Hasbro! The entire point of the Siege line was to be about the cast of G1 before they leave Cybertron and go to Earth, so everyone in that line had Cybertronian altmodes that predated the ones they would later take upon their arrival on Earth.Sowndwave76 wrote:But who intended the Siege version to be Cybertronian?

The whole War For Cybertron Trilogy was supposed to be a narrative journey across three toylines, with Siege having the characters on Cybertron before they go to Earth (thus having pre-Earth Cybertronian altmodes), Earthrise having the journey and ultimate arrival on Earth (thus having Earth altmodes plus the alien Quintessons, whom they they would encounter during the voyage to Earth), and Kingdom having the war renewed on Earth (thus having more Earth altmodes, plus Beast Wars as part of that series's 25th anniversary).
Saying that the Siege toys aren't G1 just because they don't turn into Earth vehicles is like saying the Origin Bumblebee and Origin Jazz toys aren't G1 because they turn into a mini-saucer and a hover shoe, respectively. There is no way that G1 Ultra Magnus would have turned into a 1980s White Freightliner WFT-8664T cabover semi-trailer truck back on Cybertron four million years before he ever first came to Earth.
Apparently, for two reasons. One being that IDW2 Nacelle uses the Siege mold design, so it's accurate to that look (even though it completely misses the whole point of why the original Nacelle toy was even made in the first place).Nemesis Destron wrote:Man why in damnation didn't![]()
choose the Earthrise Thurst mold for Nacelle instead of that stupid Siege mold.
It would have been the better choice IMO.

Thurston Howell III, of course. "The millionaire" from Gilligan's Island.Till-all-R1 wrote:I don't recall ever seeing "Thurst" who's he?

I for one am digging this commander UM and all I can say more is bye-bye Kingdom.

CW Magnus (2015)
Seige (2019)
Kingdom (2021)
Studio (now)
Not including recolors. There's always a chance you could have gotten the Netflix or a platinum release or one of the many Magnii clogging the shelves. As a guy following along I'm Magnused out. I'm glad we're getting the last word on the character because I'm done with him after this. I should feel more excited for Magnus than this. I felt excited for Kingdom Roddy. Instead I feel burnt out. Kingdom should never have been made. Or maybe, I just shouldn't have been dumb enough to get him.

I'd also like a Thrust reissue if anyone is reading this..

I think a lot of this is perspective... Almost 9 years removed, I wouldn't even count the CW version at this point. And that's not me saying I think it's a horrible figure. It's not.
Then consider how similar the Siege and Kingdom versions are. While there are of course differences, minus paint apps at first glance they are so close in appearance.
Relative to this newest version, they're basically the same figure.
So of that list, there are two "versions" that are from the recent past... I'll never consider a SG figure a G1 version. Because they're not.
I mean, I guess it would make a difference if the ER version never happened.

Gauntlet101010 wrote:It depends on how long you've been collecting and what you've bought and why you bought it.
For me I wanted the best version of this character. Yeah, CW is 9 years ago, but (again, I must emphasize) for me it leads to burnout on this character. Each release is a small step closer to the toy I'm looking for while not quite getting it right, but each time I think "okay, I guess they'll stop and this one is good enough". Which is frustrating. But maybe this time they will stop. This looks like it's finally the final word. No off putting cab or weird vehicle mode overall, not too small in vehicle mode either. Just a solid, G1 style Ultra Magus. Finally.
You may consider Kingdom and Siege to be the same release, but there's enough retooling there to make it different. Certainly Siege never presented itself as purely G1 as Kingdom had. If we're not gonna see eye to eye on it being different enough to be considered a different release, fine, but you may as well say that about all the Siege retools (and there were many of those). I also don't think it changes a thing on my greater point. It's just quibbling about my the title of my list.
You'll note I didn't list the SG, Netflix, Platinum, or Legends releases of UM. Because those are too difficult to get normally or substantially different to not be a "main" UM. I actually have SG Magnus and felt really good about that release. Which had me re-evaluate my so-so feelings on the mold as a whole.
Sowndwave76 wrote:And don't get me wrong, I get that designing these figures based on established characters, that designers are going to go back to the well, so the bot mode definitely resembled the G1 character.
But Cybertronian still isn't necessarily G1. Again, the evidence is the ER version.
Sowndwave76 wrote:I don't know why I have to say this again, but if it (the Siege figure) were truly a G1 UM, the ER version wouldn't exist, and this new CC version wouldn't exist now, and maybe not ever.

What's this "ER" version separate from Siege and Kingdom?Sowndwave76 wrote:Just to clarify, I don't see Siege and Kingdom Magnus figures as the same.
But no would argue that one is a retool of the previous version.
Imo the "ER" version doesn't quality as a heavy retool, so they are very similar.
Especially in overall proportions and appearance.

Sowndwave76 wrote:Going back to perspective, it's interesting that SS86 Ratchet is being released just a year after SS86 Ironhide... And no one is complaining.
And Ratchet did get a SG figure whereas Ironhide did not...
So it's just a bit odd that for some reason, literally 1 year seems to be making a difference in the case of Ratchet.
