I would imagine he'd be scaled with the Allicon. They're pretty much the same size.

I thought the same.
I didn’t word it well in a previous post, but that’s why I was asking about a completely new mold for Gnaw...
Seems possible Gnaw could be a re-tool of the Allicon...
Especially since neither is very easy to repaint into a different character.

We literally just got an allicon repaint/retool. So give Gnaw a new mold. They an alwayscredeco him for another miltipack.

I got Blurr the other day, and while I can see why people don't like him, I don't regret the purchase. He looks fine next to the other 1986 Autobots, the transformation is nice and involved but not too complicated, and the vehicle mode looks much nicer than the Titans Return Blurr. Not a bad figure, even if his face does look like SCP-035...

Just watched a review for the Nonnef Grimlock add-on kit.
For the forearm covers, chest piece (I went with the slightly tinted option), front teeth pieces, and sword I'm already glad it's on its way and feel it's worth the price.
The screw hole covers are a little bonus, and I don't really care about the crown. At all.
In fact, I wish they would've used that plastic for other covers/hole pieces.

@ Nuclearxpotato
I think you asked if Grimlock's neck has transparent plastic. It does not. Which is interesting that they decided to put the plastic piece over the Autobot symbol... It's a nice little touch, but not necessary. Mnius the chest (and some of the greebling, I suppose), this is based on the screen appearance, not the toy appearance.

I am definitely hoping that Gnaw is his own, new mold... However, I wouldn't doubt or actually be too letdown if he ended up being a retool of the Allicon.
When uses of molds allow for new figures that are more commonly known (and most likely more popular) such as Snarl, Sludge, and Swoop - which are 100% new molds - I don't feel as cheated when something like a Sharkticon mold takes one for the team.
Either way, this guy is going to have to look fantastic for me to not cancel my preorder.
Especially since I've also queued-up 2 Sweeps.

Has there been any word, even rumor, about when we'll hear what's happening with this sub-line past this year?

I can't imagine Studio Series 86 lasting for much longer past wave 2, maybe one more wave in late 2021 or early 2022 and that's it, because by that point the movie's 35th anniversary year will have ended. Not to mention the next live-action movie starts filming soon, so the toys for that are probably in early production now. I think Studio Series will start shifting focus towards the new movie in second quarter 2022, to coincide with the release in June, so as a result the 86 range will stop entirely and the Baybots will be gradually phased out.

Despite appearances...this isn't a sub line. It's some weird hybrid chimera that hasbro dredged up. The fact that it's packaged along other ss stuff shows it isn't a subline. Would have been way more easier if it was subline but, what can you do?

I figured since the '86' designation is included in the line's name, yet 'Studio Series' is still the main identifier, that makes it a sub-line. And I don't think it's weird. As far as I could tell requirements for 'Studio Series' were that the characters appear in movies produced by a film studio. I don't think anything was said about them having to be non-animated. Bottom line, Hasbro saw an opportunity to make money and they took it, like a successful business should.

Sub lines tend to be packed in their own cases, like the Netflix and Buzzworthy Bumblebee stuff. Hence the weirdness. After all if they said that the 1986 movie counted under Studio Series purview, then surely they wouldn't have needed the 86 suffix at all and just included them in the normal numbering system. Of course we know that these were chucked over from WfC which is why they went that route. So yeah, I absolutely agree with your last statement, this way they got to have their cake and eat it (two anniversaries celebrated through one decision)

We (the fans) may treat it as a subline for ease of organisation, but Hasbro doesn't really by using the same assortment codes for both sets of figures, but reserving the ID number 86 for the G1 ones (so officially speaking, it's not in the line name). Who says we have to follow Hasbro's organisation rules to the letter (the wiki aside) anyway? It's not the first time Hasbro pulled something like this:

  • The Beast Machines Dinobots, while having their own codes, were mixed in with the regular line figures.
  • The main 2010 line was Live Action Movie-centric (mainly with the Hunt for the Decepticons campaign), but the later half called Reveal the Shield shifted its focus towards G1 instead.

*shrugs* I'm having a hard enough time deciding whether what line goes where, especially if it's a "mix" and I end up having to split them.

It doesn't really matter... I'm not saying this to argue, and yeah, product codes yada yada...
First, SS86 really doesn't have enough figures imo to be considered it's own line.
Then the fact that it even uses "Studio Series"... I'm calling it a sub-line.

I've only transformed my Jazz once as well... No issues, and didn't seem like there was going to be any... There was maybe a clearance issue with the head, but not major and I wouldn't call it an issue of QC.

I just got around to watching the Kremzeek review of Galvatron, and not that I was ever on the fence after seeing enough decent photos, but man, I'll go as far to say I'm impressed. When I look past what I would've preferred for the main color and the damage paint apps, he is incredibly good.
I don't need the matrix or the rail guns, and I'd still pay $50 for this guy.
Other than the small forearm gaps, he looks very solid, filled-out, and where I really thought there'd be some annoying kibble, it's really not bad. There's a little more than what I'd consider ideal around the mid/lower back, but it doesn't look bad imo. Especially from the front, which is what matters most.
I can also say now that there's a good chance I'd buy the Selects version... And who knows, I'm thinking there's a chance if the colors work out, I may like it just as much.

Hastak is gaining more and more of my confidence because of releases like this one!

I'm beginning to think that Hasbro could have made everyone's life easier by just leaving off the "86" branding. Given the cgi Cybertron prequel being worked on, being an animated movie was never going to be a problem (heck, all the bots in all the movies are technically cartoons )

Has Hasbro actually referred to it as "Studio Series 86"? I think that more of an internal designation for individual figures. SS86 is just a part of normal Studio Series with Movie and G1 mixing more in future waves.

It's in the product descriptions (because it's also the product number):

Transformers: Studio Series 86-01 Deluxe The Transformers: The Movie Autobot Jazz

(Ages 8 and Up / Approx. Retail Price: $19.99 / Available: 02/01/2021)

This Studio Series 86-01 Deluxe Class The Transformers: The Movie AUTOBOT JAZZ figure stands at 4.5 inches tall, features vivid, movie-inspired deco, and converts from robot to racecar mode in 20 steps.

And it's literally all over the packaging in ways that it isn't on regular Studio Series figures.

Image

Notice how on the left side of the backdrop both have Studio Series and the product number at the top, but on the right side the live action backdrop has a faction symbol, but for the G1 figures it's just an 86 without the product number made to be seen through the little window on the side. It was a conscious decision to use 86 wherever they could and start the numbering over from 1. They could have done that when they started doing the Bee movie figures since that was a relaunch but they didn't. Could have done that for every live action movie, give them each their own numbers but they didn't. They intentionally set aside SS86 as its own unique thing.

I do have a thought about this sub-line continuing...

It wouldn't matter if they kept the "86" even after the year of the Anniversary is over; the point would be to help distinguish the G1 movie characters from the live action movie characters.
Either way, this subline will end because they'll simply run out of characters to add to it.
Now, no one should be surprised if it resurfaces at some point, because I think it's fair and realistic to say that SS86 figures are selling.
They may not be record-breaking profits, but I'd still bet they're doing quite a good job of bringing in money.

Does anyone else think there's a chance that Coronation Starscream could have a re-tooled mold beyond the shoulders for the gear?

If you despise when people speculate, you'll want to stop reading now...

Being the SS86 line, I think there's a chance part of the retooling may involve a "smoothed", sans Siege/ER greebling mold. Here's why:

-Cost effective; it's a "different version" that costs very little to make happen
-People like me will only buy this figure if it's got more to offer than the gear... I don't want to have 2 ER Starscreams just for the add-in's.
-Although it would drive some people crazy, it's not exactly like the same characters haven't been retooled within a short amount of time of one another. I haven't done an actual count, but between Siege, ER and Kingdom, this surely happened more than a lot of people thought it would.
Here's where some real speculating begins...
A more G1 look, more similar to Cyclonus, Scourge, Hot Rod, etc., first makes Hastak look less lazy for releasing another ER mold, especially in the SS86 line.
Second, I could see this newly retooled mold showing up again in the next year or so.
Why? Because of where I predict the next Generations line heading...
IF Hastak really starts branching-out, and continuing with BW, and adding in updated figures from series such as Cybertron and Armada, you know (it's already rumored) that G1 will still be included.
There's already a limited number of Decepticon characters, and think about what we have received in the last couple years-ish. I doubt we'll get a new Reflector, Soundwave, or even Shockwave any time soon.
Because we're most likely not going to see combiners for a long while, literally over 2 dozen Decepticon characters won't make the cut.
We're looking at Blitzwing, the 3 main Insecticons... And... ????
My point is knowing Hastak will need to have some old reliable, *profitable* characters/figures to add to new line, a retooled SS86 seeker mold gives them 5 voyager class figures to work with and make regular retail releases.
And the original is actually from Earthrise!
They'd essentially be getting 14+ figures from one mold!
On top of that, consider this--
ER TC and SW may not have been difficult for people to get, but it was still an exclusive (and it may have been difficult to get overseas). There were certainly issues in getting the Amazon conehead 2 pk, and I don't think it was super easy for everyone to find Thrust at Target (again, especially overseas).
So while some of us (me included) will be at least slightly annoyed that an improved seeker mold is released, there are plenty who would welcome these guys, because for one reason or another, they missed out on them. Which could mean their seeker team is only half-ish complete.

Will I be shocked if Coronation SS is the exact ER figure version? No, not at all.
But that mold just doesn't fit-in aesthetically with the others I mentioned above. Not to mention, I find the whole "Coronation" idea a bit of a tough sell right off the bat. I get it makes sense, but that doesn't mean it'll sell well.

Speaking only for myself, a retooled SS is the only way I'd consider getting this SS86 version...
The crown, cape, and shoulder pieces mean nothing to me. I have my shelf of seekers looking just like I've always wanted... Imo it would look dumb if SS was standing there in the coronation garb.
I enjoyed that scene from the movie, but I'll get a Ghost of SS figure before a "Coronation" one.

Sure. But the chances of them doing a SS86 Grapple, or Wheeljack, or any other figure we've seen in the recent lines is highly unlikely. Which is why I was a little surprised with Coronation SS. Sure, big scene in the movie. Another chance to make a little more $$$ from the ER seeker mold.
But I'm betting he's the one major exception.

I hope they continue gimmick-free, screen accurate G1 characters.
But I believe it will be in a different line, or Hastak is going to do something major like change "Studio Series 86" into "Studio Series G1".
"For collectors and fans who like the idea of MP's, but want a more affordable price point".
That gives them the wiggle room to do whatever pack-in/add-in they want for characters based on episodes, or just cartoon accurate appearances with no extras other than weapons, such as SS86 Jazz.

I think it will depend heavily on who fills Warden's shoes now he's gone to oversee Power Rangers/Ghostbusters. If that person is G1 focused, things will continue as is more or less.

We already know who is in Wardens shoes, METAL! and that's not a bad thing.

Would be nice to get a Wheeljack with the correct torso shape in SS86.
