They're not really brothers. It's called a figure of speech.

Prime called Megatron his brother because he was reaching out to him to end the fighting.

Not true. It was stated by the movie creators that Megatron and Optimus were meant to be brothers, but that when the scene played itself it seemed more like Optimus was making a gesture rather than stating a fact.

Twins would mean that they look the same either with the same design and thus have the same abilities and twins are often thinking the same way, feel the same way and this was not the case obviously with prime and megatron.

I was going to respond to that, but it seems that someone went into the technicalities of this. I didn't mean in terms of physical identity as such. I was trying to think of a way to explain their co-ruling as such. Perhaps both were created at the same time to be the co-rulers of Cybertron. In such a case, neither is older or younger unless you want to get technical with the idea that on was created seconds before the other, or whatever.

Optimus just seems older. (Perhaps it's Peter Cullen's voice?) Otherwise I like the idea that they are around the same age.

It was implied somewhere that Prime was more a guardian of sorts, like supreme court/congress in one, while Megatron was the executive type, which sort of suits them.

If I had to guess, I'd say Megatron is elder. I flow with the "bigger" argument, and Optimus might be the ethical one (he really is a greek stoic after all) having been able to watch his older brother's fall from grace.

We're talking about before his death.

Megatron is definiately the younger. How do I know this? Because I'm the eldest of 3 and all older brothers know that the youngest is made out of pure concentrated evil. I wouldn't be surprised if Megs broke Alpha Trion's Highschool football trophy and blamed it on Optimus while he was in his room reading a magazine.

Personally I think Optimus is the elder twin/brother. Mostly because he never struck me as being inferior to Megs except when it came to sheer physical strength. Also, just something in his manner screams "firstborn".

Megatron, however, strikes me as the petulant, selfish younger sib. And I know from experience since I admit that I can be very selfish and petulant at times.

The Mosaic "Dark Visionary" seems to also support Prime being the older bro.

And about all this "little bros are the evil bros" talk, that's not always true. At a young age, my older brother was the one making my life miserable, always teasing me, pestering me, bothering me, putting me down, I counldn't stand him. At that time, he was the evil bro, not me.

But he's grown up now and matured much, to a point where he thinks I shouldn't be "wasting my money on toys".

Didn't you read what I wrote after that?

Besides, he's with the rest of my family being against me in buying Transformers toys. Basically, I'm alone on my side here, and am trying to find ways to stil be able to buy them.

On topic, the mosaic "Dark Visionary" seems to imply that Megs is younger cuz in that one, Prme seems to be the wiser one and is trying to look after his brother & keep him from going down a path of darkness. Yet, we know he fails.

I think Optimus Prime is the oldest. Megatron displays characteristics of a younger brother who is constantly in his elder brothers shadow. He wants to break free from his family and create his own identity. Optimus Prime being loved by all the inhabitants of Cybertron would have gotten to Megatron and this feeling of inferiority led him to create the Decepticon regime and finally ended with him asserting his identity with war on his older brother. Megatron would want to show that his "glorious" brother wasn't as special as people thought he was. Unfortunately for him his arrogance led to his down fall.

Also, Optimus Prime states the autobot mission on earth is to get the Allspark before Megatron not to defeat Megatron. Prime still feels (probably unspoken) that Megatron could be turned back and it is his duty as the elder brother to at least try. It goes as far to him being willing to sacrifice himself to stop Megatron's plan and keeping his brother from destroying another world.

Just my thoughts.
