Weapon: Twin Shoulder-Mounted Rocket Launchers
Kup is older, but probably only just!

Definatly Kup. Irohide is closer to being the same age as Optimus where as Kup is probly closer in age to Alpha Trion.

I think they're different kinds of old as well. Ironhide was old in a Kris Kristofferson, "I may be old but goddamn, I'll still kick anyone's ass" kind of way. Kup was old in a wheezing, "I think I'll be checking into hospital and never checking out sometime next week" kinda way.

Actually, I'd say they're about the same age. Both are way older than any of the others, and both are described as being real old-timers. They're also best friends and crotchety old men who like to rib each other about their ages.

Wait what? Didn't Ironhide die at the same time Kup was introduced making it impossible for them to interact with eachother?

Ironhide died when Kup was introduced in the 1986 TF movie..
But in the comics (i.e War Within), they worked alongside each other.

Optronix is correct. According to the DW comics, Ironhide and Kup are very old friends from waaaaaaaaayayyyyyyy back. They even meet up again on Cybertron in War and Peace playfully jibing each other about their ages.

KUP: Springer, my boy-- wait a--
--where'd you dig up that rusty bucket of scrap?

IRONHIDE: Why you broke-down pile of junk!

KUP: Put'er there, Old-Timer.

IRONHIDE: Who you callin' Old-Timer, you secondhand security guard?

I was always under the impression that ol' Ironhide was way younger then Kup. If Anything I think Dream Wave was trying to ride the whole "Magnus is Dion" idea rather then "Ironhide is Dion" idea.

I still think Huffer is Dion.

Anyway the comics allways seem to differ alot from the series. War Within allso shows the Dinobots exsisting on Cybertron but in the cartoon version they were built on Earth.

Likewise Ironhide's cartoon version is around the same age as Optimus Prime. They are after all voiced by the same person and he doesn't do a whole lot to make Ironhide sound older. Kup on the other hand definatly sounds like an old man.

The age of Ironhide compared to Prime has never been established, and his voice does sound older. Just because they were both voiced by Peter Cullen doesn't make them the same age. Ironhide's own bio stated that he was the oldest of the Earth-bound Autobots—old, ornery, slow, and tough as nails. Here's his tech spech bio:

"Go chew on a microchip!", is Ironhide's slogan. Prefers action to words. Oldest, toughest, most battle-tested Autobot. Bodyguard to Optimus Prime. In charge of guarding anything of importance. Gruff, but kind. Trithyllium-stell skin makes him nearly invulnerable to attack. Shoots variety of liquids from supercooled nitrogen to superheated lead. Has sonar, radar, radiowave detector. Slowest and most fragile of the group.

Key word: Earth bound. Also, keep in mind th Transformers on Earth were in stasis for 4 million years, so whilst the Autobots on Cybertron aged, the ones on Earth didn't, thereby making Kup Ironhide's senior (In phyisical age) by 4 million years.

Huffer as Dion... Although I always felt a little sympathy for him.

I thought that Kup was actually far older then that of Prime or Ironhide as a whole. I think he's probably the first group of transformers after Alpha. The only thing about the bio is that it doesn't compare him to prime. It says Autobot, meaning that it's comparing him to the likes of BB and Hound and such, not directly to Prime.

The Earthbound Autobots were in stsis-lock, not stasis. They weren't in stasis pods, which would have placed them in suspended animation and thus slowed aging. They were simply shut down, much like the rest of Cybertron during the Great Shutdown. Thus, their bodies would still have aged. Besides, Kup and Ironhide were already "old men" back during War Within, just not as old. 8)

I keep trying to tell you guys the Tech specs don't match their cartoon counterparts.

Listen to the voice acting. Ironhide might be a little older than Prime (never said they were THE same age I said they were ABOUT the same age) but not as vastly older as the likes of Kup or Alpha Trion.

Kup for all we could have been one of the original Autobots who fought the Quints with A-3 Making him and Alpha Trion appoximately the same age.

The tech specs came first. The cartoon was based on the toys, not the other way around. On top of that, the cartoon doesn't match any of the other continuities either. And, no, Ironhide is not even about the same age as Prime. He is signifiactly older. He is closer to Kup's age, not Prime's. Kup and Ironhide are about the same age. Prime is much younger. Ironhide was not Dion.

Secondly, Kup may be old, but Alpha Trion is absolutely anicent, and is believed to be one of the Original 13 first created by Primus. Kup isn't even close to that age.

Doesn't matter what came first. I never said whitch came first anyway (at least not in this topic) The cartoon personalitys still do not match their tech spec bios.

What "other" contiuities are we talking about vs Cartoon? There's only Cartoon, Tech Specs/Comic, and Novel. Or there's G1/BW/BM, RID, A/E/C, Movie. I'm just not sure what you mean by Continuities here.

G1 itself has multiple continuities, including the original cartoon, Marvel comics, DW comics, toys, IDW comics "reboot", Japanese translation, and their manga versions. And actually, yes, Ironhide's cartoon personality does indeed match his tech spec bio. He's an old, ornery toughbot who has seen and done more than any of the others. The only real difference between him and Kup is he isn't one for talking, whereas Kup loves to tell old war stories. Ironhide is the grizzled old Drill Sergeant, Kup's the kindly old vet.

How does being ornery and tough automatically = old? That's about the only part of his tech specs that actully is true about the cartoon version.

As for his age there's nothing in the cartoon that mentions how old he is, the only clue to guessing his age is his voice which doesn't sound a whole lot older than Optimus'.

Let's just shove this in the pile with "Are Megatron and Galvatron the same person?" and "Were the Constructicon's built, reprogramed, or did they build Megatron?"

Ironhide is a lot older than Prime. Voice is not a measure to go by. His bio is the only thing we can go by, and his bio refers to him as old, much older than any of the other Autobots on Earth.

No, they wouldn't have aged. Their systems had all shut down. Otherwise everyone would've been old and ornery like Ironhide, which they weren't. And Stasis, Stasis lock, same diff, my point's the same, and I don't need correcting when it's clear what I mean.
