Another alternative is to make sure the peg is long enough so that you can drill into the gun and insert part of the peg inside it.

Finger tip drills! Primarily they're used for cleaning the tips of welding guns, so you'll find them in an industrial hardware store. Great little things to have. Won't damage the plastic, and if it damages your fingers, then you should probably stay away from sharp objects entirely.
