I've been wondering and trying to search on the net about the 'art history' on both the Autobots and the Decepticon Insignia, couldn't find anything, so I'm hoping, does anyone have some source regarding the creation of the insignias, whether by artist or via plot? Like why are the insignias specifically drawn like that, (imo) an Autobot insignia somewhat represents a shield and a decepticon symbol somewhat represents a crown. Hope for some answers and opinions

- Motto: "This is your end."
- Weapon: Quasar Cannon
To my understanding, the Autobot insignia is a representation of Primus
And while the Decepticon one resembles Soundwave, I have no idea what inspired the design.

This has been posted before. Basically the history behind the creation of the Decepticon symbol, was based on Soundwave's face. The Autobot symbol was losely based on Prowl's. Why those particular ones were chosen by the artists is not known.

well, I think the stories have been mentioning about how the last autobot and stuff have the autobot insignia as a face. So it must represent protectors of Primus or something. As for the decepticons since Soundwave's face looks like the symbol, i personally have always seen it as that he is paying homage to his "family" perhaps who were the first 'cons. Or that he love the decepticon's ideas very much. But that is just my opinion.

I allways thought the Decepticon symbol looked like Soundwave because originally he was going to be the Decepticon leader but the idea was scraped and Megatron was placed as leader insted.

They were probably the figures that the artist liked the most.
Prowl is an odd choice for the Autobot logo to be based off, but it still turned out pretty good imo.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

I don't think so. The Prowl mode was used for a few autobots, much like the seekers. Maybe Prowl was going to be leader at some point...

That would have made Prowl very happy, being able to direct and have complete command
