Someone named Hisao Nishimoto did.
Didn't know that. Has Takara said why?

Well I am Australian. It's kinda what we're known for.

Well, yea. Because then the toy would be better.

He is a great looking figure. What we have here are some major splitting hairs. This is a gorgeous figure

I'm just thinking about how the licensing seems to differ between Japan and the US. Although Nissan seems more than happy to license their IP, since we've gotten Hasbro Prowl and Streak.

Agreed...same as MP Magnus. People will have complaints. I laughed at the tire butt cheeks myself, the wifey thought his butt was adorable. Really, I have no complaints and look forward to adding him and the inevitable Ratchet to my MP shelf.

I may not be able to get this version of the mold, since I've got a lot of Masterpieces to get first, but later I may get a Ratchet if they release him. He's not my favorite looking anyways, so I'd be happy with others like Wheeljack and Tracks if Ratchet doesn't get released.
I'd rather have Ratchet than Ironhide anyways because I liked him better in the cartoon than Ironhide. I love the ambulance mode.

If I get a Masterpiece, the first will be Sideswipe (unless a MP Trailbreaker comes out before I get him, favorite 2 you know?), but this would be one for my sister. She may not be that into transformers, but she loves Ironhide to no end (She cried for a while, including in the theater, when movie version died)

I heard the same with UM about the buttock component.
Maybe not to prejudge the figure? Don't let the opportunity slip by fellas. Keep an open mind. All this negativity will turn off potential collectors who can easily be dissuaded by the lot.

Critique is not indicative of a decision not to purchase, at least in my case. There are a lot of things I dislike about Ironhide, but my various sighs of frustration about the hip panels, awkward legs, and backside are just that - sighs - and not attacks on those that love this figure from the feet up.
Ultra Magnus is a figure that I did, in fact, prejudge, and guess what? The butt flap annoys me even more in person. As does the shoulder articulation and hollow, under-utilized cab. I do own it, but it's not heresy to feel bummed or express frustrations while still appreciating its existence. I don't know if Ironhide suffers from similar budgetary constraints, and I expect to buy it, but it's fair to provide armchair judgement and critique it given the heavy volume of images.
If anything, it will be interesting to see if in-hand experiences change my initial opinions.

Can I ask what's not right about the head sculpt to you? It looks fine to me, and I think some of the promotional photography gives it a bit of a "stretched look," but "in hand" pics show it to be a little more proportional. The head and face look like Ironhide to me, and not like anyone else, so I'm not sure that's "wrong" with it to some.

It's Ironhide's face ... it's just not right! The jawline needs to be more squared off, his face is too thin, it slopes down toward his chin, instead of being a more rectangular face. This is another example of where they take the source material too seriously ... I don't think anyone would have complained about him having a silver face, but instead they gave him this oddly painted face similar to what they did with Bumblebee which dulls the details such as the facial lines. The eyes aren't big enough. The nose isn't wide enough. The bottom of the nose is too close to the upper lip. The nose is also too long. The lines along the side of his face should be very defined yet they can hardly be seen, same problem on Bumblebee's face.
If you guys can't see the many things wrong with Ironhide's face, not sure what to tell you guys. The smallest details can make the biggest differences. Masterpiece Prowl and Wheeljack set the bar ... Ironhide is a disappointment after them. It especially sucks with Ironhide because we keep hoping we'll get a great Ironhide/Ratchet toy at some point but continue to be disappointed with release after release.
