Was kinda the same for the original toy as well; same for Skullcruncher and Skullsmasher. They just hid all the beast mode kibble on the back.
Which... is a shame because imo what can really make a Transformers design great is intelligent integration of vehicle/beast mode parts. Even something as simple as a beast head/car hood chest can really do a lot for a Transformer's design and set them apart from every other mecha design out there.

Not quite. Skullcruncher has those tail halves in plain sight while Skullsmasher has the front claws clearly hanging off his arms and both have visible rear crock legs. Weirdwolf and Wolfwire hide all of their animal parts behind them, they could just as easily have turned into vehicles for all anyone knew.

Exactly, it's impressive. HasTak did such a great job with Weirdwolf.
One thing though, it would have been nice if the pegs on the blade had matched the screw hole on the wolf head so he could carry the sword on his back like a sheath.

One thing I like about the Legends figures is that the instructions show a different type of Titan Master integration; the figures can actually ride the vehicle modes of the drones.

Instead of forming part of one mode? Usually one mode is for riding, the other for "merging". Although, looking at the boxes and comics, there have been only two instances of a Headmaster combining with the drone:
- Batora's Dino Mode requires a combination with a Headmaster, it acts like a prison. Somehow, I'm reminded Five Nights at Freddy's...
- Megalligator combines with Ape-X Arms via "Soul In" for its weapon mode, presumably to control it directly without a larger body.
The rest are all "Ride On" modes, vs. "Head On" for the Transtector's Robot Mode.

But doesn't Hasbro also show this in their instructions for the titan master packs? Are the configurations any different? Give us an example if that's the case, I'd be curious to see it.

				Just got to reading this:
https://www.eyrie.org/~dvandom/BW/Gen/FortMax c/o bwtf.com on the differences between Fortress Maximus and "Fortress" Maximus.
TL version (mine), you can open the right forearm. Hb is supposedly locked/glued. Fortmax (Hb) weighs 6.25 lbs compared to Metroplex (Hb) 6.21 lbs.
What's not surprising, compare Fortmax's weight to G1 Fortmax. The latter weighs almost 9 lbs( sans accessories ). Not using the lost art of die-cast molding but the plastic back then was very thick.
No wonder the original can be used as a blunt trauma weapon just like MP-01.

Supposedly Cerebros is so loose. My TL "Fortress" isn't. Even the back "ramp" is tight.
As mentioned, TL Fortress shins are glues shut while his right forearm is not (what?)

The Hasbro instructions show the Titan Master riding in one vehicle mode, while "Merging" with the drone for the secondary vehicle and weapon mode utilizing the head transformation. Legends Hardhead's instructions show a way to peg the Titan Master into the jet mode of the drone, so it looks like it's flying, my video review points this out. I don't have any of the other Legends with Drones to see how the other Titan Master vehicles are done differently.

		Edit:
Synopsis from TFwiki --
Weirdwolf's transtector is completed, but as he's going on about destroying the Autobots and conquering the world, he's interrupted by the transtector licking him, revealing itself to be alive! Tarantulas explains that he's not alone, Skullcruncher's transtector being a living being as well, and asks Weirdwolf to remember to take his "Wolnosuke" out for walks. But walking a giant robot wolf is hard and it ends up running off, leaving Weirdwolf to put up "lost pet" posters around the city. He runs into Hardhead and Chromedome (still stuck in Batora), out drinking after work, and the two drunks end up accidentally throwing his posters in a river.
As Weirdwolf swears vengeance against the Autobots, his partner drone Rarigo arrives and beats them up for him, removing Chromedome from Batora in the process. The gorilla uses drawings to explain that Wolnosuke has been found, and Weirdwolf is happily reunited with the transtector, combining with it and telling it they'll never be apart again. With the transtector, Rarigo, and Batora at his disposal, he sets out to defeat the Autobots... but is still unable to control Wolnosuke, who immediately runs off again with him in tow.

A little late to the party, but I finally received LG-27 - LG-31
They were stuck in customs for over three weeks, I think the guys there wanted to have a play with them as well

I'm super happy with my purchase. But I'll have to see where I'll buy my next Titan Class figure, cause shipping for all of this was around $150

Got my Hasbro Weirdwolf/Wolfwire (and two Brainstorms) from Walgreen's and it's a great figure (so is Brainstorm (also, not telling why I got 2)). The Legends version, however, I think it has too much bright yellow. Not sayino it's a bad figure, I'm just saying that the colors kind of hurt my eyes. TR version is fine though. Also, can anyone tell me what the blue things on his shoulders are? Are they exhaust ports? Missile launchers? Blue Man Group PVC pipes?

I think I've finally decided on passing up Fort Max. For the price and quality, I just can't justify it. It's a shame because I'd love to have Cerebros, but like Metroplex, I can't justify the cost for a small figure.

This the TLegends and not the TR thread. And the yellow is just the same. You can't tell the color by just the PC monitor image unless you actually have it on hand.
The only difference is quality cosmetic. Hb version has a blotchy silver disc paint job on both his shoulders. I checked that in all the TRU samples in my place. The sword/tail has a red color over the yellow in TL and that silver patch on his shins. The heads are both kick ass in TL and TR, with the latter even more menacing.
The gray is more cleaner in the TL. As for the shoulder things, its a homage from the original which actually folds up and is hidden (more or less missile pods similar to Starscream's cluster bomb rack (pardon the pun) on his chest as seen in that Fire in the Mountain episode.

Uhhm, did Metroplex include a smaller figure? Well except for Scamper that is. And TL Fortmax includes "Fortress". It's the TR version that actually has "Cerebros" from "The Rebirth"
And, it's been nearly 30 years sin ce the last Fortmax was released. Get one while you still can.

Sorry about that, I though that I would throw in my two cents on the Legends version while comparing it to my TR version. The color difference might just be my screen.

I have no problem justifying the price of Fort Max when I've got Convobat coming for about $80 and have found myself lately with a bunch of other Deluxe figures for $50+ (like the Subscription Service stuff), so $230 for a 2 foot tall Legends Fort Max isn't so bad.
Other's seem to be able to justify it as well since BBTS only has substandard boxes left and TFSource (which still hasn't gotten him in yet) raised the price from $229.99 to $249.99.
