Devastator and Computron, however, cannot in good faith be cited as anything but letdowns from Hasbro compared to the Takara product.

Regarding Devastator, as someone who plays with his figures from time to time, Transforming and Posing, taking apart, I can confidently say "let down" has never been a word I would use to describe Devastator. I have had exactly one moment where I have wished for a better elbow arrangement in one of the Constructicons. Been quite Happy.

Would I maybe have liked the add ons from Takara? The Other Guns? Maybe, but then where would I put them on Devy? So not a loss for me. And neither was the Head, as I am extrememyl happy with the Head.

Now, with Compy, I am commiting to the Takara version. I do like morte that they are willing to take this to such new heights and better embrace the play value, such as with Nosecone's drill hand being attachable to Computron's wrist. This is more than just the differences in Devastators. Even so, had I not known of this coming, had Computron gotten a General US release, I would be very Happy with the Hasbro version. Even without the extra modifications, the Hasbro version, what little we've seen, still goes beyond and captures the characters' sparks very well. It may not be as far as Takara went, but its still a full 100%

My hope would have been Tarantulus out of a different mold. If we're getting a second Tarantulus... why not another motorcycle?

Same here - I've been quite happy with Hasbro-stater. The bots are all solid, and combined mode is no worse for wear.

Now, that hasn't stopped me from ALSO acquiring Takara's Devy, but that's another story.

Nosecone looks incredibly awesome! Takara really blew the Hasbro Nosecone away. Even though I wont be buying either Computron, I can appreciate the UW one way much. Hope they stick with Sunbow colours, thats the main reason I am going with UW Bruticus(along with shuttle Blastoff of course). Though some call them flawed and simple, my inner kid nostalgia keeps a chub for the Sunbow colours/looks

Why no Computron? Not attached to him? Bored with combiner wars? Or is your money going elsewhere?
I'm just curious because UW Computron looks like one of the best releases so far IMO.

They all plug together nicely onto Longhaul's back. When I found that out from watching a review, I was stunned and had to find it in the instructions. I'll get a shot of it later.

Fantastic that the drill can be removed and pegged into the hand-socket - my biggest disappointment with Nosecone had been his inability to form a righteous drill fist.

I'm surprised that the differing Hasbro/Takara versions (in general, throughout the history of the brand) are such a source of angst. I mean, the fact that we typically get two different versions of a toy from companies with differing design teams, design philosophies, target demographics (particularly since "adults buying toys" seems to be a bigger trend in Japan) etc. lets adult collectors have their cake and eat it, too. You know, buy US Animated toys, buy some Henkei, get a Unite Menasor and swap in the US Dragstrip etc. Not a lot of franchises get that degree of flexibility, and it's strange to me that one of Transformers's strengths is so often seen as a frustration.

Just so people know, Takara had planned for the added guns. They can be placed in devastator's back and even fit on each of the respective alt modes. Its there that we realize what the specific tabs on Hook's hook is for.





Now onto an interesting topic, this idea about laziness of Hasbro, especially compared to Takara. Now, I get it and I too love Takara and yes they have said on the record that the are dedicating themselves with this line and will go all out to provide the best homage to G1 combiners they can.
Hasbro has also been on record saying that the line was sold with the idea that the molds could be milked (said in nicer terms of course). However it is imperative to realize that were it not for Hasbro's initiative to start this, we would never have these combiners. And these combiners and peg system was designed by Hasbro and it is way better than the latest exclusive combiners Takara came up with on their own:





So yeah, Hasbro is more constrained and might have to make more concessions, but if it wasnt for their initiative, we wouldnt have gotten anything from Takara (maybe aside from MP Devastator, which had been designed and who's design served as the basis for CW Devy).

I'm a little confused, Deadput; one second, you're condemning Hasbro and Takara for not using the same molds everywhere which makes Hasbro look cheap, and the next you're condemning the fans for thinking Hasbro is cheap for doing their jobs to make a profit and insinuating that everyone except a select few hate all the media. So which is it? Are you sick of Hasbro cheaping out on a mere two Combiners out of how many, or are you mad at the fans for thinking that Hasbro could've done better a couple times?

Because Hasbro IS stupid, cheap and money hungry. Their incompetence is legendary. It doesn't help that they don't really care- most of their Transformers profits come from licensed products like birthday cards and lunchboxes.

When it comes to the Transformers Brand, for years Hasbro has made more money off the license than the actual transforming toys they sell. That of course has included the movie license deal.

Of course. Its the same with Marvel. For decades their licensing has made more money than selling comics. And we now know that the Star Wars brand (just the brand) was worth more than all the net income made at the movies before the Disney aquisition. That's just business, the licensing will always yield more net income than the product which is the source of the brand name. The risk and cost is 0$ making the net yield higher than any other business opportunity. Hasbro has commented time and time again that what they aim to do is keep pushing the licensing (for all their brands). Thats where the easiest money can be made.

If ever you cant see the TF logo in the toy isle, look at the kids clothing isle, you will find it there.
