Why?

Bad tolerances. Parts not fitting well. Breakage and lots of paint chipping, worse than grapple.

I've been seeing similar reports, paint chipping in the sides, armpits, the windshields, the knees, and the arms. also seen some reports of knee breakage too

I transformed Prime about an hour ago. It took me about 45 minutes. It is the best Masterpiece Prime I've ever handled, no 3rd party figure can touch it, period. The cost of the figure is more than covered by the engenering, not just with Prime but with how Roller, the trailer, and the turret all interact. A few quick notes:

Believe it or not the cab was not properly transformed when I took it out of the package, one of the front wheels was stuck in the retracted position.

As I suspected the Ion rifle can collapse for storage, it can slide on a small track on the back of the waist, the rifle got stuck and that was the ONLY scary part of the transformation.

I can see how people are breaking it, all I can say is take your time, it's complex but intuitive.

The instructions surprisingly don't show how the turret base can be used a stand.

I knew I forgot something, the backpack isn't that bad in hand. Prime has always had a beefy torso in the past it was more towards the front, this time it's in the back.

It's all good, but I haven't transformed it back yet, it came apart well let's see how it comes back together.

So complex and maybe needlessly so (did he really need two grills that look only slightly different?) And that leg transformation -- sheesh!! So frustrating that I didn't even fully notice where the wheels went.

The robot-mode is beautiful, but I feel like the transformation process is a bit much, to put it mildly. I don't know how I'll ever transform him into a semi-trailer truck again. (But then again, I thought the same thing about Tracks, Inferno and Grapple the first time.)

This is hands down the best Optimus Prime head-sculpt BTW, but the f-ed up antennas really kill it. Unacceptable for this price.

Haven't explored all the extras yet.

This is hands down the best Optimus Prime head-sculpt BTW, but the f-ed up antennas really kill it. Unacceptable for this price.

Oh and abot that antenna, people have said that heating it would help.

Heating a thin plastic like that may have extra side effects, like making it grow longer.

I still think that for MPM Movie Optimus Prime.

I transformed my MPM Optimus back and forth only once. Never again. It's not fun. And seeing how that MP-44 basically explode and reassemble himself is pretty intimidating for me. I still haven't transformed my MP-36 Megatron yet and I don't think I'll play with my MP-03 Starscreams for a very long while.

As if I no longer have the endurance nor the patience for overly long and fiddly transformations. Especially those who have ultra sensitive and fragile parts.

His head/face is the most important part of the figure for me. Finally a head-sculpt that's 100% accurate, and can pull off the angle that I like so much from the TOEI animated episodes. But the crooked antennas -- just no. They need to make it right.

It's not, I transformed it back and it wasn't bad at all. I did have to use a spudger for one part but Takara was good about working in slots and tabs to help pull things apart. As I expected getting everything to line up along the sides was tricky but comparing it to pics from SDCC or something looks identical. I do agree some of the small panels could've been eliminated and maybe things didn't need to rotate as much.

I would be right here complaining about Optimus along with everyone else, but once again DHL screwed me over. I thought I was being smart, first I signed up for their On Demand Delivery services that tracks your incoming packages. I filled out a general signature release form for all packages so they would just have to drop it off at my door and no worries about nobody being home to sign for it. However the package never showed up under ODD. That's fine, plan B. I tracked the package using the DHL tracking number and filled out another signature release form specifically for this package. Now there's really no excuse to not deliver it. Except, nope, they DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT THE DELIVERY. DHL's tracking cuts off on Tuesday because they decided to hand it off to USPS without even trying to deliver it themselves (they usually make one attempt before handing it off). When they hand the package off they don't tell you they're doing it in the tracking, it just stops updating, and they don't give you a USPS tracking number leaving you completely in the dark. So I get an email from USPS Informed Delivery telling me they attempted to deliver my package, but guess what? They required a signature and ignored the DHL signature release. There was even a special message of "Note: Delivery instructions not available for this package" so they really were ignoring the release. And since I can't pick up my package until next Thursday, well, so much for 3 day shipping.

Man, what a terrible few months it has been for my deliveries between DHL screwing up two of my deliveries and USPS dropping off another at the wrong house.

So I guess I'll know how my Optimus is late next week.
