This is the best Sunstreaker figure ever. A three way tie for best MP figure as well between; Megatron, Sunstreaker and Inferno.

How can we know this when no one has had it in hand?

Just let them dream WJ!! I know I'm pre-ordering from my specific retailer when I get the chance Anything to replace Alternators Sunstreaker as my stand in.

Oh I am not doubting this is the best Sunstreaker figure, its line about him being the Best MP figure of all time that got to me. The fake parts and cartoon innacurate backpack already cost it some points over others (like MP Grimlock).

So far my list of top MPs is the following

5. Masterpiece Optimus Primal

4. Transformers Masterpiece Sideswipe (Lambor)

3. Transformers Masterpiece Grimlock (Grimlock (MP-08))

2. Masterpiece Ironhide

1. Transformers Masterpiece Wheeljack

I dont see this guy dethroning any but you never know.

Next time I will remember to say my favorite instead of best MP Grimlock does looks great, however scale is off too much for me. My top 5 MP would be, in no particular order, Inferno, Sunstreaker, Soundblaster, Megatron and Wheeljack. But Prowl is pretty sweet too.

Why? Is there a thought police out there you have to genuflect at first before you post such thoughts?

Well, there is a distinction between quality and what one personally likes and/or enjoys, even if this time it may have come across a bit heavy handed - the two certainly communicate, inform each other and at many points intersect completely; but they're not exactly the same. It's a venn diagram, basically.
For instance, I enjoy the 1986 Transformers movie; but I fully recognise it's not exactly a good work of fiction. Doesn't mean I can't like it - and, hell, I friggin' love it - I just also recognise it for what it is.

Likewise, if Sunstreaker turns out to be a terrible piece of crap with a fiddly-as-all-heck transformation with unappealing colour schemes and absolutely botched quality control, that doesn't mean one can't enjoy it; nor does it mean one can't dislike it if it turns out to be the best figure ever made. Just depends on the person and it's important to recognise that quality and personal tastes may be linked but are not necessarily the same.

So it turns out that wasnt a markup from BBTS afterall. They usually sell their toys close to the Takara MSRP (more like they make 100 Yen be $1) and thats the same price we have going on here. Of course, that MSRP price is rarely, if ever, respected in Japan where you find retail prices much lower than that.

Well that makes the choice super easy for me, its just too much for me.

I know predicting economics and why someone chooses to buy something is always iffy and tricky, but something about 120 moolah says to me it's suddenly not a very attractive prospect for many potential buyers. Especially when it's coming right off of Megatron.

I dont think so. Theres been a paradigm shift in the MP prices lat year and Megatron is great proof of this. He is getting a second release too just to answer to the demand. People have spoken with their wallets and have accepted this higher price point (which comes with higher parts count, presuming). Bumblebee was also very expensive for his size but the standard version sold out too. Sunstreaker will only go on sale if no one wants him, like Tracks and Roadrage. But it looks like we have some wealthy fans out there (or at least fans who allocate a big budget to their collection).

I used to thank them for.giving takara.competition but it looks like takara doesn't care in terms of cost.

True, but that was Megatron. Second only to Optimus, Bumblebee and maybe Starscream in iconic Transformers names and characters. He is going to sell out even if you double the price he was.

Naw, it's cashing in on the collectors market. Leader and voyager figures can have more parts and cost less. MPM Prime is bigger/more parts and costs less.

Oh I'm not talking about why it's priced that high; I fully understand it's apparently due to parts count. I'm just saying it might discourage people from getting him when he's a bit of a B-lister compared to the other character I - and you, Shockwave's pretty up there in popularity - mentioned. Optimus, Bumblebee, Grimlock, Ultra Magnus, Megatron, Shockwave, Soundwave, Starscream... all very popular characters a lot of people would have no problem paying top dollar for. But Sunstreaker? There will be a not-so-insignificant number of fans fine with paying this much, but it's a bit harder to justify than for a Grimlock or Ultra Magnus.

How is it due to parts count. Badcube sunsurge has more parts than that will. And the price was $100. Even badcube speedbump who has diecast as well as a more complex transformation was cheaper than sunstreaker and the same price as Ironhide.
