I laughed at the above but it subscribes to the "everyone else on the internet is one person" fallacy.

I see it in politics, geek culture, and here.

Whenever you start down the path of "everyone is so picky and inconsistent", the truth is usually that there are separate groups, some of whom change their minds or are hypocrites occasionally, and they overlap with other people. Treating them as one big group usually leads to problems.

It's kind of like the parable of three blind men arguing about an elephant.

Two or three of those reactions apply to me. But not all of them do. For me, vehicle mode is an action feature more than a priority. So the panel assembly issue is a minor disappointment I won't think twice about unless Hasbro announces a Crosshairs redeco or a Platinum release of the Takara Kup, in which case I'll probably tweet the issue at them for future reference.

Gonna be waiting a long long time for that crosshairs deco since Titans Return is over and power of the primes gimmick for deluxes is Combiners again.

I still don’t understand why people want that. Crosshairs didn’t even turn into a truck he turned into a buggy thing.

Takara releases Legends Kup and one person finds a small design flaw that nobody found in the TR one for 9 months:

I haven't seen a single person complaining about the misassembly so far honestly. Near as I can tell, the collective conclusion is "whatever, it doesn't affect the figure and looks fine so we don't care". The rest of the timeline seems pretty accurate to me though

Not really. Plenty of people are now just complaining how every figure is busted apparently.

Ah, but the complaints are about the existence of issues, not how they actually negatively impact the figures that have them. It's the principle of the thing

I really wish the alternate Scourge head came with a slightly different colour-mapped Scourge, as even if you buy a new scourge for that head, you are always left with an extra scourge head.

Dude, everything is misassembled these days. MPM Prime, my SDCC Metroplex, Trypticon, MP Ramjet, man... tons of stuff. It's like a new trademark.

Don't forget Pyra Magna, G2 Onslaught and TFCC Bludgeon. I know that last one isn't official. But still. This one greatly affected Transformation.


Still looking for a skilled modder to fix those pins, by the way.

Bludgeon is an official figure. Just because TFCC is no more doesn’t take away their figures’ status as official products. If it’s has Hasbro and or Takaras name on them they are official. And while the knees have a flaw they still fully functional and it doesn’t technically hinder the toy. I didn’t even know about that hinge on hotspot until it was addressed 11 months after owning him.

What problem with the Hot Spot hinge? Mine was fine. Same with Onslaught.

The hinge on the three I mentioned are assembled backwards. Which DOES hinder the toys' bot mode. You can't lock the knee in correctly because of this misassembly. It's a HUGE bummer.

These are interesting points! I emailed this site about someone doing a (series of?) story/stories about "controversial" aspects to Transformers, and possibly toylines in general? It might be interesting to go through "the muck" and even see that for some aspects, cartoon companies were damned if they did or didn't include religious icons, etc.

Store box sets, Platinum decos, further retools, SDCC exclusives (which often have BOTH Hasbro and TRU exclusives), Hascon exclusives, eHobby, movie line filler, Tribute series... I think we'll see at least half a dozen of these molds again inside five years.

Even the new line has enigmas that use HM sockets (some with faces) and the Last Knight has one true Titan Master and another figure that uses the head socket.

I don't think it is a misassembled part but more of a design error, especially if the wheel cover is one whole part.

The wheel cover in question is two parts, but the way it's all held together seems to necessitate sawing one of the pieces in order to detach it. It seems weird for it to be a design error, seeing as it still fits perfectly (and also matches up exactly with the otherwise-misaligned detail) when the panels are swapped. While that could be a coincidence, I think it's a bit of a stretch to assume that's the case personally.

More likely it isn't the designer's fault, but the fault of whoever did the assembly schematic, otherwise it wouldn't exist in every use of this mold including Takara Tomy's modified version.

Seibertron, if you don't like the mold's flat back then combine the Hasbro guns and plug it into his back as a jetpack, it makes a big difference. Of course you'll then have to find a replacement gun and this doesn't work with the Legends version.

Just noticed when trying to read these comics with Google Translate that it isn't really Dinosaurer running around, but Grimlock's Headmaster controlling Dinosaurer's body. That really brings the whole movie thing with Hot Rod and the Sharkticons together even more.

I've been using the combined guns as a jetpack for Tribute Orion Pax, and I have to agree they work pretty well (the flat back majorly bothers me otherwise as well). I had the idea that maybe PRiD Sergeant Kup's cannons could function similarly - knowing that I'm gonna need something to fill in LG Kup's back when he arrives - but I could only find one of them so I can't test for certain if they'd both fit in the holes or not. From a rough estimate with the one I could find though, it looks like it'll be a pretty tight fit if they work at all. Back to the drawing board I guess...

Just saw this post and wanted to share asap for those who are getting the Legends Hot Rod

Aaaaand as I suspected, Hot Rod's chest didn't last long, being made out of translucent plastic.

The tight grip between his torso and chest piece meant I had to apply a good amount of force pulling it out for vehicle mode, which resulted in a nasty crack through part of the flame the third time I did it.

I'd suggest filing the sides of the tabs on his chest piece before transforming him too much, if this kind of tight tolerance is widespread.

Awww that sucks to read...thanks for posting that WJ. I just may consider getting a 2nd one just to be safe keeping the other forever in alt-mode.

Okay, first off this is my first post so Hello to everyone.

Second, that is one dangerous method to get the desired result. I used two thin pointed nail files to release the latches on either side of the fender well then pried the panel out while applying heat with a soldering pen to the rivet. Done in reverse to reassemble. Finished the mod in about two minutes. Hope this helps.

Only one tiny divet where the point of the pen slipped off the rivet. Totally hidden on both modes. Also just me not having the pen gripped firmly enough lol.

Like I said, I didn't even know I could lock the knees for 11 months on hotspot and he stood and posed just fine. Wasn't till it was discovered on pyra Magnus that I even knew you could on the hotspot and onslaught so it wasn't even something gave a frown over

The comic is a comic based on the toys. It is not the toys. This is the toys forum, so we can keep discussing toys. The comic news has been moved to the comics section.

We are currently discussing with staff ways of streamlining the megathreads, as they are mostly useful for news purposes but do get cumbersome for a lot of users. This is one step towards that.

Yes, and as someone that buys figures that I missed out on and and sells figures that I am done with, anyone "fixing" their figures have just potentially reduced their resale value. I've passed on a number of figures on ebay where the sellers indicated they "fixed" and issue by cutting tabs or shaving down parts. The shoulder issue on FOC Jazz/Sideswipe comes to mind. The thing is, an ebay buyer has no way of knowing whether the seller knew what they were doing when "fixing" an issue, so there is no way I'm bidding on something where the buyer claims to have fixed something that cannot be restored to original. This is specifically why I bought a new set of springs for Trypticon, instead of cutting the originals.

Just one more thing to consider if anyone is thinking about modifying their figures.

The idea that the finished product, whether intended by the designers to be assembled as such or not, is the "correct" assembly because that's what it is? Death of the Designer eh, an interesting proposition
