my only complaint is the butt wheels and the red hip panels maybe they could have put them somewhere else where you might see them but wont look weird, anyway its amazing how they had the whole vehicle form the robot, how i envisioned the original toy should have been although with its flaws its still the best Ironhide toy so far ;)

I don't know about the wheels, but those panels should have been engineered to slide, swivel, or flip up and cover the very obvious gaps in his mid-section. Or, how about they just follow the wheels and become butt kibble. That sounds a whole lot better than mucking up the robot mode and hindering the leg articulation.

Please.

Ironhide could have been better designed and engineered. It doesn't take black magic, it takes a budget. As nice as Ultra Magnus is, that toy definitely suffered in some areas because they tried very hard to cut costs. I would not be surprised if Ironhide was a similar case.

As far as I'm concerned, this figure is a decent placeholder, but not a definitive version of the character in any sense.

This. TT has a certain budget cutoff point. And you follow what the suits upstairs say so. 3rd party companies are more likely a bunch of family/buddies/co-investors/designers package willing to take a gamble etc etc unlike the corporate slugs.

Before this gets relegated to which is better, 3rd party or 1st, the proof in the pie is in the "humping". So let's wait until it gets delivered.

But beyond that, there are several prominent 3p ironhides that use a rather simple transformation to achieve near flawless articulation and screen accuracy (I believe); not saying TT should clone the 3p designs, but it is possible, and they could have easily worked in elements of it to make it look better.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

Well, we definitely know that no black magic is necessary because there are 3rd Party designs, particularly the Voodoo model, that DO manage to achieve the things you've mentioned. Although I suppose there is some irony in a company called Voodoo NOT using black magic lol. Again, 3rd party companies should not even be contenders when it comes to producing the "definitive" look of any particular character. Has/Tak have done brilliant jobs with previous MP releases, but I think it's fair to say that this one has divided the fan community more than any previous release. So much so, that we'll probably get an updated version at some point in the future. At least, I hope so... Because I sure wont be buying this mess in it's current form.

Eh, the Voodoo Robots versions do the torsos right, but the legs (and those window feet!) are completely wrong for the TV likeness Takara Tomy was going for (and many of us prefer) and the arms look no better at all still leaving chunks of stuff on the back of the forearms. It really comes down to preference and I find more than enough faults with all of the third party versions that I'm satisfied with the official version.

This to me sums up all the source of where I suspect this toy hasn't met expectations. Because of the design choice to include the 'toy face', all of that volume behind the windscreen, which logically is where you would store the actual head is used for something else.

That held sculpt is magnificent, though.

You may be right... It's likely my own neurosis that's the factor here. I'm sure most of us have a different vision of what constitutes a "perfect" Ironhide sculpt. My main point of contention is the torso and waist. With that in mind, my own preference for the torso/waist of the Voodoo design may have led me to overlook some of the other potential shortcomings you've mentioned. I mean, the torso is the most glaringly obvious difference there & it's mainly that (and the diaper) that I have a problem with. While yes, it is largely personal preference, I still can't help but feel as though Has/Tak could have made a better job of it rather than simply relying on us collectors to buy the figure just because it's the official version & it's the best they can be bothered with.

It's because of the way his shoulders sit back. If they were forward just a little more in line with his head and hips his "gut" wouldn't seem so big.

This.

We've had plenty of users who have registered actual issues with the design of the mold, not least of whom are Sabrblade and Seibertron. And as pointed out earlier, it seems a good portion of the figure was given up to a throwback easter egg and was designed around it; And honestly, he never looked right to me in the first place, which is strange as ratchet actually pulls the mold off quite well, and I can only place the blame on the design of the diaper >:oP

I had grown somewhat optimistic about this figure, but these pictures ruin that. It doesn't live up to the MP standard. 3Rd party doing a better job doesn't even matter because we have seen A better job done on on the regular transformed lines. This just feels lazy.
