Randy posted this (elsewhere online) reagrding his thoughts on UW Devastator and how it compares to the oher 2 versions:
I loved the CW version, while the SDCC one is neat I find it a bit too cluttered with the deco and stickers.
The UW version takes everything that was good about the CW one and ramps it up a notch.
The biggest improvements for me are the purple hands and gray face. Though with some lighting the face is so dark you'd almost think it's black.
Figure is a bit tighter than the CW version (the arms aren't so loose), and the new ratchets help a bit. Gun doesn't fall out of his hands as often (or really at all yet) like the two CW versions.
Everything fits together perfectly and the elbows on Scrapper cause no issues in combined mode (in fact they're really hard to even unlock when transforming Scrapper).
The colors are perfect in Devastator mode and I wouldn't change a thing.
As for the individual robots, they're all really nice and besides the joint improvements, they're pretty even with the normal CW version. Guns are obviously a great addition. Looseness on some of the figures carries over to the UW version like it did with the CW versions.
For individual robot mode decos I prefer Scrapper (better torso details and gray face), Scavenger (completed silver paint on chest), Long Haul (he's a bit plain but black arms > purple arms), Hook (I like the silver shins), and Mixmaster (blue detailing on stomach is better then the silver). Bonecrusher on the other hand is extremely plain and boring looking. The CW one is better with the silver detailing, even though him not having it is cartoon accurate.
As far as vehicle modes I'd say they all edge out the CW versions in that regard too. Painted rims are better than not, and the other details are comparable. Long Haul seems to have suffered more than the others with the removal of some black on his vents. Mixmaster is among the ones with the most improvements due to the painting of the rear and the area where the cement comes out in the front. The added purple to Bonecrusher's sides is a plus too.
So while I could definitely see some people being happy with the CW version, as it's still a wondeful toy, every change made to the UW version (save for Bonecrusher's robot mode) is another step in the direction to making this the perfect Devastator. He just looks so awesome standing there. I can't believe how much of an improvement the gray face, purple hands, painted right foot, and purple tread areas look together. So awesome. I find myself staring at him for some time.
So if you can afford this version, it's the best version by far when combined. Your mileage may vary for the individual components when not combined though. Even still each figure has other design improvements that would make most color preferences a moot point.
