I'm pretty much in agreement with you. If you're single and you collect, I'm not saying you should ask your girlfriend’s permission whether you can keep your collection or not, but you probably should know where they stand on that front and any other that could be an issue down the road if you're thinking marriage.

On the other hand, I'm already married and this is pretty much a new hobby for me. As I'm sure everyone on this forum is aware, it's not exactly the cheapest of hobbies so it should probably be cool with her if I'm going to regularly spend hundreds of dollars from our income on toys...toys that can take up a good amount of space. For many people here an entire room!

Do you need to ask for permission to spend 10 or 20 bucks on a toy once or twice in your adult life? No, of course not. But should your spouse be cool with the fact you're spending, I dunno...$100, $200, $300, or more a month on toys and that you're quite likely to take over a room to display and/or store your stuff? Well, that's where I was coming from when I said you maybe shouldn't necessarily be collecting if your spouse isn't supportive of it…

I'm married and I spend quite a bit on TF each month. We both get paid....pay our bills, retirement, etc. and then we each give each other a set amount of spending money for the month. Her money is hers and mine is mine. We each buy what we want with our own money. This way we each avoid scrutinizing one another. Period. Once our own money is gone, it's gone, end of story. We don't go over. This system is like magic for us.

In a nut shell she buy shoes and I buy TF.

I'm not sure how the topic turned to this but I believe we're now talking about partners.

See, this is why I'm enjoying being 17!
Ok, so I don't earn enough to get transformers that often, but hey, I don't need to worry about what my other half thinks about my hobby :P
I have a girlfriend, got together recent actually, yay, & luckily she's cool with my collecting, but even if she wasn't or thought it was stupid like my last girlfriend, it doesn't matter cause their collection of shoes/makeup/blahblahblah is equally as odd to me as my collecting is to them. Yes I know that is a massive stereotype, I don't mean to offend & I'm not saying all girls collect shoes & makeup, I'm just saying that these kind of concepts, having over 10 pairs of shoes for example, are a bit foreign to me as I've never had the need for more than 2.
The only problem I find relationships have on collecting at my age is that I end up being able to spend less on transformers, instead shelling out on romantic dates. :P

If you are in a financial position where you need to hide toys till your next paycheck, you might wanna re-evaluate whether you should be buying toys.

This is one of my pet peeves btw. I HATE having to hunt through the backs of random shelves to find TFs that some juvenile hid away. :-x

what if you're not in a financial position like that?? what if you dropped your wallet, misjudged how much you actually had in your wallet, or took enough for a certain figure but found another one you didnt expect to find that costs more???? just because someone hides it doesnt mean they're waiting on their next paycheck, they could return that same day to get it. For all those that thinks it's "immoral" or immature i'm glad that people will still continue to hide stuff no matter what you say, its just part of collecting, deal with it.

I don't find it to be immoral at all. Stupid? Perhaps. Desperate? Yes. Immoral? No. Most of the people that hide the figures do actually come back and buy them. So no one on the store side of it has lost out really. Sure, another collector or a kid will miss out, but if it's not you hiding it, another collector or another kid will buy it up from those that are complaining. Problem is, people whined about Layaway and said it was foul play as well. No, it was a legitimate service, you *PAID* for it, they held the item, you came back and paid for it in full. You owned it. This is no different except the store doesn't receive a holding fee for doing it. They still end up getting paid for it in the end though.

It's immoral because it keeps *YOU* (aimed at the complainers, not Megatron7) from getting what you want. Let's face it, when you buy it, you're depriving a kid from having a chance at getting it. You're depriving your fellow collectors from having a chance at getting it. See? As long as you're covered, it's okay. Screw the rest, they'll just have to get it on their own if they can. You just got lucky enough to be there before anyone else did.

What's the difference? You paid for it today, right this minute. The hider will pay for it at the end of the day, or the end of the week, but the result's the same. You're deprived of a chance of getting to the figure first, just like you've deprived us. A kid's deprived of a chance of getting to the figure first, just like you've deprived us. Kids and other collectors have done the same thing, countless times to us and one another throughout the history of collecting. It will continue to happen.

You're just upset that someone beat you to the punch.

Deal with it. Quit being so friggin' selfish and move on. The time you spend whining and pining away, you could be looking at other avenues to find your goodies.

"I shouldn't have to." Well guess what bucko? You do. We all do. You're no more special or important than the rest of us. We do the footwork and suffer with the losses just the same as you do. Does it suck? Yeah. Is it fair? Life's not fair.

Yeah, you should have to. We do.

that was some truthful **** right there. 8) Look how many people on this board are looking for 08Bumblebee, and then look at how many people here have them then make comments like, "I found him today and bought 3. One for MISB, one to play with and one for eBay."

You could just as easily complain that another collector from this board went to that same store 10 minutes after you, but since you bought the last 3 08BB's, now the 2nd collector has no chance. Should the 2nd collector get upset?

I've noticed that some of the people that complain the loudest, are also some of the same ones that do the same crap they're complaining about.

Guess I'm just saying I agree with your post. Alot of TF collectors do some cruddy ****, but they're the first ones to howl if they think someones done something cruddy to them.

Karma and all that.

Btw, my GF also has tons of pairs of shoes. Which I completely do not understand. I own 1 pair of boots, and they work fine all year long, year after year. Interesting to see I'm not the only one who has a woman with a shoe fetish.

My girlfriend explained the shoe/clothing fetish.

"You need different pairs of shoes for different occasions. You wouldn't go to a fancy restaurant wearing muddy sneakers with holes in them, would you?" (I love her dearly, but she doesn't know me that well apparently. lol)

I of course agreed with her and she continued: "Beyond that, some need to match what you're wearing. Some are comfortable. Some are just cute. You like TransFormers, I like shoes. It's nothing more important that that."

I have to admit. She makes good points. *shrugs*
