But he's not quite like other good guys, is he?

It's not that I don't like 'good guys', but they at least need to have a little flair about them, can't all be a bunch of generic car-bots

I really don't like that they used Infinitus. They could have used the Voyager Prime head or even re-used their own Ginrai head (the titan master, not the helmet), but this one just doesn't work for Lio Convoy.

My guess is that using Infinitus makes the most sense if one wants a Headmaster whose own robot mode has an Optimus Prime/Convoy-like head since both Apex and Diac have heads that don't look like the traditional Optimus/Convoy head.

I do rather like the Chromedome IDW head - mainly as I like the Botcon toy - the actual IDW character model unfortunately suffers from IDW's main sin which is Gundam proportions on many of their non-Earth Character designs.

Or to put it another way he's to skinny.

But I'm not over bothered by the head - though perhaps it is a small shame that there isn't a 3rd option for a faceplate in some sort of boxed set.
Basically a US cartoon head I guess.
Or Perhaps Takara can make Campaign toys of the "other heads" as they differ from their own - and it would also offer the advantage of giving you something to use with the Titanmasters that come with many of their toys too.

Why? TT hasn't used infinitus in its main line yet as they aren't releasing Sentinel. So they release his head (which is really all he is) with this guy, and may release sovereign with someone else (maybe vector prime?) plus he really pulls off the 'prime' look nicely while not being a traditional prime.

Because it's not quite the Lio Convoy head. It just evokes Sentinel's character much more to me; I really can't see Lio Convoy in it. A bit too antagonistic.

Well that's, whatever, dunno what to tell ya, probably the results of fiction being a double-edged sword, you can't un-see things once they've been tied together like that in your mind

I personally think it has a nicely regal, yet edgy, mature look to it, like he's seen some sh|t and gotten through it all, and matured into a great, battle-tested leader

I wonder how many Japanese fans will note "Leo Prime reuses the Headmaster of LG40 Astrotrain".

That said, the Sovereign mold will see use for Broadside over there, or Shockwave (you all know who I mean ), so no worries about him getting skipped, period. It's just one face that doesn't get used.

The articulation in lion mode is pretty non existent. The ship is nothing less than a space log. Articulation in bot mode is great though.

The reason I am most tempted by Lio Convoy (I will preorder him next week, just hoping the exchange rate gains by 1 cent) is actually because I feel this version will let me better experience the other 2 molds. Surprisingly, the bot mode for Lio Convoy is just fine, I think Alpha Trion looks way cooler. I like all those colours mixing. But that mix really hurts the other modes. It makes the ship look really random. With the Takara version, its all one uniform colour, and it brings out the ship's shape much better. You can even see the continuous runways lines. As for the lion, it also helps greatly, his back hips are no longer purple with red on either side but just white. His feet, all limbs, main body and face are all white, making it really nice. And by making those side peices gold, it actually simulates the mane covering more of the front body, unlike Hasbro which just looks like Piet Modrian painted on a lion.






Someone said this could be a Transmetal 2 Lio Convoy and I think thats just rad (caus you know, the 90s).

I have learnt that sometimes you just need the right deco to enjoy a toy (hence why I am the only huge fan of that Gen Skybyte mold) and for the alt modes, takara makes them work. So sold.

I see what you are saying! It's like Hasbro concentrated all their efforts on the bot mode only leaving the other modes jumbled. Where Takara's deco takes all modes into account. I didn't really see that before. thanks for pointing that out.

If you didn't notice, I will now be enjoying the mold in both decos.

Edit: another thing I just noticed is Takara cast the cockpit cover in opaque plastic, and painted it to look like a cockpit without taking into account that it's sculpted to resemble a lions head. A slight bummer. They could have really had some fun with that.

The person in Hb in charge of his color choice must have been high on 'shrooms or something.

Takara always, well 90% of the time gets the color right.

Not really. The Voyagers seem to be suffering a price hike; a lot of places I've seen them go for between £26 and £30

Forbidden Planet tends to overprice things and sells Voyagers between £25 and £30
Toys R Us has Voyagers at £24.99 but let me have Galvatron for £22.99 cos of a shelf label mix up.
Toys R Us are also fine on Deluxe prices (£16.99 last I looked).
Argos take the piss. £19.99 for Deluxes AND everytime I do a customer view it's always been Combiner Wars toys they get out (they reused the same catalogue number yet the catalogue clearly shows Highbrow as the example toy which is odd cos he's not even first wave) and I have to spend ten mins explaining that CW was the old gimmick and we're on Titans Returns now and turns out they have no actual Titans stuff in stock and £20 for old CW deluxes is a rip off. FOUR different Argos' that's happened to me.


Anyways I like Alpha Trion and particularly his colour scheme. Lio does nothing for me and the colours just seem too 'Power Rangers' for my tastes.

Well there's been a couple of TR Leaders spotted in TK Maxx!(Blaster & PMOP) for around the £25 mark.....& they seem to be Euro stock, so....maybe not everywhere's so pricey

Just an fyi but in order to get Twincast to stay on his socket in Legends Broadcast, you need to twist the mini head facing backward first. If not, he keeps on popping out.

This seems to be the case with a lot of TR molds. The Astrotrain/Sentinel mold's neck socket seems to be assembled backwards across the board. Forcing you to have to turn the TM's head 180.

Hmm, that's weird, my Sentinel works just fine. Astrotrain should be waiting for me when I get home from a business trip tomorrow. Fingers crosses he'll be fine too, but good to know the fix if I need it.
