share of humour that was mostly situational, not wise cracks... (like Arnold learning to smile haha). Thats a good point. I admit that I haven't followed every incarnation of every popular character, but i'd be curious to just how "true" certain characters have stayed through out 25yrs of TF. And if this isn't the first time a popular character has been drastically changed, then why all the hub-bub now?

which also brings up another question...

What is more important? Characters having recognizable looks, or personality/characterization?

Humanizing the bots is fine, but there's no need to overdo it. IMO, the 2007 movie struck the perfect balance between paying homage to G1 and giving TF's a more unique look. For me, Wheeljack's carbon-copying of Einstein is just too blatant. At least the Twins weren't a direct reference to any famous person.

I have a feeling I'm going to get used to Wheeljack's Einstein look eventually like I did the Twins, but it'll require putting my suspension of disbelief on standby mode.
