Hi Transformer fans!

Hope everyone had fun at SDCC and enjoyed some of the new figures we have coming!

I have some catching up to do with a bunch of requested Insta posts but wanted to start with our SS86 Commander Ultra Magnus.

Bit of a short post but as I mentioned in our SDCC panel, this figures comes courtesy of the wonderful Tomo san at TT.

We crammed in a bunch of wonderful features and articulation that are standard to the scale and really make this a fun figure to play with.

Hopefully you all have been having fun collecting the Junkions so they can fully rebuild Ultra Magnus after his battle with Galvaron and his Sweeps.

This is what I was expecting when there was word Magnus was taller than Grimlock.
And I'm more than okay with this.

I'm used to it now, but I've found one of the biggest "issues" with TF figures is having shoulders that are too wide/broad.
Of course I understand why this happens.
It's related to/goes back to why I'm in favor of Hastak making as much of a push for screen accuracy as possible--
they're never going to be able to truly match the animation models, because it's an impossible task (or ask) when designing a transforming figure in a mainline.
So almost all of my critiques are more observations than negative complaints.
It reminds me of what I've said about Brawn's lower legs, feet, and head size...
Especially in the realm of Deluxe class scale, he's still a really, really solid figure.

Magnus's shoulders being a bit broad is the only aspect I can see at this point that could be considered an "issue"... Other than that, he's looking incredibly good.

I'll only say this once, but I am so thankful when I see a figure like this that doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary molded detail, aka, greebling...
If you zoom in and look at any part, or any relatively larger surface, any molded detail is subtle, clean, and just looks intentional... It's not just there "because there was surface space to fill".
This also makes the inner cavity of the chest look better; that's where there should be small molded details.
Man, even the back is clean, filled-out, and just has a completed, refined look.

This figure is an instant preorder for me. No question.

That's quite large. Will have to pre-order him now, was on the fence, but now... damn, must have him.. And follows suit with the ability to recreate death scene form the movie. Needs some blast effects though.
I wonder if the head comes off too...

Not meaning to pull this off topic, but on Instagram someone posted multiple tv adverts for the movie back when it was being released…
Had never seen the image below;
Why Snarl wasn’t with the others arriving in the shuttle is a mystery, but he clearly was going to be seen in the movie before cuts/edits were made.

Makes me wish some group would re-make the movie with the cut scenes, as well as what supposedly happened around the Ark with the other characters, especially the combiners.

Never had an issue with Snarl being in SS86, but just this second of a clip in a trailer makes me feel even better that he was included in this subline.

Snarl did make it into the final movie, appearing in three shots:

• Once in Autobot City when Ultra Magnus tells everything that they need to hurry to Cybertron to stop whatever destroyed the moons.
• Again in Autobot City a few seconds later when the Galvatron-led Decepticons first shoot at the Autobots on the ground.
• And finally aboard the Quintesson ship with Hot Rod, Kup, Wheelie, and the other Dinobots as they first arrive on Planet of Junk.

However, the third one is certainly a continuity error since we know he was definitely not with the others on either the shuttle or Quintessa.

As for the first two, we can take those at face value and assume that he was initially already stationed at Autobot City before the other Dinobots arrived (explaining why he wasn't with them at the time), and that he simply stayed behind at Autobot City with Blaster (who also vanishes from the rest of the movie after all the Autobot City scenes) to continue repairs to the city.

I had to pay the price but I finally got SS86 Blue Rumble.



That's one HELL of an improvement over the old Siege mold.

I know there's Red Frenzy coming soon. Leader Soundwave is also rumored but it's unclear what it will truly be.
I wonder if the other casettes will be updated as well?

Call me weird but I truly hope that Legacy Leader Soundwave will be a repaint/remold of Doubledealer into Machine Wars Soundwave.

Then at a later date, they could do a leader Soundwave in SS86 with a brand new mold and he should come with a new mold for the Condor. And that bird cassette should be Buzzsaw. As a direct reference to the G1 toy.

We got a designer update from Evan Brooks for the upcoming Commander Class Ultra Magnus. In the images we can see the gimmick where he can be taken apart, but more importantly for fans we get to see how he scales with other figures, like SS 86 Grimlock. You'll let us know what you think.

Sorry, my wording was not accurate to what I was thinking.
Bring my favorite Dinobot, I knew he was in the movie for really short blips of time…
I meant I wish he would’ve been in the movie more and had more of a substantial role.
It was so weird that he’s not there, then you do see him, but then he’s not there again.

I also find it odd that in the scene where the Autobots are getting attacked, Swoop is missing.
Then in that last shot, suddenly Sludge isn’t with them.

I’ve been meaning to post this sooner, but as we’ve talked about characters that could be included in SS86, I went back to the battle scene where you see Perceptor in the mid-ground and Grapple towards the background…
And strangely enough, it’s a Dinobot that runs past in the foreground,
Although overly stout and distorted-looking…

Well Ultra Magnus is just as bad as I feared he would be. So much for scale. No regrets not ordering him.

Any Slug is better than the one we got, and bipedal would at least be funny like the corpse ironhide and prowl are

Which is also weird considering this scene happens the night before he and the other Dinobots even arrive at Autobot City.

I know that it's just me, but UM does look a bit hokey in bot mode. Also after my recent debacle with a Kup repaint of Dion and how it falls apart so easily I'm not exactly thrilled about a $90 Commander Class having the same pull apart features.

Same feature, different execution. Kup just used pegs while Magnus uses Combiner Wars style locking pegs like we've also seen on Legacy Menasor and Legends God Bomber.

UM looks pretty good. Still feel like picking him up, seems like a very nice and chunky lad.

At least the limbs will not pop off on their own, and we will be able to do some CW shenanigans.

After seeing Evan’s post about SS86 Magnus I feel I speak for many of us when I say I can, in fact, deal with that right now.

"Ay, man! I can't SEE nothin'!"

The transformation comparison between Magnus and the storyboard sequence is actually really impressive. I didn't think they'd even try to replicate that. But they did. I admit, I find that charming.

Scale. I mean. Combiner Wars Magnus still exists and is likely to go down in price, right? And Kingdom Magnus looks okay in Robot Mode and is probably bang on in terms of height.



It's about a head off. Which is still off, sure. But so is Galvatron. Scale problems are better than they used to be.

Oh, I am laughing all the way to the G1 Autobot shelf! i can't wait to get corpse Ratchet and Brawn once they are hopefully made, so I can have all 4 dying! I can even have corpse Prime from ER around to complete the quintet of the dead!

Took a trip to Toys R Us today and actually found dead Ironhide and Prowl! I took them off my preorder at Hasbro Pulse because the preorders just stacked badly and, TBH, it wasn't worth the price after shipping and conversion (I live in Canada). I figured that if I missed it, I missed it and that's that. I've been taking trips all the time hoping to nab them to no avail, so I'm pretty happy to have them on my desk right now.

Once I have the space maybe I'll make a small corpse display with Sparkless Bot, Ghost Starscream, and Dead Prime facing Ectotron. Or maybe not, I dunno .

Two more for the shuttle scene. I guess. I'm over any residual childhood trauma that scene caused me.

Last TF I'm actively looking for in stores is Toxitron, I guess. Not even sure he's been out in Canada.
