Awww, the original show had that stuff? It's disappointing they didn't put that into this set. Oh well, I bought it and I'm psyched with it! This is easily one of my top-5 cartoons ever...and I didn't even grow up with Beast Wars. I was 20-23 when this show was out.
Man, I watched Beast Wars religiously on its original airings and I totally don't remember it even having bumpers. Were they animated like the G1 ones or just the Beast Wars logo from the opening sequence with a voice over?

Dr. Heavy B wrote:does this set: A) Have the original longer season 1 opening B) Have the original season 3 opening that isn't basicly a copy/paste of season 2
I didn't realize there was a longer Season One intro. The episodes on Season One have the shorter intro (didn't go through all of them so there could be one random episode with an extended opening). Season Two and Three have their own openings.
I believe what he was asking was if Season 3 had it's opening sequence from the broadcast run of the series, which had at the beginning some original, not recycled from the first episode, footage of Axalon and the Pred ship before they crashed. Or does it have the same opening sequence that was on the Rhino sets, which did not have that original animation at the beginning?

The Rhino set had interviews with Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio and a film Bob Forward made as a kid with Season 1. Season 2 had nada. Season 3 and the animatic from Nemesis, Part 2 and a low-res version of the deleted scene (Meg's spark).
In addition to the aforementioned commentaries on three episodes, beast machines also had interviews with Marv Wolfman, Robert M Skir, David Kaye and Susan Blu

Actually I do remember the first one now, I can hear Gary Chalk's voice in my head. it was just a voice over with the logo though I think.
But was the second one? It was Optimal Optimus and Cheetor, but was it also just a voice-over or just clips from that dialogue. obviously the first part: "More exciting action. […] With your favorite 3D Transformers." was an announcer…

Bummer. I liked those. They were simple, yet had a certain charm to them.

(*puts on professor's glasses and speaks in a Harvard accent*) Back when the season 1 episodes first aired on TV, the opening sequence was the typical 30-second long version used on most of the DVD releases. But when season 1 aired in reruns on other stations, a different, 1-minute long version aired instead. (*switches back to normal persona*) Personally, I liked this longer one better.

I think what Dr. Heavy B was specifically asking is if the season 3 intro was the correct one, instead of the one that borrows some footage from the season 2 intro.
Here's the correct season 3 intro:
And here's the wrong one used by the Rhino DVDs:

Interesting. I didn't know that.
However, that Beast Machines set was released by Rhino instead of Shout! Factory. So, there's no telling what Shout! would do.
Though, the 20th Anniversary DVD release of the 1986 G1 movie by Sony had at least two different audio commentary tracks. But, again, that was Sony instead of Shout!.

I'm trying to find them on YouTube, but no one's got them.
They're on my recorded VHS tapes, though.

Season 2 had the original character models that were carried over into this new Shout! Factory set.

The second one was a closing montage of season 1 clips that played at the end of every episode (even the post-season 1 episodes) right before the final commercial break before the end credits.
Also, while searching on YouTube, I found the reason why there exists both a long and a short version of the season 1 intro. The long version was created for reruns becuase the first-run broadcast of season 1 was part of a programming block that required its theme song run time be cut in half. What was this programming block, you say? Well, those who grew up on Beast Wars, brace yourselves for nostalgia!

Interesting. I wonder if that was a market by market thing because I know at least for the first season in Bozeman, MT it was Reboot followed by Beast Wars and then the Saturday morning block of cartoons began -- they were kind of the red-headed step-children, at least at first. I think Reboot was at 6am, possibly 5am. All I know is I had classes all week and worked and it was a pure love of those shows that got me up that early…
