For this very special interview, Steve and I candidly talk about his involvement with "Ender's Game", the recent release of the soundtrack album, Transformers and Pain & Gain, working with Michael Bay and Gavin Hood and Steve's favorite composers and films of all time. So sit back and enjoy the ride!
Let’s touch on “Transformers” for a minute. You composed the music for the original trilogy of films that really showcased you as a terrific action composer and I really do love the original score very much. What exactly happened with your soundtrack releases for the series?
SJ: That's a big question. I'll just say that these huge summer blockbusters are intense and complex. I personally am so focused on completing the score and making the movie as good as I possibly can, sometimes the soundtrack process gets delayed, which is basically what happened with the first "Transformers." But it was a good learning experience, I try now to start thinking about the album as soon as I can.
Of course, “Transformers 4” is coming. Will you be returning to the series?
SJ: Yes. Very much looking forward to it.
Do you have an idea of what you want to do musically with this reboot?
SJ: Not yet. I need to see more and discuss ideas with Michael. He is still shooting but we will be meeting soon.
