I would be very curious to know if people will actually claim this toy to be better than MP Wheeljack.

I don't mean this question facetiously but what exactly are they supposed to be styling these figures after if not the cartoons? The retro-awesome but weirdly-proportioned G1-toys? The inconsistently modeled and coloured comics? The nice-looking but johnny-come-lately (and not super well known in Japan) IDW works?

Hellscream9999 wrote:They should just model them similarly to mp 10 through the datsuns and wheeljack - updates, intricate, visually interesting.

I think he just wants something that works in a 3d environment rather than taking directly from a 2d cartoon show.

I've never wanted cartoon accurate Masterpiece figures. Something that is a nice hybrid between the G1 toys and the G1 cartoon would be great. G1 toy detailing would be awesome with taking appropriate cues when a certain style dominates. I do not want the simplicity of the cartoon look, which I complained about with Inferno, but was pleasantly surprised at more of the mold detailing of Grapple. Wheeljack and Prowl are the best two Masterpiece figures, in my opinion, so far. I like Ultra Magnus, but he took too many cues from the cartoon.
Sunstreaker's head is way too cartoonish. It needs the uniquely shaped "ears" that just about every other toy version has had, including the Robot Heroes figure. There have been some minor differences with it over the years, but the obscure overly cartoonish G1-cartoon version look just isn't for me with its simplicity, especially since some episodes had the more elongated "ears" ... either way, it needs the "vents" or lines in the ears like all of the other versions have.
Diem wrote:I get what you're saying; I do like the look of the ear vents, but not including them is hardly the obscure or wrong option; it's how he looked in the cartoon, in the 1986 movie, in the comics when they were on model, in pretty much every piece of media made in the 80s that didn't rip off his box art. The only places he had vent lines was on his toys, and in post-2000's comics. I'd like having the vents as an alternate head but if you're drawing a line in the sand with one noggin, it needs to be the one where the nostalgia is at.

I'm not sure you do get what I'm saying. For the most part, until now, the Masterpiece line has been this hybrid line that meshed the G1 cartoon look with the G1 toys and some updates along the way. Only recently has the line taken a turn to go more after the cartoon look. I'm just voicing my opinion that I'm not a fan of the overly cartoon look, which has been cropping up more and more since Ultra Magnus. Not a fan. I want the cartoon look but with the detail of the toys.

Seibertron wrote:Man it seems even the fan art that pops up on Google Images for a Sunstreaker search seems to confirm that many fans seem to agree that the ears should have the lines, if not a more traditional toy shape (Classics Sunstreaker has the penultimate Sunstreaker hand so far).
