The only reason they were able to take Megaupload down is because they had a couple of servers based in the US. Otherwise US authorities wouldn't have been able to touch them.

In that case all they would have had to do was ask the German government to help them, which they would have done.

The company was based on Hong Kong, and though it's founder was German, he lived in New Zealand. And yeah, they both helped when asked by the US Department of Justice.
