Why does everyone laugh when the credits say "Hasbro"?

Postby Phenotype » Wed Aug 01, 2007 7:23 am

I've seen the movie 3 times now and every time I've seen it people in the theater laugh at the beginning credits when it says "In association with Hasbro". Is there something I'm missing? Why is that funny?

Haha, I laughed at that. I don't know why, I think it was because you don't expect it, you'd expect it to be latter, like at the end, but then, woah! Hahahaha!!! Wonderful ^^

I gave a slight chuckle. I really don't know why. Not use to seeing that sorta thing at the beginning maybe.

I think it might be because we’re not used to seeing toy companies in movie credits.

Also, until people actually see the film after the credits, they automatically think "Haha, this is a kids movie. OMG what am I doing here?" then they see it and they're like "Oh...wow."

Others have actually cheered when they saw it on the big screen, I got a little misty. It wasn't quite how I imagined it, but seeing it for the first time made me realize it was real and I almost had to pinch myself.

I think many people laugh because they know instantly from that credit what the main purpose of the movie is, far as Hasbro's point of view goes :D

i haven't noticed people doing that in during the 2 screenings i had of the movie.

but maybe because people usually associate hasbro with toys, thus surprising them with the slam-bang action of the movie afterwards. 8)

pffft... I cheered as soon as I saw it. And others began to cheer too. :P

And it was prolly funny, cuz its an action/killing movie but with a kiddy toy company associated with it. hehe

For us: it's like when big time Star Wars fans see the Lucasfilm logo come up before a new Star Wars flick.

When I saw the film for the 6 times that I did there was applause and no laughter whatsoever.

They probably laugh for the same reason the GM logo is on the toys.

It's just there way of letting people know that Habro basically is resposible for the transformers merchandice

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the toys started before the show

you're right. They were actually 2 toy lines from Japan, called Diaclone and Microman.

I think it's acceptable people find Hasbro at the start of a film's credits to be amusing. We are talking about a toy company.
I sniggered a little when I saw it for sure, it only proved to me that this film is what it is; a film based on kids toys :D

What interests me is the difference between Hasbro's reaction and comics such as DC and Marvel. I can only assume it's both because comics have been the base of major films for a good while now, and that comics have a generally darker, more serious story-driven narrative which is easily adapted for film. A toyline? I can't think of another film that is based on a toyline :-? *
As this is one of the first, and one of the few, I think it's perfectly natural to find it all funny. To think a toy company could work its way up to mainstream film.

I wonder if over time, like comics, toy-based films can lose the amusement factor and gain a harder edge. Something tells me it's unlikely and probably for the better.

* The only other toys-to-film I can think of are.. Pokemon and the hideous looking Bratz movie. Both do not qualify to improve hopes of a toy-line becoming serious any time soon!

I chuckled for a variety of reasons, all of the listed here.

The Lucasfilm/Marvel/DC -ness of it, and also the fact that many moons ago the person I was watching the film with had looked into to getting Hasbro's shares for us both.

I laughed and pointed out that had we bought them we would now be:

"Minted"

Incidentally who produced the Thundercats? As it looks like we'll be seeing their logo in 2010...
He's got some pretty far-out powers to go along with them, too, including teleportation, the projection of trippy telepathic visions and illusions, and the ability to groove on the language of 98% of all known species. To uses his powers to the fullest, though, he's gotta be feelin' good vibrations; bad karma can seriously harsh his mellow, y'know?

The same thing happened when I was 11, and my dad took me to see TFTM. These kids were bawling when Prime died, and the parents took them and left.

That's a cool way to do it. Ive told people that if you like the stuff so much buy some shares in the company instead. It's shows you are a fan of the product and have something to keep for the nest egg.

Im thinking of getting some Funtastic shares (They own Madman Entertainment) to show how much of a fan Iam. At least the shares are long term and it's not a waste of money.

I don't know if it was the very first but it must have been an early one.

Pokemon wouldn't count as a toy movie as it was originally a video game. Unless one counts video games as toys in which case one would have to include Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter as being earlier examples.
