So one is only creative if one's stories have little or no basis in reality? No offense, but that definition seems a little shallow.

Moreover, Transformers have been "transforming" the same way for the last few decades. How is that creative? Where I come from, that is called "milking it". See, as much as I like the classic style of the cartoons, I'm excited about the new movie because *MAYBE* it will be a new and fresh take on the transformers (albeit with some questionable designs). Or maybe not. We wont know until it comes out.

I think this is a matter of perspective. I'm sure plenty of people will look at Transformers and think it's childish whereas some of you are looking at Die Hard and thinking it's mindless action. I'd like to keep this topic on track and limit the Die Hard versus Transformers conversations. That's not what this thread is about.

Fair enough. I guess since you can ban me, i'll go along with that. Joking of course.
I'm afraid about what you said about being distracted by that "mouth" the whole movie. You saw it first hand, would you be able to look at it for 2 hours?

The good news, in defense of the movie folks, is that Prime will have a face shield during some scenes in the movie. At least he will have it, regardless if it's ridiculous that there are some scenes where he doesn't have the face shield.

I thought it looked bad in February. It was very distracting to me since I was expecting Prime to look a certain way. Picture Darth Vader with an opening for his mouth or a yellow Spiderman. It just doesn't look right and I don't know why people think that we should accept anything less for the Transformers than we do for the superhero movies.

I really hope he is fighting most of the movie. I totally agree that we should not accept anything less than a true adaptation( or as close as they can get it). It seems changing things that much, blurrs the whole reason they are making a movie about it anyway.

"Fresh take" always seems to be used as a get-out when the new designs take a beating.

I have the distinct impression that this could go either way. I almost feel like they're setting all of this up so that if the movie is a success, they won't need to do those things because "they were right." If the movie bombs or receives poor reviews, I have a feeling they will definitely make changes to the final product for the DVD version to make the movie more appealing to the fans. There is no question in my mind that the movie will ultimately be profitable between the movie and the DVD sales. It's all about the "spin".

I read somewhere recently that Hasbro is going to push for some more classic designs in the sequel. I really hope that happens,as the movie coming out this summer now holds little appeal to me anymore.

F that guy, whining is our God Given Right, and pretty much the only way we as a consuming fan base can tell you stop F___ing It Up!!!

If it wasn't for whining, so many events in human history would never have taken place. Yes man can do anything, but man would never do a thing if it wasn't to stop something anoying.

Bitching makes the world go round!

I hope you are planning on going to see this movie though. I don't see the point in boycotting it or anything like that, which some people have mentioned. I definitely want to support the hobby and I ultimately want to support the movie. The issues I bring up are ways I feel the movie could be improved to make it better and more of a success OR the issues are ones that have feel would have little impact on whether or not my co-workers or family enjoy the movie but have a huge impact on OUR enjoyment of the movie. A lot of these changes just seem like changes that people who aren't big into Transformers would make.

I hope that this is true. Classic designs FTW. I really hate messing with icons. Heck, even the new 'black costume' from Spider-Man 3 makes me mad (the Alien Costume is a legend!)...

That would be nice to see, but if the movie does'nt do well, it certainly will not get a budget like that of the first film, or god forbid, no sequel at all. I just don't want to see TF Cybertron level CGI in the sequel. That would definately kill the movie series. I'm disgruntled they did'nt take advantage of bringing(as i read someone say before) japanese style mecha to the big screen with a budget and CGI tech that could have looked real, and have been somthing that would satisfy more of the fans.

Thanks, mate. And I know I've said it before, but your ink OWNS. :PEACE:

I want there to be a sequel or at least another movie with recognizable TFs, but I don't want to encourage the choices made in this movie... Now I'm not sure what to do! I guess I might just have to buy a movie figure to show my support, or something.

You just can't take characters that mean a great deal to an enormous amount of people the world over and just change their look outright. Case in point, how in all the 9 realms is a tweaked-out robo-chicken Srarscream supposed to look that much better than a live-action G1 Starscream??
I believe that a look that translated well to live action, yet still retaining the general appearance of the original characters could have been pulled off. The first X-men film did a great job of this. Yes, they weren't wearing bright-tights, but we all could easily recognize the characters.
I think the movie Optimus came close to this, but the mouth thing just seems to typify the whole issue here of there being a lack of genuine respect for the source material.

Great! Now Optimus Prime has moving metal lips to bad mouth what Bay has done to both him and this film.

I should point out that it's just a messageboard rumour, nothing to be taken as fact, although I hope Hasbro do try and do something this time.

It's not a boycott or anything, just a personal choice at this point. I've pretty much run out of patience and tolerance for the changes they're making.

Totally agreed. There's even a number of talented fans that have produced some great concepts that look a hell of a lot better than what I've seen from Bay. There was a nice G1/movie fusion concept of Prime posted here a couple of weeks ago that I would have been delighted to see in the movie for example.

Yeah, i've seen some really good fan designs that would have looked way better than what these guys came up with. Why is it that the untalented people get the jobs that should be filled with talented people? At this point, i think some of those "fake" test shots look better and more likely to be a transforming alien robot from space. By the way, where is that fan Prime you mentioned?

Dumb! I don't have to like ANY of Michael Bay's decisions now OR later. I really dislike Bay, and I don't usually say that about people I've never met. I've never enjoyed one of his movies--never! His choices for this film have been almost universally bad. Moreover, I can't believe all the toadies on this site! I would've thought you yes-men would have grown tired of polishing this man's apple by now, but I didn't have to look further than the first post to be treated to the wisdom of you Bay sycophants. [Oh, Michael, you're so kewl! Can I kiss you? Oh, Michael, you're the greatest director in the whole world! I own all you're movies. Would you autograph my chest please?!] Cripes! You Bay-lovers sicken me.

This is why i hate when they try to use an already exsiting franchise to make a new movie. They might as well make Batmans suit blue in the next movie. And Make venom purple. As soon as they said Bay ws directing i knew crap like this was going to happen. Sure he makes good action movies but unless the are made the way he wants them they dont get made at all. They said that it was going to be based around the G1 shows. But all we got was another frakin spin off like evrey TF show that has been on since Beast Wars. At least BW took place in the same univers as G1. Evrey other show has just been a new rehash. This is going to be a kick ass movie but its just another crappy TF retelling. For the next movie we need a new director and to forget the plot of this movie. Keep some of the designs but give us the TF icons back. Give Prime his mask, Make Bumblebee a small scout bot, Make Megatron And Starscream look like Megs and Screamer, paint Ironhide red and make Ratchet an ambulance. Give us true fans something to be proud of. The X-Men fans have the first 2 movies, The spiderman fans have all 3 movies, Hell even the Batman fans have Batman Begins. And what do we TF fans get? A slap in the face and people saying "get use to it becaue its not changing." At this point i fear for the GI Joe movie.
