Anyhow, if this is legit, neat! I need to get that 5G at some point here.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't a coincidence, all of it.
But I don't know, if I had their ability I wouldn't bother with MP characters that Takara is likely to tackle. I'd probably make Titans Return-esque Apeface & Snapdragon.

Would you have a friend in Japan that could, maybe, pull a Radar O'Reilly and disassemble Megs and send him to you in about 4 shipments?
Nope. Laws may have changed though, and I might just go through Premium Collectables as they have better contacts and may be able to get him in.

That's for toys.
Depending on which state you're in, he can be considered a "replica firearm" and you may actually require a firearms license or at the very least, own a gun cabinet he could be locked in.
These were the laws when the initial MP Megatron was released (with stories of a number of them being intercepted by customs and destroyed), things may have changed.

Wow, that's insane.
MP-05 was even packaged in robot mode so surely it should be obvious he isn't a real firearm. Plus being an 'oversized' toy means he isn't even a true replica?

if real, then this is immediately bought. One of my biggest reasons for not being a masterpiece collector was the lack of a decent Megatron figure.
I have been into transformers since 1984.
While I love G1 I also love new innovations and takes on the characters.
I prefer official Hasbro releases of stuff for the most part
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese original Transformers media or designs.
It's easier for me to say which are my LEAST favorite toy lines: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise.
TFCon List: Classics Skywarp, General Optimus, BW Airrazor, Transmetal Tarantulus, Alternity Prime, Fire Convoy

As it happens, I DO have the original Masterpiece Megatron, and I have considered retro reviews. The thing is with MP Megs, his transformation is so dang complicated I'd have to spend 20 minutes on that alone! And while I may be immortal, not very many others are - and really long demonstrations of transformations tend to try the patience of viewers. Still, with judicious editing, it may be tolerable. And since I judge stuff all the time, who knows?
MP Megs is different from most other TFs in that he generates 2 kinds of reviews:
Detailed reviews of the transformation to help show people what to do (usually with little tono time for opinions)
Opinionated reviews about the alt modes, the accessories and the problems with the toy.
You could do one of those second ones where you dont deal with the transformation.

Nice. A much needed improvement over the original. At this point, not looking better than MakeToys, so they still get my money.

Re: Rumour: Potential Transformers Masterpiece Megatron and Cliffjumper Designs
I heard today that the MP Megs is both legit and not legit - it is based on the Takara MP Megs (version 2) that was cancelled/delayed but it is being produced by Chinese Factories who got their hands on the specs for it.
I'll be interested to see if this pans - out as it doesn't stop Takara from still making it anyway as well if they wanted too. But it looks like the KO might get released first.
[if the rumour is true anyway]

I can't see Takara letting them get away with that. That's a gross infringement on their IP.

In all honesty? Despotron looks better. This looks a bit too...wimpy. The cannon looks weird, the proportions are all off...Nah thanks.

Megatron wasn't exactly Mr. Macho in the cartoon:Delta Magnus wrote:In all honesty? Despotron looks better. This looks a bit too...wimpy. The cannon looks weird, the proportions are all off...Nah thanks.

(NOTE: Fan digibash, not mine)
The proportions look pretty close to the onscreen model, closer than any 3rd party attempt I've ever seen. Despotron, Mightron, and Apollyon all look too chunky and bulky. G1 Megatron's look was more streamlined than any of them.

Yeah, I can kinda see that, but if I'm honest I'm not sure I want a literally 100% accurate Megatron. Some liberties need to be taken with the G1 character models to avoid them looking terrible. Case in point, MP10. The bloke who designed him (Shogo Hasui was it?) actually stated in an interview he took creative liberties with the design to avoid him looking awful.
As it stands there's a few things I just don't much care for with this supposed MP Megatron.
>The lower torso section is oddly small
>The cannon's "block" section is too tall and too big in general.
>The head is a smidgen too big
These may make it more accurate to the modelsheet, but it doesn't look good. Not to mention Megatron didn't even always particularly resemble his modelsheet anyway, especially in the movie...

I guess it all comes down to personal preference though. I will say that the prototype looks a LOT better coloured, but even so I'm not entirely convinced.
Of course, this is all assuming it IS official, and not a fan custom/3P offering.

We really needs us a Megatron. Iirc, when the original or should I say before the original came out, we had leaks of him where we doubted the authenticity of the pics then suddenly he was just there. Available.
Later we learned he was designed like in a week (okay, a hyperbole). Let's just pray, an MP version 2 is indeed in the pipeline and that Takara has learned from their mistakes. Post MP Grapple, please Takara? Megs?

I realized the other day that Trailbreaker/Hoist are the last 2-for-1 mold left in the '84-'85 roster. After them, all that's left are unique characters that have no retool/repaint opportunities within the fiction itself. That said, I'm not sure if that makes them more or less likely to be next.

Another thing that puts this prototype in favor of being official and not a 3rd party is how, thus far, no one has claimed any responsibility for it yet. People are liking the look of this thing, so any 3rd party ought to be all over that praise by claiming their responsibility for making it. And yet, so far, no one has come forward to take claim of this prototype.

WOW! That is some high level Photoshop wizardry.
Did anybody already point this out?
That stand that he's on looks like it could be the detachable stock accessory. Yeah?
Maybe combined with the silencer/barrel piece?
