Okay, I'm seeing similarities between Trypticon's comic and Shin Godzilla. From the quadrupedal first form to the fact that they call him Shin Trypticon Base, it's kinda hard to not see it.

This is what I meant by 'first form'. Though not a quadruped, it's still pretty similar.

I posted about that the other day. I thought the similarities were pretty obvious but wasn't sure how intentional it was until the translation called him "Shin Trypticon".

Glad to see I'm not the only one to notice it.

I'm actually pretty pleased with Godbomber. He is an alright figure by himself, and I don't really have any sort of tabbing issues on mine. And my Magnus Prime holds onto him perfectly, I have no issues with parts falling off, and I figured out how to get him to stand pretty quickly, so he holds together and stands proud all fine.

I think the set was worth it.

When I wrote the comparison blog between Takra Tomys Unite Warriors Computron and Hasbro’s Combiner Wars Computron it took me about two days to take all the pictures, write up all the subtle differences and overall decide which set was better.

With Legends Trypticon and Titans Return Trypticon? I should be done by the end of the commercial break.

Here are the sticker sheets. The stickers are exactly the same, though I suppose the size of the sheet they come on is different, I guess.
Kinda like getting the exact same meal but on two different types of plate.

The way the Legends version and the Titans Return version have been strapped in their boxes is different in layout I suppose.

Now to Trypticon himself, the differences are…. they are…. um….

The differences are non-existent!

That’s right kiddies – there is absolutely no difference between the two versions – none! All the things you may have previously been lead to believe, such as the teal was darker and the purple richer in the Legends version are not correct. That the paint apps are built in and you don’t have to apply stickers like the Hasbro version – false. The only way I could keep the two from getting mixed up when taking photographs was that I had already applied some of the stickers to the Titans Return version. The same goes for their smaller partners.

In the end I didn’t even bother transforming the Legends version. I packed it straight back in its box and am going to carefully store it for a decade so hopefully I can in the future sell it (and make back the extra $80 I paid getting it shipped from Japan) as relatively MIB. In a day and age where toy producers are conscious that some collectors will shell out big money for multiple versions of an expensive toy for even the slightest difference, I was honestly surprised there was none here. Not even an extra gun like Metroplex or a new hat like Malibu Stacy!

Is one worth getting over the other? Nope. The only thing is that some of the Titans Return versions have the dodgy hips (for an excellent way to fix that see HERE) whereas none of the LG43 versions have had that problem reported as yet. So if the fact you don’t have to worry about this possible defect is worth the extra costs of shipping to you then grab that one. Otherwise, unless you are rolling in cash and want to have both types of box to display, go down to your local toy store and grab the Hasbro one.

Yea crazy huh? Because there is no difference and the Legends version is $80 more, Toy Dojo is allowing customers to cancel the Takara version in order to get the Hasbro version (according to a FB post).

What are you talking about? The packaging is completely different . In all seriousness though, we all pretty much knew this. negative nellies will use this as the one example that is not always better. If they want to hang their hat on this, that's fine, but pretty much every other figure taken from TR to Legends has been improved upon one way or another, or at least made different (improvement can be argued, but "made different" cannot...)

Even then though certain examples spring to mind like Triggerhappy and Perceptor who had pretty much negligible changes, partners aside; 'different' is certainly the word of choice and emphasis for the circumstances we find ourselves in here.

I think TR let us enter a new era in multiple ways. More obscure characters, new inventive approaches to mold re-use, and a situation where - a few notable examples like Blurr and the new Targetmaster molds aside - neither Hasbro or Takara's offerings are outright better than thee other. Most of the time it's simply a different version of the character -- for instance, Hasbro has you set for a toy accurate Hardhead, but go Takara if you want a Headmasters Anime accurate figure. Both are as good as each other and simply provide more choice for different corners of the fandom, which is friggin' amazing

You know what would be a real kicker? If the TakaraTomy version has the Hasbro product code (C1735 I believe) stamped somewhere on it TakaraTomy versions don't have codes stamped on them AFAIK.

Some of what I've seen from Takara has been good, some has been what I consider bad cartoon accuracy: being accurate to where the cartoon design was dumbed-down or just outright screwed up (*cough*Bruticus' stupid Blastoff-colored chestplate*cough*). Like, omitting the silver greebling decals from Scourge? That's fine, that's ditching what were unsightly tacked-on decals on the original toy anyway in favor of painting some of the sculpted detail. Omitting the detail tampos from Perceptor? That, I don't think is fine.

I really wish Roberts would stop writing sad gay robots. Neither are going to stop any time soon.

I wish people would stop complaining.

I also wish that people would stop adapting every real life problem or trend into comic books and movies in general, I like the Transformers and Star Wars franchises so I can run away from IRL stuff not to get more of it.

That makes me a hypocrite and I wish I wasn't one.

I wish I could understand what is so wrong with girls looking and acting cute in comics. I see nothing wrong with the way Sakamoto draws girls in these comics, it is the main reason I look forward to them to be honest.
Just because all the female characters in comics made in america look like guys with tits, doesn't mean that the rest of the world have to follow in suit.

You know what's hilarious? I didn't even give an opinion, but you seem to hate me so much (I still have no idea why ) that you just assumed I was out to get you. The kicker is I DID read your whole comment and I'm basically in agreement with what you said, I'm just not hostile about it. All I did was call you out on your comment about not being able to swim in armor when she was doing it right there in the comic. All the context for that was right in the part I quoted.

That's my one gripe with Godbomber too. the arms could have used some more work, but the legs are greatly done, best part of the figure to me. I love that you can use some CW guys to give him different legs.

The entire process makes me hopeful for Road Caesar. He and Star Saber are characters that I really want to have come out

Is there anywhere that has the Legends comics translated to English in its entirety? As in the ones so far translated on one site. I have a few diff bookmarks of some, but spread all over. THey are so awesome. Bikini girls included.

Just finished watching all of Masterforce a day or so ago again. Even though I dont own Ginrai and god bomber, I have rationalized the size difference in him and Overlord by having Super Ginrai being same height as Overlord and god Ginrai being the larger armoured up version to fight Black Zarak/Devil Z. Kinda what was going on in Masterforce anyway. When a proper Scorponok does come, I imagine it will be larger than god Ginrai though. Some of the hand to hand fights in Masterforce were great, as far as Sunbow G1/Jap G1 go. Although Headmasters may be best, or a couple in Sunbow season 2.

Not very likely, seeing as how Takara likes to make their figures as accurate to the source material as possible and with that Arcee figure being VERY inaccurate (it essentially being Blurr with a couple new parts).
It's the same case with Sky Shadow, Breakaway, Quake, Krok, Roadburn, etc.

I'd be cool seeing what they'd do with it though, and how they'd accommodate the change in their fiction.

It's possible.... did some of the others. However while Arcee was pretty prominent in Headmasters, she was neither a Headmaster nor a Targetmaster... they would have to make it accurate to that story rather than The Rebirth...

Takara's been pulling off a pretty surprising string of homages to The Rebirth recently. The Targetmasters with Hot Rod and Kup; the LG-EX Headmaster set being portrayed in-story as the Nebulans from the USA G1 Cartoon continuity; and even a redeco of MP Hot Rod with Firebolt specifically decoed to look how he looked in Rebirth. If they ported over TR Arcee, I wouldn't be surprised to see her decoed to look like her Rebirth self at all; especially since Takara have already released a Headmasters-accurate Arcee in the Legends line which is even getting a re-issue.
