Quick comparison -- and as Sabrblade said, yup; new chestflap and helmet pieces. No other remolding (aside from the titan masters and powermaster engines) seems to be present.

... man, this really shows how good the Hasbro deco is. I really didn't appreciate it enough before.

It's a shame they didn't just do Overlord "right". The head doesn't need to be removed for transformation, so just have the head be a solid piece like it is with normal Transformers, then just have the "Titan Masters" transform into the engines in his chest, or be "Prime Masters". It seems so weird that we are getting Prime Masters (aka Godmasters or Powermasters) next, and yet the two biggest examples of them don't have the gimmicks done properly.

It kind of makes you wonder if late in the POTP line we'll get a Deszaras with a gaping Prime Master hole in place of the breastmasters

Godbomber's Parts-forming is one of the trickiest gimmick these days

Godbomber is no longer a parts former, he goes from robot to vehicle without removing the parts.

It's a shame they didn't just do Overlord "right". The head doesn't need to be removed for transformation, so just have the head be a solid piece like it is with normal Transformers, then just have the "Titan Masters" transform into the engines in his chest, or be "Prime Masters". It seems so weird that we are getting Prime Masters (aka Godmasters or Powermasters) next, and yet the two biggest examples of them don't have the gimmicks done properly.

I agree, and now I am rethinking if I will really get this overlord over the hasbro one, especially when I can get the Hasbro one for half the cost.

Blitzwing comes with the gun that attaches to the tank mode to complete the turret, much like the Megatron version of this mold's fusion cannon. So he still has a gun and a sword, just not 2 guns and a sword like the Hasbro version.

Sadly it looks like he does not we are only getting the silly elephant gun it seems. I hope it does come with a normal gun and it just isn't shown here.

I think it depends on what Overlord you want. If, like me, you want one based on Masterforce, this is a win. The Hasbro is far too IDW light blue for me, but I do agree with you that there was no need for a headmaster on him

To me, there is a difference between plain, and proper blending. The Hasbro one to me looks plain because the colors just look... eeck. it looks too bright. This one feels darker in tone, it has a much better face, and the colors blend much better and are more appealing. It looks more imposing overall, and more eye appealing

Would y'all have rather we never got a new Overlord, let alone TWO optional versions, at all? Honestly, we are a spoiled fandom.

I hope I didn't come across as whiny. Honestly, I've been waiting for the TT reveal of Overlord, and I love it. In a perfect world, they'd have gone for a straight update of G1 Overlord, powermaster gimmicks and all. In this world, it is a release during the TM portion of the Legends line, and that's what it is. I really like what they've done with it, and I'm glad I waited.

did not see the Giga engine before, very nice. trying to make Transtectors for Minerva and Goshooter will provide the needed extra Titanmasters.

Though I still want the Legends Overlord more than the Hasbro one. Hopefully the engine plates on Legends Overlord are removable. That way, I can put the Engine Blocks on Giga and Mega, move the Overlord faces to the Dummy Titanmasters, then enjoy a sweet Godmaster Overlord with swapable faces.

You know, first with Sixshot, and now with Overlord, I fail to see the exact reason for going the extra mile of retooling the helmet if they already have "enough" resemblance to whatever source material they used. TakaraTomy is usually pretty lenient with using the mold as is. Then it struck me: if they're gonna create all-new Headmasters, why not design new parts to gang-mold them with?

Going by plastic color of the Headmasters:

- Dark Blue: Giga's arms and lower legs, Overlord's helmet
- White: Mega's upper legs, arms and faceplate, Giga and Mega's heads, Overlord's Chest Panels
- Grey: Giga's and Mega's upper legs, Giga's Face Plate
- Teal: Giga's and Mega's bodies, Mega's lower legs.

The bigger the change, the more it's worth it I guess?

It's certainly a bit weird, but my guess is keeping the Headmaster gimmick took priority -- especially when you wouldn't really be able to use a Powermaster-ised Titan Master for anything else. I don't think it'd even work with POTP's gimmick.

Takara: please stop using light shades of purple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are taking cartoon accuracy way too far.

And man, did they really miss the opportunity to do multiple faces with Blitzwing? I was really hoping for his bat-shit crazy face and his DC-Cyborg face from Animated. Urgh.

The purple doesn't bug me so much. It's a bit lighter, but not completely off base like Legends Galvatron. What stands out to me much more in the creamy yellow plastic used instead of the lighter beige of the G1 cartoon, the original toy, and Hasbro's new Titans Return version. It's just a bit too bright and saturated like the color of light brown they used for Legends Hardhead. It's not quite right, but it doesn't look "bad."

I will agree that Takara lost a great opportunity by not giving Legends Blitzwing extra "Animated" heads. That would have been a lot of fun. There is still a possibility of seeing those down the line, as Takara has shown they like to package extra Headmasters with their "Legends Class/Size" figures in this line. They could also throw them into a potential second Legends EX Headmaster booster pack.

You've hit the nail on the head, Sabr. Even if Takara had made Mega and Giga into Power Masters that fit inside Overlord's chest...what good does that really do? They don't actually unlock a transformation like the Power Masters of old in G1. They'd merely be decorations. You'd most likely keep them in there to give Overlord is proper look. Why not then remold the chest to have that non-functional detailing permanently and leave the actual gimmick of the toy, the "Titan Masters," to something potentially useful? The way Overlord was designed, you can swap heads, and you have two mini figures, so now you can enjoy the Headmaster/Titan Master gimmick with TWO different faces for Overlord. The one you're not using can just chill inside one of the two vehicle mode cockpits. Perfect!

I'd like to say, though, that as a fandom, we're no where near the scorched earth level of spoiled Sonic the Hedgehog fans are. *shudders*

It really wouldn't have been that hard to remove his Headmaster gimmick. They already remolded the helmet, may as well mold a face into it as well. The headmaster port can be kept as an anchor point like was done with Highbrow's cockpit.

Unlike the Super Ginrai mold Overlord already has the Godmaster ports. Adding Godmaster ports to Super Ginrai would have required more extensive retooling than just changing the front of the truck cab. The port would have to cut deeper into cab beyond the doors to hide the little Ginrai body. Then they'd have also come up with a way to cover the port in truck mode which would either require another part (or two if they used in-folding doors on each side of the cab). It's an unnecessary amount of extra work, keeping him a Headmaster made sense. Keeping Overlord a Headmaster when he already has two GM ports and a resculpted helmet and face plates anyway does not.

How do you feel about Prime Masters in Power of the Primes because that's all they are, just decorations? They say PMs unlock powers, but it's really just the same idea as Titan Masters giving figures powers. It's all imagination.

Yeah, like what we got with Blaster. You would think of all the TR leaders, taht would be the one which looked least like in the show and yet it wasnt retooled

The retooling does seem wasted here. My excitement really died down from this morning. I still much preffer the colours on Takara's Overlord, like a lot! But for some reason the face still doesnt screen overlord (at elst not moreso than the Hasbro one) and I really loathe that wasted effort to fake the gimick. Its times like these that I realize there might be more merrit going the Hasbro route since at least they own up to him having a different gimick. Plus those chest flaps really bother me on the Takara version. They look really bad and I dont know why. He never closed them in Masterforce so I dont know what they used to base that design on.

And I always wanted G1 overlord so hasbro making sure that they use the very same colour codes on this one sounds like some lovely dedication that I am now finding hard to pass up.
