That's about what it said. Here's a picture of it...

I think this is the first time a big store like Target has put the blame on Hasbro, is it not?
Well, that's about it. Good luck on avoiding the white sign of death!

Hey, that's MY sign!!!!
I made that for my Toy Department at the Target in Clermont, FL. Not because I was sick of people asking or blaming Hasbro per se, but just so people were informed of WHY we didn't have anything to sell.
The info we received was that Hasbro sold 3 MILLION units in less than 60 days, and had depleated their available stock to send to retailers. They estimate mid-October as our replinishment time frame, but may have merchandise sooner.
The Jazz and Starscream are NOT affected, because they are a specially ordered Exclusive, and have set production runs that are already completed and shipping or have shipped to Target's DCs and some stores....as you can tell by all the folks using DPCIs to get them early.
The Endcap that has Jazz and Starscream is due the week of the 26th. Some stores set early, some a few days later depending on their workload and amount of Team Members scheduled. We have about 24 Endcaps all due the 26th, so it depends on which end of the toy department they start setting on, and whether they have a good percentage of the merchandise to set the Endcap or not. Execs and District Managers HATE half empty Endcaps, because they are prime real estate.
Stores have -0- control of what they get in stock. Toy Managers, our Execs, even our Store Manager has any control over it. All stores have a minimum ON HAND set by Corporate, and all orders are AUTO REPLINISHED. When you see Team Members scanning pegs and putting grey dots out, they aren't "ordering". They are checking what the system says is ON HAND. If there is nothing on the pegs, they key zero to update the system, in case it missed something going through the checklanes, affecting the count. If it shows there are on hands, and nothing is on the pegs, it creates a batch to pull them from Backstock. As long as they are properly scanned into a location, they come out in a pull and are stocked. Having Team Members pull from the backroom can also mess up the counts and cause more problems. If they subtract the wrong amount, or take without subtracting, it screws up the system, and can delay shipments, too. That's another reason they are cracking done on checking the backroom so often. Some stores flat out refuse, others are a little more cool about it. My store is kinda in between. I usually pull stuff for people if I have it, but alot of my Team Members don't because they either are authorized to (you have to be trained) or are clueless about Toys in general, not just TFs.
Now that I've written a novela here...if there are any more questions, I'll be glad to answer them. I am NOT acting as an OFFICIAL TARGET REPRESENTITIVE in anyway, but I will share as much info as I am allowed...as long as you guys are cool about it and don't start bashing...otherwise, I'll just shut my piehole and keep the info to myself.

BTW, to the guy that took the pic of my sign, "Autobot Servo", I work tomorrow, Thurs & Friday mornings 8-430. Come by and I'll grab a Jazz and Starscream out for you if you come introduce yourself...unless I already know you....do I?

Ok so you have gotten official word that they are short on deluxes. Then as far a shortage on deluxes goes I was wrong. This was offical from Hasbro, right? Is mid October for the holiday season, or just when they will have more? Is this coming from the Target warehouses as far as more stock or Hasbro itself? As far as the scanners go, it worked a bit different where I was than how you described, but the principle is similar.

Great to have inside perspective into how these things work. Seems crazy that things are so computerized that they can't even have someone override the system, and can have something in the storeroom, and a customer who wants to buy it, and yet no one's authorised to get it for them.

I'm sure there's reasons for it, but it seems crazy.

Hey! Thanks for the information! I don't think I'll be able to get down there on those days but Thanks SO much though! I am so glad to know that it might be there on the 26th, and I'll try and get it. Thanks again so much for clearing this up! Great to know that somebody here at my target knows what's going on. Again, many thanks, and keep up the great work!

Well now. That does indeed prove that there is a shortage. I will be fair to Hasbro and admit, three million is quite a feat and is definitely possible given the momentum of the movie.

So, they screwed up, it happens. It just wouldn't have killed them to come right out and say... "To the public: We would like to inform you that there is a shortage of the TransFormers movie line figures. We were unable to foresee the massive demand that the toys have called for and haven't been able to fill our orders. We are working on the problem at this time and we will have product for the shelves for the Christmas season. Thank you for your understanding, and we appreciate your business."

It wouldn't hurt their rep, we wouldn't be angry, and all of our fears would be addressed and dealt with.

But no, they didn't do that. We had to have second hand information from a source leak to get the info we all knew, all along. Ridiculous. You don't run a business that way.

Other companies have had shortages and came out and said "We can't meet the demand right now, please accept our sincerest apologies" etc...

I do understand their plight, I don't understand why they couldn't stand up and admit they miscalculated.

And as such, I (and everyone else if they so feel) have every right to be absolutely angry over this.

Why don't we all just be patient because Hasbro is evidently working on rectifying the situation?

I can understand being frustrated about not finding movie toys, but being outraged and angry over it is just pointless. They didn't do it to slight any of us.

Being angry over this situation is going to net you absolutely nothing except probably raised blood pressure unless you plan to do something productive with it. Is being angry going to make Hasbro release toys faster? No. It sucks but you know what? Life goes on. There's far more things in life to get worked up over than Hasbro misjudging their demand.

Well I wouldn't really call it a plight. They're moving stock like never before, raking in a fortune.

But depending on the politics of upper management, admitting to the shortage might seem like revealing a weakness. You make hay while the sun shines, and in this situation it could look like they're squandering one of their biggest ever opportunities. I'm sure you can imagine why it'd be in their better interests to be reporting record sales, rather than reporting how they misjudged the demand.

See that's the thing though. Being it is a shortage, Hasbro should have said something out the gate. Sitting on it actually makes alot of people look bad. But oh well, what can you do now. What's done is done.

They could've at least addressed the situation. Leaving us wonder for so long was ridiculous.

I'm not angry about the shortage. That happens, it's reasonable given what happened with the movie. I'm angry about being left in the dark and causing a bunch of conspiracy theories.

Which tells me I was right, they're cashing in on the hysteria, and when the toys finally hit, they're gonna disappear off of shelves like you wouldn't believe. I have no doubt we're going to continue to have problems finding the figures we want.

The Bumblebee fiasco is far from over. It might change the name of the figure in the situation, but the same thing will happen.

And you think if Hasbro had come out a couple weeks ago and said "We have no more toys til October" that everything left in the stores wouldn't absolutely disappear (yeah, there are some things showing up here and there), and suddenly ebay prices wouldn't jump another 50 to 100%? At least since nobody officially knows what's going on, rumors swirl. Once they confirm the worst, it'd get even more messy. And then there really would be some pissed off consumers out there.

This reminds me of the same situation, opposite way around: when Sony was denying that PS3's were sitting idly in stores, unbought, early this year.

Conversely, Hasbro won't confirm that Transformers are selling so well, they can't keep up.

Kudos to anyone who sees why the underlying strategy is similar.

The drought may soon be over.

The DCs are showing ON HANDS now, and alot of stores are Pending Leader, Deluxe and Scouts.

My store got 1 case of (2) BRAWL Leaders this morning, and 1 case of Deluxe with Recon Barricade, 08 BB, Battle Jazz, Dreadwing, Payload, Longarm and Dropkick. Dreadwing is (2) per case, the rest are (1) per.

We also got (1) case of (2) Ultimate BB for the Endcap.

When I left, there was a Battle Jazz, Recon Barricade and Dreadwing still on the pegs.

There are a couple thousand pending with another crapload on order of the deluxes. Mind you, this is only 1 DC, and Florida alone is serviced by 3.

Keep checking those stores, the mid-October date given may be when the expect to have all orders FILLED.

TF toy isle status update

Postby texan_eagle_scout » Fri Sep 28, 2007 2:27 pm

This morning at my local Walmart I noticed that the TF isle was jammed. Finally! They have been bare since what May?

There were several of the Meantime, and HighScore100, old bumblebee, and baricade. The had 2 both paint version of Rachet. The pins were filled to the point things were falling off just looking at them.

The Ultimate Bumblebees aren't moving though. They have had them since the release. Maybe it has something to do with the $80(US) pricetag.

Still bare here. I had lunch with my gf while she was working at WM today, and checked hers. Nothing. We skipped over to Target while she was still at lunch, and they had nothing. And I start my WM job tomorrow morning so I'll check there. Been empty here since around mid July I'd say. Managed to get all my important figures early on, so I've not been feeling the major hurt, but from the stores, I can tell others probably are around here.
