Because it's part of the same continuity as the G1 show. You even get to see the autobots asleep in the volcano before they were awoken.

No, its not a prequel or a sequel. It's a time travel adventure that takes place in the same continuity as G1, thats pretty much what it is. I dont think defining it more than that would do it any justice. It's still very much it's own thing.

The characters in Beast Wars come from 300 years after the Great War, the future. But they time-traveled back to prehistoric Earth, the past, where they encountered the Autobots and Decepticons still asleep inside the Ark:

The Great War is Transformers: The Movie, no?

If they're coming only 300 years from the future, that's not that long. The timeline doesn't make sense.

I'm all mixed up.

Yeah, I never really realized that it was only 300 years. For transformers, that is pretty short. Never thought about it.

No, the Great War was the entire "Autobots vs. Decepticons" civil war that lasted for millions of years. Transformers: The Movie was but a single portion of that much larger war.

300 years in the future would mean all the G1 Transformers we know and love would still be the main players.

Transformers live billions of years if not longer.

Can season 3 of the 80's cartoon be considered g2 since a generation is about 20 years?

The real prequel is the KISSPlayers adventure where we see the real form of Vector Sigma.

I don't think it's the best... but I think some of the stuff they did DAMNED well.

Human/Autobot interaction. No ******* hiding. I HATE that. Seeing the Autobots experiencing human culture is always awesome.

The G1 Decepticons were actually, in their own way, frightening. "Let us teach them a lesson in sorrow!"

My headcanon is that hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS died during some of the events. Also, without the Autobts it would take a literal act of God to save us from the Decepticons.

I love the humans. I honestly, honestly love Spike, Sparkplug, Chip, Carly and Marissa. Chip and Sparkplug helped design and build the DInobots. They're automatically cooler than about 80% of all other tf characters. :D

The sense of loss. When Spike sees a ruined city underground on Cybertron and says, "I wonder what this place used to be." Or Fire in the Sky. "And now I must make the change from science to war." Just... damn.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

One of the reasons why the two most recent cartoons are awesome, even if those two still adhere to the "hide from most humans" thing.

I could not get past the look of Beast Wars. Plus I kept wanting to see the old G1 characters.

How did Beast Wars have an episode called "Starscream's Ghost"?

It didn't. The episode's name was "Possession". "Starscream's Ghost" was the name of a G1 episode.

As for the Beast Wars episode, through means unstated, the disembodied spark of G1 Starscream somehow made its way into the past during the Beast Wars and happened upon the Predacon base, in which it first possessed the base's computer and then, for the rest of the episode, possessed the Predacon named Waspinator.

Though, since Chris Latta had passed away by this point, Doug Parker voiced Starscream instead.

Easy. The writer titled it "Starscreams Ghost".

aside from the official standpoint, thats a highly debatable point.

If there would have been no Unicron, no animated movie, no jump forward to 2005, and they would have continued from where season 2 left off (ie. Optimus bringing Ultramagnus to direct the construction of Metroplex and Megatron planning the construction of Trypticon), g1 would have been even better. Trypticon's mouth/jaw looked like the opening/closing door to the Decepticon's headquarters so Trypticon should have been constructed from the Decepticon's underwater spaceship.

I see the point of it being debatable. If we get into the gist of Time Travel, G1 already occured so if a future visitor monkeys (pardon the pun) with the past, they are effectively creating an alternate universe.

Unless their actions in the passed are what we would call a loop in the space time continuum wherebye the actions in the past will eventually lead to the results of the future(?) :HEADHURTS: :BOOM:
