Well, it's interesting (to me), that Springer is as tall as OP, and so Magnus is taller than both, according to the character scale guides I've seen.
But, when you see Springer and Magnus together in some of the scenes from the movie, Magnus looks more than a half-head taller than Springer.
All of this said, I think we all probably should be a bit more open to slight exceptions to scale.
And when I say "we", I'm saying this for myself as much as I am to anyone else.
One aspect that makes a toy good for me is the figure's proportions, as well as how they scale with other figures. So I'm trying to shift my mindset that scaling amongst figures isn't so important.
I'm attaching a few images where what's seen on scene is imo substantially off from what was seen in the movie... Sorry about the poor quality of the screen shot; but you can see enough to get the point.
According to the scale charts, Megatron is clearly taller and bigger than Soundwave.
(Not pictured), but I can remember these two being much closer to the same in stature in the cartoon. What I am showing is the movie scene where Soundwave is carrying Megatron to Astrotrain.
Not that this scene makes him look bigger than Megatron, but they look to be at least the same size.
Yes, I'm taking into consideration foreshortening of Megatron's position.
But with this in mind, you'd think Megatron's head, torso, and arms would be larger.
The other example that stood out to me is Arcee and Springer... The scale chart compared to the movie scene still I've attached... And it's seen this way multiple times in the movie where they're basically 1 head apart in height... Obviously the toys seem guided by the scale charts.
But again, if Springer is as tall as Prime, these movie scenes have Arcee have her way too tall.
Do I personally think Magnus should be much taller than Grimlock in toy-form?
No.
I'd say if they were the same height I'd be good with that.
The overall look and quality of this new UM will help me look past smaller nit-picky things, but for me, it will be slightly unfortunate if Magnus is much taller (or stout) than Grimlock and the Dinobots.
Not the end of the world by any means. Just observations.
