Did anyone see this from the article:Michael Bay also stated that it takes them something like 38 hours to render 1 frame of the film with the robots in it.
38 hours for 1 frame? There's either very few frames with robots in it or else Bay needs to get moving quickly if he wants to make deadline.
I'm thinking that has to be a misprint. I don't care if you have a million poly model it's not going to take that long to render a single frame. 38 minutes? Yeah that's understandable.

Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...
Goddammit, now I can't unsee it.

So Micheal Bay has made a pretty film? I truly did not see that coming. I am interested in the dialogue, characterization, story etc.
The Autobots interaction intrigues me. As for the designs and how they work in live action. I am very excited to see how that plays out. Describe how they talk if you can Ryan.
Thanks.

38 hours doesn't sound too unreasonable when you consider how much detail is involved.

Truely.
I'm just waiting for people to start claiming Bay/Hasbro/Dreamworks/whoever paid of TFW, Ryan, and whoever else to give positive word of mouth.
Alex Kingdom wrote:From what I have read on other sites I don't think this review is going to change my opinion of this movie. I have always expected it to look spectacular, the effects to be awesome and the action to be breathtaking. However since I head Bay was directing it I have also always expected it to have a lame story with generic characters filled out with pathetic crappy (unfunny) low brow humour. None of what I have read elsewhere suggests any thing different from what I have suspected all along.

Well said. I concur.

I for one enjoy the occasional low brow comedies. Not all the time, but every once and a while they are good for a chuckle. As for Bays smash mouth exposive style, I like explosions. I hope they are plentiful. I don't care if 38 minutes or 38 hours went into it, as long as it looks good. Can't wait to hear what Seibertron has to say of it. Good or bad, I'll be seeing the movie myself to judge it.

Yeah, it does. At 38 hours per frame, ILM have enough time between now and the movie's release date - not counting time needed to edit the final product and ship it to theatres - to render a little less than 4 seconds of one effects shot.
If we imagine that effects shots with the robots make up a total of 20 minutes of film - which I think is a pretty conservative estimate - that's nearly 30,000 frames, or 1,094,000 hours of render time. That's 125 years! Either ILM are running a massively parallel render farm to the tune of seven or eight thousand simultaneous frames - and while I'm sure that ILM have a pretty damn good setup, given that rendering effects is their business, I'm not inclined to believe that they are - or the article (or Bay) got the numbers way wrong.

Low brow comedy apparently sells in the country...isn't Reno 911:The Movie a prime example of that? Police Academy? The Naked Gun Trilogy? How much low-brow comedy is in Raiders of the Lost Ark? "Asps. Very dangerous. You go first."
The important thing is that the comedy isn't too complicated for the target audience. With the amount of toy production going into this movie, you know they will be aiming for a younger market than us old geeks; you don't want the humor to be over kids' heads...you want them to have fun. As a kid, laughter is often equated with fun. To be honest, the thought of a dog peeing on Ironhide's foot is a little weird but kids will love it- they usually do. Anyone remember the Futurama episode where Bender hocked his body and he offered the dog sniffing his head $5 not to do what he was thinking about doing...then hearing Bender chuckle "heh heh heh, you just lost $5.." It was hilarious...
I lost my train of thought...

Have you even read IDW comics? What about Beast Wars/Machines?

tile_mcgillus wrote:It seems what we have hear a completely different set of expectations. I think the difference between what we want makes it seem like we are disagreeing all the time (by "we" I mean everyone). We really just want different things from this film.
I am a purist who demands respect for the source material and quality writing. I believe that could and should translate into a classic film.
That is why I seem so disappointed in this film, because of what it could have been.
If you are happy with explosions, low brow humour and cool special effects then more power to you (there is nothing wrong with that either). But it doesn't please me and leaves me unfulfilled.
I am just refusing to change my expectations. Stubborn, I guess.
To prove how low brow I am (and beleave me, I laugh at almost anything) I actually want to see Reno 911: Miami and laughed out loud at work when I read the part about the Aps. I mean loud, it was good.Firstaid wrote:Low brow comedy apparently sells in the country...isn't Reno 911:The Movie a prime example of that? Police Academy? The Naked Gun Trilogy?
