This is truly a G1 Ironhide in all his glory. The many homages to toy and cartoon alike are worthy of great applause. This line has done so much to homage and pay tribute to so many figures and I just love it

Wait, whats with all this hate for this toy? I dont mind calling a spade a spade but we give this toy crap and leave MP Starscream unscathed? Double Standards. I see the chest and proportions are the biggest problem with this Ironhide and I agree, but MP Starscream suffers from the same problem.
Does no one point that out? Because I will. Check how the nose cone in every shot of G1 shows it pointing down, making the chest a nice hint of a v shape:

The classics toy got that right:

Transformers Classics Starscream Gallery
Now look at the MP:

Transformers Masterpiece Starscream (MP-11) Gallery
The chest is inverted with the trinagular curve of the cockpit going up instead of down. This totally changes the figure's appearance by reducing the effect of a stronger upper torso with a more slender waist. I mean, does no one else see how that chest doesnt look like the animation model at that point?
He also has terrible feet that are totally different from the cartoon model. He should have some nice blocky triangular feet like this:

And not this:

These changes which I find hard to see past were made as as sacrifice to the alt mode. Same thing seems to happen here for Ironhide. If there is all this hate for this figure, why isn't Starscream disliked for having the same problems and sacrifices?

I think the Answer is pretty simple: this Starscream mold is ~10 years old already. Any faults have had the luxury of fading with time. Plus, the MP11 iteration was an improvement on the original, so people don't look at it and think "this could have been better" - they think "holy cow, this is great compared to what I had before!"
Ironhide is brand new, and should have had the benefit of 10 years of engineering trial and error to perfect. But alas.

Wow, I never even noticed that about the cockpit on MP-11 before. I don't know why everyone is being so hard on poor Ironhide either. None of the MP's are EXACT replicas of the character models from G1, but they try as best they can. I think perhaps people were spoiled by MP-10, because that is THE definitive Optimus Prime in robot form. But honestly, to achieve that, the vehicle mode suffers. Yes, the cab looks amazing on MP-10, but the trailer bed looks like Optimus Prime's legs, not a real truck bed, at all. The Masterpiece cars all go for greater vehicle authenticity first, because they are licensed, and need to look realistic enough for Takara to fulfill their end of the agreement with the car manufactures to be able to sell them with their official logos. That means the concessions are going to skew more heavily towards the bot mode. There's no such need for a such a restrictions with Prime, being that his truck mode is not licensed. Even though I don't think MP-11 is licensed either, they obviously tried to make the jet mode as authentic looking as possible (if you don't look at the bottom). Even Masterpiece Soundwave looks a little funky in tape deck mode, being just a bit too thick and with some funny looking stuff crammed into the back. There's nothing new or surprising about this Masterpiece Ironhide. I can't wait to have it in my collection either.

I think it goes a little deeper than that. If you look at reactions to the initial release of the classics and universe 2.0 figures, we were just ecstatic that these figures were being released; but the fandom (myself not included this time) has become so conceited from hasbro (and tt where it counts) slowly caving to the G1 complaints of 'not being G1 enough' that every figure that deviates even a little from what they think the figure should look like, receives the massive-est of $hit storms from them (sky lynx combining, the '84 teams, various cw figures, mp ironhide, mp ultra magnus, mp bee, to name several off the top of my head) and while I understand that it is a loud minority, I think everyone's standards of 'G1-itude' have been gradually increasing over the years to the point where the dimensions of ironhides abdomen are enough to yield a tidal wave of crap from people; so maybe y'all should reign in some of your standards a little

Exactly, but I think that a lot of that comes from the quality of animation of the show being pure garbage, that it didn't convey dimensions very well

While I do understand the frustration (I as a relatively new collector feel that frustration with Starscream and judge him alongside the others equally), the one for Ultra Magnus confuses me to no end. The MP line especially since MP 10 has all been about being as toon accurate as possible. So the complaint that Magnus isnt an individual white prime really confuses me because that was never in the show. Thats just a leftover from the toy being a repurposed Optimus super mode toy. That was never part of fiction in the G1 show so I don see why the toy would need it. And plus there was a white prime as Ultra Magnus in the MP line already.

NOPE!
Wolfman Jake wrote:...in robot form.
Oh I see. Yes, we are on the same page (I was just trying to illustrate my thoughts when I read your post
Actually with Prime, the reason why I was a bit dissapointed with MP 10 is because I already had MP 01 and with all the changes they made, they still left his crotch area untouched in the vehicle mode, there for all to see. I was there thinking "is this really that much of an upgrade?". And I still think there is 1 problem with the robot mode of MP 10: his crotch hole. That piece isnt part of the transformation at any part (just as with MP 01 and he didnt have a hole there) so I dont get it. Does anyone know why MP 10 has a really obvious and distracting crotch hole? I have been wondering that since I got him.
Also, Megatronus, thanks a bunch for your reply. As a newer collector, I bought all my MPs at a similar time and thus I compare them all to one another on an even playing field without looking at the history or time. So for me, it being a dated mold then seems more like a reason not to focus on this mold too much instead of it being a reason to cope with my purchase not being of a perfect rendition.

I remember this exactly. I wandered into the MP UM thread, cuz I thought it looked incredible (being represented by only the rid, energon, and classics UM til this point, growing up after G1 and all that), I thought it was an incredible thing for the fandom to receive, but lo and behold: no buttflap, blah blah blah, pointless bs, 3P's products are better; it was a complete joke, never went back to the thread

Re: Takara Tomy MP-27 Ironhide Discussion Thread
Comparing-wise to MP-11, were there any fabulous high-end 3pp Starscreams around to compare it to?
I think that is one of the problems, MP Ironhide is trying to compare with a few different versions of himself floating around and the expectations of 'official' are pretty high. I know that I will probably get THIS ironhide... but I have an Igear Ratchet that will probably serve as my ratchet.
Was MP Starscream the only one and true idealistic starscream when he was released? or did fans have some choices at the time?

I got MP Bluestreak yesterday. It's a marvelous figure and I sincerly think his only flaw is his price. Even at 30% off, CAN62$+tx is a bit expensive for a "mega" sized figure. Still, no buyer remorse there because he's perfect all over... Unless you are an OCD douche who will complain about the hollowness of the back calves, or how a random detail is just 2mm up or down.......
