You bet. Original Japanese name in Japanese kana, but the original English name in the Latin alphabet. It's been somewhat of a staple since Legends started.

So damned awesome. I'm a little miffed about his cost overall, but the extra efforts put into the TakaraTomy version of Devastator just really seal the deal.

The Katakana uses the original Japanese names, i.e. - "Sling", "Firebolt", "Air Rider".

Much like the Legends line.

That's what I figured, but I'd have a very hard time figuring that out for myself. Thanks! :)

This makes me think even more that the recent oddities like TAV Cosmos being named "Adams" in English was a weird oversight on Takara's part.

Well, since the Adventure line is non-G1-based, Takara seems to be treating all of the toys in that line as non-G1 characters, like with how the Insecticons were given bios that described them as minions of Lockdown. So "Adams" might also be considered a non-G1 character in that line.

But then you have cases in the TAV line like Shrapnel. If he's "not G1," they would have called him Sharpnel in English, parallel to calling Cosmos Adams, right?

One would think. It might have been an "oops" on Takara's part with how tricky that part of the name is, thinking that "Shaapuneru" is meant to equate to "Shrapnel". After all, we got a similar spelling goof in "Gregevor" for Greejeeber.

I hopped on the site, but once the shipping was factored in, it wasn't that much more to get it from BBTS, so I'm sticking with my pre-order from them. I've resisted any of the UW versions so far, ( a few pain apps don't make that big of a difference to me) but this seems like a large enough improvement to warrant the purchase.

More Japan sites offering UW 04 Devastator Pre-orders (HLJ and Amiami)

Postby william-james88 » Wed Jul 08, 2015 11:56 am

Motto: "'till All Are One"
It's a big day for Takara's Unite Warriors UW 04 Devastator. We finally get his official stock images showing all the delicious new paint apps and now two more Japan sites are offering up pre-orders.

HLJ has their preorder up for 20,000 Yen, which equals 164$ US.

Amiami also has their preorder up (thanks to a tip from Cobotron and Carrytheone) for 18,730 Yen, which equals 152$ US.

These two join anime-export in Japanese sites offering discounts on Devastator (Anime-export has him for 17500 Yen (146$ US), for those keeping track).

Both of these prices do not include shipping which depends on where Devastator is being sent. Another point that should be taken into account is the exchange rate. While the low Yen was favorable for American buyers, a change in the Yen could means a premium down the line. In certain cases, you cannot cancel a pre-order (at amiami for instance) and while you only have to pay when an item is ready to ship (in this case, December), the future exchange rate is unpredictable. Just something to consider for anyone who hasn't imported from Japan before.

So, cobotron, will you be getting this guy or the hasbro version? I always wanted to get Takara's simply to encourage them to keep doing the good work and I preffer supporting them. I am just happy it wont cost me an arm and a leg to do it (just a few fingers).

Considering the penchant currency has for changing value, prepaying with anime export doesn't seem too crazy today.

I've never chimed in on my opinion on whats going on with all the different Devy's. Honestly, I would have probably been happy with Hasbro's retail version. But I'm at a nice point in my life where I don't have to settle for second best anymore. I considered getting the retail version and the 3P fixes, but the money would be around the same as the Takara, and I don't want someone else to fix all the little issues. I want the experts to fix them, and they did.

I would have gone with anime-export, but truth is I don't have the scratch to throw down at the moment, but by December I can.
Also I've been at this long enough that I can totally tolerate the wait. Especially for a flip down visor! (amongst other things)

AmiAmi price is a bit disappointing since it starts from a base of 27,000JPY with the 8% sales tax while the other sites are going off of 25,000JPY without the tax. Still going to go with AmiAmi since December is an expensive holiday month and they give you a week to make your payment.

In terms of shipping do you think all Japan sites will charge about the same in a shipment of just devastator?

I'm likewise in a position to not settle for second best. I'm thinking of processing an order with Anime Export tonight, but I've never before dealt with them. Are they trustworthy if I am paying upfront like this?
