So who here did the 180 (skeptic to hopeful)?

Postby Versa » Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:23 pm

Just was curious here to see if anyone did the same thing as me...

So back in November when the first trailer came out I thought it was the most horrible piece of garbage preview I have ever seen. I hated all the developments coming in from the designers on the vehicles and what was going to be who etc. It just sounded like this film was going to be trash.

The second trailer comes out and again... a bit of a disappointment. Well kinda big disappointment. Focused more on the people than the robots and they just didn't show much of anything. I was still peeved about Optimus and Bumblebee's look. AND NO TRANSFORMING SOUND?! AAGH!!! I was about ready to put it on my list of don't see movies.

The final trailer comes out... HOLY CRAP! Okay, so the designs aren't entirely what I was hoping in terms of the transformers, but they were starting to look pretty damn good on camera and in action. The first wonderful thing I noticed was the spectacularly done transforming shots as well as FINALLY HEARING the sound (that got me riled). The movie appeared to have far more substance than the proceeding ones.

I can se how they had to fit these things to make them more real world and am a bit more of an open mind now to the changes. I STILL think red should have been Prime's primary truck color and Bay's response of "I just wanted him to have flames" isn't 100% acceptable to me, but we gotta live with it now. Anyway overall that final trailer made me do the 180 from being hateful toward the film to really surprising me and I'm actually very excited to see the film now.

I always had faith in Spielberg, but worry about Bay. that kind of combination you never know what to expect, but I think Spielberg knows what he's doing and if he's as big of a fan as he said he is of the Transformers I'm sure he did what he could to make it all a happy median of things.

I guess times have changed from the year 2005 depicted in the cartoon's vehicles to vehicles of our 2005 time so I see where the updates were needed. Though VW should have licensed the beetle. Idiots...

Still wish some things of the film, but I guess they can't make us all happy, right? :)

In the beginning, when I heard Bay was involved and saw some of the designs, I assumed the movie was going to suck. But, I soon realized that I was being too fundamentalist about the whole thing. It's not G1 on screen, which is what I didn't like, but I've come to realize that a fun Transformer's movie doesn't have to look like the G1 cartoon as long as it looks cool and has great action scenes. After giving up the ghost, I'm looking forward to the movie. I don't expect a masterpiece, but I think it's clear that if you approach this as just another adaptation, it'll be an exciting movie.

The movie appears to capture the essence of the Transformer's premise. I look forward to seeing this movie.

Not me. I still think this movie sucks as a transformer movie (though it would be okay with me if it was called something else).
The only thing it can do now is either prove me wrong or prove me right. We shall see...

I did. I was completely skeptical about the designs, and about Bay. My mind started to change when I saw the first leaked toy designs, and the subsequent trailers have only gotten better.

I will say that the most promising indicator of how good the movie will do is the Hollywood media machine. Most movies, if they're going to suck, get bad word of mouth months before the movie is finished, from production assistants all the way up to executive producers. But everyone involved seems really excited, the only consistent complaints have come from disgruntled fanboys (surprise) and the positive buzz has filtered down into the most ungeekish places imaginable.

Now, I gotta say, I'm irrationally excited about the movie...I wish they'd push up the release to tomorrow. July 1st is going to seem like the longest Sunday ever.

Ditto.
And unfortunately, it seems alot of what was seen in the leaked script has come to pass.

Honestly, if it wasn't called "Transformers", it'd be an interesting movie that would make me eagerly await some clever executive latching on to the popularity to make the live action Transformers movie I and others have waited 25 years for.

Maybe in another 25 years you'll have a new retelling, or fans will (with cheap CGI tech being cheaper then) do it more as what was hoped for.

I'm not a sourpuss. I REALLY wanted to be proven wrong.
I REALLY wanted that leaked script, the "people-centric" aspect, and alot of the designs not to be real.
I mean, to get a budget going for something like this is something you usually only get one shot at. When you do it, it has to be perfect from the start.
(Quite unlike all the throw-away anime that pops out every year).

trailers didnt change my mind but it did get more excited about the film it was the leaked images that turned me off at first wasnt sure if some the transformers images that weve seen would or would nt get some minor tweaks to them megatron head for example.

I was wrong i shouldnt have thought that way if i was going to see the film either way im a transformers i never knew this site was around until i found full metal war game.

I used to play game everytime i come on here but i just stopped playing for some reason and just do posts i play once in a while.

In the beginning... the designs sucked and Bay's a tool.

A few months down the line, the designs started to grow on me, but Bay was still a tool.

Trailers started coming out... thats cooler than I thought it would be, but Bay's still a tool.

Now I can't wait to see the flick even though the novelization was less than par. And for the forth time in a single post, Bay is still a tool.

Ditch him for the Sequel's, PLEASE!

I think the movie is going to be one of the best sci-fi experiences I will see in a long time. Alot of people dont like Michael Bay but I think probably only two or three other directors could pull off a movie of this magnitude and thats Lucas, Cameron, or Spielberg(directing). Other than those three, Michael Bay was a good choice for cuting edge action and effects. When they make sequels, I really think its important for Michael Bay to stay attached so that the continuity of style and feel will be consistant. I am probably going to see this movie a minimum of 3 times in the theater. I know a good movie when I see one and to do much better than this film, the fans are asking an awful lot. This movie will reshape the whole Transformers world and mythology forever.

Right before the nightly screening of Volga! Volga! there was a trailer for the Transformers movie, and this iron man (me, I might point out) was most impressed. It brought a smile to my lips and a twinkle to my eye! Yes, I became most excited like most decent chaps.

I changed sitting at the toy Isle.
I had just passed over the tf's & looked at the Star Wars figures when I heard a 5 or 6 year old child say Dady look they even look like aliens now. thats when I thought gee thats something I never even thought of. hmmm.. OK these arn't so bad any more.
